I agree that what sets you apart is your style. I also think that if you are going to ‘copy’ someone’s moves, that you try to think of ways to make them your own stylistically, for example – go into or out of the move differently than the creator. E.g. I go into The Allegra from a basic invert but I’ve seen a lot of people go into it from a Scorpio which is great. But ultimately it is your expression, stage presence and character that make you unique as a dancer.
And yes Veena, your style is unique as well and its beautiful.

Hi Babe,
you should definitely take classes at Bobbi’s Pole Studio in Sydney. I believe we will be hosting many workshops as well around the time of Miss Pole Dance Australia with various instructors, both local and international.
I’ll be in Sydney for the comp as I’ll be featuring in the opening act for MPDA, but I live and teach pole at Bobbi’s in Perth (other side of the country to Sydney) so if you come over my way you can come and take some classes with me or have a private lesson.
Have fun!

MemberJune 21, 2010 at 9:02 am in reply to: Is it slick hands or do I need to improve my grip?Hi Girls,
When I first started learning pole I had incredibly slippery hands and needed to wipe my pole between every single move. And yes your instructor was right, when you are learning a new move your hands sweat more too. Over time your hands will sweat less and you will also develop a much stronger grip which helps compensate for when your hands sweat a little. ‘Dry Hands’ helps a lot too. So much of pole dancing involves being patient until your body becomes stronger so just give it some time because you will be fine in the end.

Hi Girls,
I dance on all sizes of pole regularly (50mm, 45mm and 38mm) and a death-lay on a 38mm pole will be no problem once you get used to it. Plus you can’t beat the 38mm for hand grip, you’ll love it! I originally learned all moves on 38mm poles and have never had a problem with leg grips or thigh grips, its all about what you’re used to.

I have no background whatsoever, but was able to win the Australian championship in under two years. It was a combination of hard work, having excellent teachers, and just plain obsession.
If you work hard you can achieve your dreams!

Hi Girls,
I’m so happy to be coming to the USA to do a feature show at the USPDF comp, some workshops, and to meet all of you fantastic pole dancers! Please feel free to chat to me if you see me around, I love meeting other pole girls.
I’m so pleased to see a few of you already signed up for my workshops. I’ve written a description of each one below. I’m offering two types – one for Advanced girls, and one for all levels. Both will be on spinning poles. You don’t need to be Advanced on spin to take the Advanced Masterclass, just advanced in general – so be confident at inverts.
Thur – 3.30-5pm & Sat – 10-11.30am

Workshop 2 – Pole Seduction (Spinning Pole) – Allegra MPD Aus 2010 (Beg to Adv):
90 minutes. Dance like the pole is your lover as you learn a sexy dance routine, Bobbi’s Pole Studio style, in this deliciously hot class. Also focuses on tips to create a great pole show. There is a freestyle section in the routine where you can show off your favorite moves depending on your level. There will also be a break from learning the routine about half way for me to give you some special attention for that move you’ve been wanting to nail. There is a fantastic selection of workshops from all the instructors, its set to be a huge event. I wish the competitors all the best, and all the girls in the pole community fun times! Can’t wait to meet you guys!

Hi Allegra, do you lash on the shaving cream *just* before going up on the pole? Or put in on a few hours in advance?
Hi Babe, I put it on straight before going on the pole (otherwise it dries out). But just a tiny bit, only enough to make the relevant surfaces slightly tacky – not all over the legs. Just shins, calves and inner thighs.

Hi Girls,
I teach pole dancing and have danced on brass spinning, stationary chrome and stationary stainless steel and I can tell you that shaving cream or gel (doesn’t matter which) works for all. You only need a TINY bit to get you started. Too much shaving gel is slippery the same way too much sweat is slippery. I wash my hands after applying it to my legs, and I also use a hand-antiperspirant called Tite-Grip. One or two sessions are not enough to get used to shaving cream, its like anything you need to use it for a while to adjust. Girls usually use too much to begin with.
I was taught by Felix and I can tell you that she uses shaving cream before every session or performance too.
Good luck girls!

No worries Hoho, glad you had good results. I actually use women’s Gillete shaving gel which has a berry scent so I don’t smell like a dude – its great if you can get it! Keep rocking the pole babe. X
