From the caterpillar position where I’m assuming your starting the set up have you tried going from your knees locked around the pole to straightening your legs so your pushing back and cupping the pole in between your ankles? It’ll give you security still but get you to push back more so you can find your sweet spot. After that you need to tighten up that core and really sit your straddle.

The biggest tips is don’t make steps the way you would on the floor. Most people over exaggerate their steps because they’re in the air and it ruins it. Do a baby lift of your knee not a huge one and when going between flexing and stepping with the feet same thing. Keep it a bit more subtle and it’ll look better 🙂 this is from iguana but you should still see the difference and Jenyne’s the best at this (it’s her signature and she teaches it really well) http://youtu.be/c0FSHifXslk

Doing conditioning exercises for strength and form are definitely going to be helpful for you. Doing online lessons will give you a great start but if it’s within your ability getting out and doing some training at expo, events will help tremendously because sometimes even though we understand the instructor without someone looking at you saying “no angle that knee like this” it can cause some issues as you advanced. Look into doing some Skype lessons with an instructor too. I have students that have moved and do them with me occasionally just to either get new material or make sure something they’ve been working on is correct.

As much as it sucks you gotta pay them all because it will cost more for you to deal with it if they decide to make an issue of it. ASCAP and BMI are the main ones that license all popular music music but you still can’t chance it by ignoring 1 or all 3 for that matter.

Awe thanks for posting this and I will keep everyone updated on when we go on and how it goes. I've been fighting for this for a few years so I'm still a little in shock that they finally let me do this!!! I'll be bringing a ridiculous amount of literature on pole with me to get out to people too so hopefully this will be a huge education.
Oh and as for why skate boarding is not there this that is actually partly due to the issue with pole not be allowed in in the past few years. Myself and the head of the skateboarding committee and organizer of the skateboarding exhibition (and very dear friend) created the initial pole committee and made a proposal a worked for months a few years ago with the Arnold to get pole in. Well after months of planning they decided they didn't wanna do it anymore and pulled us out. My friend was very upset with how we were turned away because he believed in me and pole as a community and with that and some other political issues he completely pulled skateboarding out. It makes this a little bittersweet that they finally listened to us but Tedd and the skateboarders wont be there since they too were really pulling for us!

Well the easy answer for me would be no! Trying to "force" someone to move a certain way doesn’t work because it ultimately is trying to make someone "feel" the movements the way you do and each woman/man has a different approach to sexy/sensual movement. I’ve seen dancer that are way more sexy if they work with their natural athleticism and move faster and some are better if they dance slower. Also, the most importent element in how we move is feel and music. For me, I usually find I feel more sensual dancing to music thats not necessarily "happy" sexy but kinda a more sad song and immediately my movements become slower and slinkier. You can teach someone transitions and floor work and sexier movements but you can’t force the way they interpret them. It’s actually a pet peeve of mine when I see instructors try to teach students to be sexy/sensual in only one kind of way because what is sexy/sensual is in the eye of the beholder and the performer. I believe it’s important to encourage sensual dancing but with the explanation that the moves are yours to interpret and mold into your own. For me seeing a class of people learn all the same moves and then run with them and turn them into something completely their own and be all kinds of different sexy is a beautiful thing! That’s what makes pole so great, we can each do the exact same movements and yet the way we interpret them can be completely different and individual https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

MemberAugust 11, 2010 at 8:17 pm in reply to: Wht do you say when someone says spinning pole is "cheating"I have danced in clubs on both spinning and static and use/teach on both and am very comfortable on both. Spinning is harder, the amount of control you need with your body when centrifugal force is pulling you away is much harder to work with. I believe it’s best and necessary to learn first on a static pole because it allows you to build muscle and control over manipulating momentum on your own first. But in the end spinning is harder, I would never allow a student to get on before they’ve developed some upper body/ab strength and enough shoulder flexibility first. People like that don’t know any better, it’s not worth the arguement. The only time I’d say something is if someone was teaching an inexperienced beginner to work on spinning day 1 when they don’t have any strength/curvier lady…..thats just dangerous and irresponsible! Other than that leaver her to be ignorant and go rock your spinny pole with your hot self https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif
