Hey girly, you shouldn’t be experiencing that much pinching. Yes some serious inner thigh pain for a little while but your arms should be holding more of the weight. What Chem said about doing a side V while starting your twist is what should be done to avoid that. Get in your gemini and press the upper part of your inside thigh against the pole to stablize while you move your hands into position and then open out into V position and twist around locking your thighs at the end and lettin your hips sink into the move. Veena’s vid on this is really good but keep workin on it!

Empyrean and Charley are both right on all there advice! I will also stress to make sure you set out a clear business plan and really think about the type of clientelle your trying to attract. Also, as Charley discussed with being advanced as an instructor. You should have a good foundation to start with and definately know the proper way to execute moves and modify them if needed. Knowing a variety of moves is important and know the "categories" they fit into really helps when your trying to eveluate where a persons at physically and what the next progression should be. For instance you’d never have someone go from learning a star to a marley in the same night…it’s not a natural strength progression and you need to develop someone’s strength and hold better before you’d make a leap like that. I don’t think an instructor needs to know every move there is out there to teach but you should understand all the types of moves there are to know how to safely progress someone. Make sure you sit down and come up with a really solid lesson plan and how you want to execute it (i.e. strength/flexibility training).

I am actually a former dancer turned instructor and it’s always interesting to me people’s reaction when they know that. For the most part it’s always excited my students to hear it, they feel like their learning from someone who really knows their stuff. However, when I taught Latin, Belly Dance and Hip Hop before I ever started teaching pole I always kept it quite because I was working in a "normal" studio and it’s not considering a legit form of dance….or it wasn’t at the time. My only problem now is people assume I don’t have a background other than having been a former stripper when in realty I’ve been a dancer since I could walk! We’re in a weird place in this community because it’s still growing and this country is so darned prude ugh!!! I think as time goes on people will assume less that when you say your a pole dancer that means your a stripper. I have no problem with stripping and have taught dancers, dancing nude or semi nude can be so empowering and I always felt so in touch with my body when I was on stage. What I have a problem with and always have is everything else that goes along with it; i.e. men thinking your an object they can treat however they can, the drug abuse you see girls doing and even prostitution (happens in big clubs too believe me). For me that’s why I stopped….I couldn’t take watching that crap go on around me anymore. Take that out of it and there’s not a darn thing wrong with a woman dancing with minimal to no clothing on and owning her body and sexuality. The real problem is people are still very threatened by that which is so sad.
