Awww happy pole anniversary Stacey!! you’ve come such a long way, you’re one of the sweetest members & i’m so glad to have met you here! (been missing you in chat lately though)! I hope to get to meet you in person sometime. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif
Here’s to many many more pole anniversaries to come!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif -
Woohooo awesome!!! you look so good in that pose (no handed cupid)!! i can’t do that without using my hand for the life of me! great job girl!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/alien.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_dwarf.gif

I too learned this move by practicing it from the ground first. However i found it easier to get into position the way that chemgoddess described, rather than from a handstand. And the pain sure is different than that from a plank! Once i was ok with the positioning & got resistant to the pain, it took me forever to be able to get the flipping over part from gemini (like foxy rei said, that was the trickiest part!). I thought that it would’ve been easier from inverted thigh hold, but i still can’t do it that way (maybe i should start trying that again, lol). https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
One last thing i want to say is that it seems like lately many people have been thinking that this should be an easier move than what it really is (not you audball, just saying in general https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif ). For example i’ve heard someone say that they think it’s crazy they can do the butterfly or ckr or something but not the superman, when in fact, superman for MOST people is a lot more difficult than many other moves (of course everyone is different). I personally don’t think it’s ever too early to practice it from the ground. I’m just saying that for the more advanced ways of getting into it, no one should feel like they "should have been able to do it by now" or that there’s something wrong with them if they can’t do it yet.. it’s NOT easy!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/alien.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/bom.gif

yeah no need to be embarrassed! i think it sounds like you’re talking about the bodywave- but i agree it would help more if you gave us a specific time point in the video! also, i’m pretty sure Veena has most of her dance moves in her lessons, so that would be a great way to learn them too https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Glitter i truly admire your courage for coming out & posting about something that embarrasses you, in order to help & possibly save others. That’s what i call a real heroic character. Thank you so much for being the great wonderful person you are.. you really have nothing to be embarrassed about. I’m so sorry for your loss & the horrific situation you & your family must be going through. We love you girl.

omg how did i miss this thread??! Sissy you’re gonna do great! It’s natural that you may have lost some of your technique while you were in your cast, but thank goodness for muscle memory, you’ll have it back way before the competition! But honestly though, I saw what you could do while you were still IN the cast, & hadn’t poled in over 2 weeks & it still looked like you had never been off the pole anyway!!!! Just focus on practicing the tricks you plan on using for your routine. I also think it’s normal to have last minute self-doubts, but you gotta remember how awesome you are!! and i agree about the having fun part- focusing on having fun instead of on winning will make you less nervous & more confident, and this will show through in your dancing!
Good luck girl i’ll be cheering for you from all the way across the atlantic!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif -
I’m sure that if you call Xpole they’ll have a solution for you. I know that Foxy_Rei had the same issue, & she bought an extra extension that she used in place of one of the main poles in order to make the pole shorter. I’m pretty sure that the new poles (Xpert included) have the same extensions as the older poles did, so this should work. No need to buy the older style pole (you’d probably only be able to buy it used now anyway)!!

that’s so great! i’m so excited for you!! good luck & let us know how your first class goes!! xx

I definitely think that the split grip aysha is the most advanced grip for this move! Of course, everyone is different, & i know that Sissybuns did this before the other grip ayshas, but typically forearm & elbow grips are more stable, safer, & easier.. it’s just a matter of "getting" the technique for these grips, so that you can work on the aysha with them. Good luck either way! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

WOW. I agree with everyone that this just isn’t right. I understand that i’ve only heard one side of the story, but the fact that the USPDF/NYPD girls didn’t reply to Lian’s emails/calls & that there was no such restriction in the competitors’ contracts says a lot. And maybe there’s something i’m missing, but like Lian said, i really don’t see how the workshops at Body&Pole would affect USPDF in a negative way at all.
I too have been disappointed by them in the past– They wanted to charge me $250/hour for a business/teaching consultation, which i think is ridiculously expensive, especially considering that they knew i live in another country (so no risk of competition with them), where this type of business doesn’t even exist yet (so you’d think they’d be more willing to help spread pole dance in places it doesn’t exist yet!). But what they’re doing now is just down right unprofessional. I’m so sorry for everyone involved & everything Lian has to go through. -
i’m late in responding to this! just watched one of your vids last night & you’re fantastic! it’s a shame that you won’t be sharing your talent of this beautiful art with your peers, but i bet you’ll have a better opportunity to do so in the near future!.. things just tend to work out that way sometimes- it’ll happen at the right time https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif
(but like friekiel said, I too would just show up at the audition just for the heck of it!). -
If all else fails, you could always try to incorporate "cute/sexy wiping of the pole" into your dance. But don’t worry- there’s more hope for the future– https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif I’ve found that the more experienced i got with poling, the less the sweatiness affected my poling abilities. I often still have to wipe the pole in the middle of a dance, but not nearly as much as my early months!

MemberFebruary 7, 2010 at 7:39 pm in reply to: Floorwork Help need cute knee pad suggestion!!I sometimes wear 2 pairs of legwarmers, so that i can pull the bottom ones over the knee, and the top layer can be scrunchy towards the bottom ( i think it looks cuter that way). Or you can get the extra long over the knee legwarmers, or, like Hunny said, over the knee socks. Legwarmers tend to be thicker & softer than socks though.
Over the knee boots might also work, if you’re able to slide around in them. And you can even put legwarmers around your knees under the boots (for extra padding), & they won’t show. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gifAlso, don’t forget that floorwork is NOT easy! Try putting as less weight on your knees/legs as possible, while trying to rely mostly on your arms to support your weight. Also, whenever possible, avoid sitting directly on your knee-cap.. sometimes it’s possible to perform a move while using the spot right under your knee cap instead. Good luck! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_dwarf.gif
