We use a lot of ice on our ortho ward. Use ice for any injury to help take down swelling and relieve pain. Use heat for any muscular ache/ before/ after stretching. We were also taught that you can use ice and heat together 5 mins with one, then 5 mins with the other exchanged for 20 mins bbut I have never really done this.
Basically you don’t want to be putting heat on anything that has he potential to become inflamed (which is what happens post injury) as it will increase the blood flow and increase the inflammation.
When you apply ice, for it to be effective leave it on for a minimum of 20 mins. Also never place it directly onto the skin, always put a layer such as a paper towel in first or you risk ice burns. -
thanks guys, thats exactly what I mean, I don’t want to use a grip aid all the time as I don’t have problems with anything else, it would just be for those days where my hands are slippery. I’m looking forward to the winter so my hands don’t sweat so much, how sad is that??
Never heard of shaving cream being used, but I’ve tried using a little hairspray on my hands before, and it worked well apart from that it didn’t get rid of the sweaty part, it just made my hands temporarily more sticky. Mighty grip says it also helps with sweat, which was why I was thinking of trying that one. RIght i’m off to order some! let me know if anyone wants a review! lol -
your skin will hurt the first few times you try it, and you may get some bruises too but these will wear off quite quickly as your skin gets used to it.
What I found teaching my friends the x knee release is that at first they were missing the grip with their bent knee. I taught them to lean backwards a bit until the pole is wedged behind your knee as this is where a good proportion of the grip comes from, not just your thighs. It often helps to hold onto that bent foot too to start with as it encourages you to get that grip with your knee by pulling it in tighter.
Hope this makes sense! good luck! -
yay! I managed this move last night (once i’d given my poor shoulder a couple of days to calm down lol) andposted a vid….. think it might be my new favourite move (as every new one is!), so much fun! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

safety wise I guess you should be able to control the movement rather than just throwing yourself over, so I would maybe see if you can do a super invert and hold it for 10 secs as a marker maybe? I think you’ve def gotta be able to hold a shoulder mount in various positions for a length of time? ah sod it, have a go anyway! just put some cushions down! lol

yes please hannah! for giggles seeing as I got it all wrong! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

ohmygod my shoulder is so sore today girls! roxy I am definitely getting the old shouldermount learner feeling again! owwwww
-
yeah thats the one! I can already see from your vid V where i’m going wrong, I was taking my legs to the wrong side of the pole! Thanks!

I use this sometimes with some of our orthopaedic patients who aren’t quite getting the range of movement they should be, and it usually works really well and you don’t even have to do a particularly strong muscle contraction. The only time it doesn’t work is if the person is very ‘guarded’ and doesn’t let the muscle relax afterwards, or is compensating by contracting other muscles instead. Just be aware that it is possible to overstretch using this method if you aren’t careful.

if you can’t find a place that does lessons, buy some and learn yourself! We don’t have anyone that does them in the island I live on, so I bought some and am learning at the mo, and they aren’t too expensive either! Plus there is a really good french book on how to do all the move / drops https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

wierd how we all find different thing easy/ hard!

Knee hold – being able to hold it for more than 2 secs
iguana mount – I can do it, but not hold it for long
Superman from side V

Handspring
Elbow grips as it usually gives me a compressed nerveEasy: https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Hi Porscha
Really sorry to hear thats happened to you, thats rubbish! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif have you had it x-rayed or scanned to confirm it? They could prob do a small op to move it if it was really bad? For the past couple of years I’ve had on and off horrible stomach pains (the doc was wondering if I had a twisted bowel but it was never confirmed) but only at night, and always about the same time. It seemed to coincide with periods of stress, but I did notice that if I went on a pole that evening it would be so much worse, esp if I was doing inverts as you have to use your core muscles so much. I think something i’d eaten / stress was affecting it, and then the added pole-ing and muscle contraction of my abs on top of it made the spasms much worse afterwards. When mine happen I take buscopan (a muscle relaxant), co-codamol and omeprazole that the doc has precribed me, and it really helps. Touchwood I haven’t had an episode of it for about 3 mths now, but I really sympathise with you and hope it gets sorted really soon. Go back to your doc and demand they do something to sort it!! -
thanks! that one was taken in the Swiss alps, after 4 days of hiking for my queens scout award. I was so knackered I couldn’t physically manage anything more than the wrist seat…. also didn’t wanna risk falling off as there was a cloudy chasm to my left! This was the first time the guys from my network group (scouts over 18) realised I pole-danced…. they were a bit bemused and I’ve never quite lived it down, but they have since all come and had a lesson! lol it was very entertaining. I should post some pics here really! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
