I have my dominant hand on the bottom for the cartwheel mount, and on the top for the TG. I think it comes down to personal preference. Why no try it both ways and see which you find easier? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I find it a wee bit dodgy that the study was just ‘terminated’, surely a proper scienitific study can’t do that?? Wouldn’t they need to show the long term results rather than just short term? I’m always tentative on seemingly easy fixes! If it works thats great, has anyone here used it and can give us a review??

There is a lot of debate about passive stretching and whether it can hinder increasing flexibility. I think the thought is that if a stretch is pushed too far that the body an go into overdrive and try to repair itself by laying down calcium in the stretched tissue. Also I guess if you stretch too far and cause microtrauma to your muscle tissue, scar tissue could be laid down to repair it and scar tissue is inflexible. You should be ok so long as you take it slowly and don’t try to push too far. A stretch may cause a bit of discomfort but it shouldn’t be painful.

It might be that if you wear heels all the time you tendoachillees has shortened a bit. Wear flat shoes for a while, it may be uncomfortable but it would be better in the long run to stretch them out now or you may get problems later on. I work with loads of kids who come in with flat feet and have pain, and a lot of them walk up on their toes as it creates them a medial arch (they’re compensating for the lack of stability in their flat feet by doing so). When you wear heels it similarly creates an arch on the inside border of your foot, it may be that you are overusing the muscles that support the arch during the day while doing this and at night they go into spasm due to overuse. I would try and wear flat shoes for at least a portion of the day, or regularly take your heels off and have a walk barefoot to stretch. Or when you take your heels off put them in warm water and then stretch them, should help with the cramps, but this is only what i’d try!

I’d say crossed ankle release, crossed knee release (so long as you lower yourself and don’t drop into that position works your abs eccentrically), shouldermount, and chopper if you curl up into it rather than jump up into it. Also i’d say handsprings/ cartwheel mounts are good for core stability when holding the handspring, but they’d more work your obliques (muscles to the side of your tummy – sculpting your waist) rather than pure abs. Also the chair spin, as you have to keep your knees up when spinning, toning your hip flexors, and also the teddy is a pretty hardcore abs worker!!
Hope this helps! -
I have learnt most moves only on one side, as I have 2 plates in my left arm and one of them sticks out as a lump by my wrist and clashes agaisnt the pole (poor surgery!) on most spins, and its purely too weak to sustain any inverted moves. I have to say I now have a muscle imbalance, my right arm is bigger than my left, and although its (hopefully!) not noticible unless I point it out, I am incredibly paranoid about it.
I would advocate if at all possible doing moves on both sides as you can build up an imbalance seriously quickly. Muscle imbalances can set off all sorts of associated problems in other more proximal joints so I know its hypocritical but i’d definitely try to learn things on both sides! -
thats awesome, thanks! I’ve found a french silks manual that i’ve ordered, but those ones you’ve found look good so I might have a look at those too. I’ve just subscribed to you on youtube! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
Don’t worry, I plan to be super careful, I’ve done a bit of trapeze before, and I used to do acrobatics and gymnastics and have had lots of injuries in the past so I’m def plan on being more careful than I used to be! Plus I think Gsylass is going to learn with me so i’ll have a spotter.
If its any help to you i’ve also found silkworms, its a glossary of silks moves (a bit like wikipole) which looks like it could be handy. I am SO looking forward to learning this! x -

I added Deb Riley on facebook and today she posted a pic of her on an r-pole, base and all. I have to say it looks fab and i’m v interested in more info if anyone has any!
The base is round and looks like a thin spongey mat in 4 sections (a bit like a pie-chart).
She is doing a handspring on it, and there is no bend on it in the photo like there was in some of the previous ones i’ve seen. Wish they would give some more info on the website!! -

WHen I told mine it went something like this….. (raises eyebrows) ‘you’re gonna get a reputation!’ Then as soon as he saw it he absolutely had to have a spin and now respects it for the great fitness it is.
My boyfriend…. ‘F*** yeah! My girlfriends getting a pole!’ he’s lost interest now hes realised that its all about the fitness and not about him lol.
My step-dad….. ‘I want a go’ https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif because he’s seen men doing chinese pole (at least thats what he says!)
Mum was totally cool with it and has come and had a go, and strangely the best reception i’ve had is from mums friends, who are all really interested and wanting a go too. Actually thinking about it (touchwood) thus far I haven’t had a negative reaction from anybody https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

I’ve caught mine on that tiny hole in the x-pole (where you tighten them with the rods). Only once though, and it was only because I was being silly and mucking around. I wouldn’t recommend having a bellybutton bar in for any exercise, as they can catch on clothing, equipment, everything! That said I still love my sparkly bellybutton after 8 years! I woudn’t let pole-ing get in the way of having it done if its something you really want. At the end of the day once its healed you can take it out if you want/need to?

Love it!! all the time! I drive my poor boyfriend nuts lol. Trees, playground poles, road signs, anything! My fav one is a pic thats in my profile (it wouldn’t let me attach it to the thread) where I found a random sign up one of the mountains in the swiss alps we climbed while I was on my queens scout expedition…. there weren’t many people around to see that tho!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

oh man, I used to know the whole dance to thriller, my mum used to teach disco dancing and taught me it all by the time I was 10!! Wonder if I could remember it…. or how to put it onto the pole?? I could get mum in on it too lol!!
On second thoughts can I have ‘they don’t really care about us’? pretty please! -
I’m on FB too! mailto:annekajurkiewicz@hotmail.com https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif

Yes!! I noticed the same thing a few months ago!!! I put bio-oil on them and they only seemed to last a few days and weren’t noticeable as i’m a bit pasty (being a redhead!). The only thing I could pin it to was that maybe the pole was stretching my skin in a way it isn’t used to? Mine seem to have disappeared now though, so maybe my skin got used to it?? Stretch marks are just scar tissue, so theoretically I guess once its scarred and remodelled and faded they might not recur? I dunno, but you def aren’t alone!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif
