I have a simple vine and 3 flowers up my left side. I also drew this myself, so please don’t copy it! Its to symbolise my 3 years at university where I became the person I am now. Before I went away to uni I was so shy, and i blossomed (hence the 3 flowers) into a confident person. For some reason it won’t let me upload it to here so i’ve put it on my pictures! I also have a tribal butterfly on my lower back but it doesn’t really mean anything!
I love the fact that everyones tats are so sentimental! x -
Rouge is right, you should go get that checked out.
Stay off your pole until you know what it is! Normal muscle ache from overuse doesn’t usually manifest as shooting pain. Acute sharp pain may be from a muscle tear if its in a specific spot. I would go for an x-ray, to rule out a stress or compression fracture. Right in the centre of your radius and ulna, you have a band of connective tissue that connects the two called your interosseous membrane, it may be that if you’ve been doing a lot of arm weightbearing exercises that you’ve strained it.

Hi caramel!
I have nerve damage in my left arm also, the result of an op to pin & plate it after a bad break. I often get a lot of pain in it, it knocks my arm out for about 5 days at a time and is agony, so I really feel for you! My main tactic is to avoid things I know aggravate it (elbow grips are a no no for me!), so if it was rubbing it that aggravated it, avoid doing that!
There isn’t a lot you can do to speed up the ‘healing’, and you can’t get rid of nerve damage. I deal with mine by treating the pain symptoms. I use ice as mine often swells, use gentle massage on the sore area and take painkillers.
Once its ‘healed’ I would do some gentle massage (featherlight touch) on it each day to try to desensitise it. You can use traction for nerve compression, but yours doesn’t sound joint related. Sometimes TENs machines can be used to help the pain and you can now get them in some chemists, however they are expensive and tend to be used for chronic (long term) nerve pain.
Hope it feels better soon! x -
ha ha awesome! Why’d you give up?? I’m petrified of getting man shoulders with the pole-ing too lol https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif apologies…. I’ve gone off on a tangent!

This thread id fab!
I’m 22, been poleing for 1 yr. I’m 5’6 and about 52kgs. I was told aged 6 by my dance teacher that I wasn’t graceful enough to be a ballerina https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif so went and did gymnastics / trampolining / diving so I could throw myself round instead of being graceful! All of these sports ceased due to my accident-proneness (dislocated knee, torn ACL, broken nose, broken arm etc etc), now I surf lots, pole lots and play rugby (thats a recent one…. I’m waiting for my next injury! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif )
Not sure why I decided to learn to pole…. I think it was a bit of a rebellion thing, my dad thought I was mental lol. Now my whole family (including dad and brothers) play on my poles and they are so competitive its hillarious! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif -
Hiya! Forearm pain could be any number of things. If you totally relax your forearm, and then bend your wrist forwards and backwards using your OTHER hand, does it still hurt? does it hurt if you turn your forearm from palm up to palm down and vice versa? Is it sharp and on certain movements? Or constant and achy? Does the pain run the whole length of your arm or is it just concentrated in a specific area? If you squeeze a tennis ball with your wrist straight does it hurt then? If you give some more specific details about it, it might give us more of an idea of what might help https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_question.gif
That vid veena posted is excellent for strengthening the wrist flexors and extensors, another important group to strengthen especially when beginning poleing is the pronators and supinators (which turn your hand from palm up to palm down) and are used a lot when doing spins. You can find these exercises on the net. x -
Aww bless you, poor thing, that sounds rubbish! I hope it clears up soon! It does sound like it could be TMJ, but see your doc to rule out other things like dislocation. I would see your doc to get some painkillers, if you have pain or injury around a joint the muscles around it often go into spasm to protect it, if you can get rid of the pain it might facilitate the relaxation.
A heat pack over the joint may also help relax it, plus gentle massage. Calcium plays a big part in muscle fibre contraction, it causes the muscle fibres to contract not relax. Its sometimes used in ICU to increase the contractility of cardiac muscle… I would ask your doc before taking any calcium rich things as it could theoretically have the opposite effect to relaxing the muscle?
Hope you feel better soon x -
When strengthening your shoulders you want to strengthen your rotator cuff muscles (supraspinatus etc) as well as the larger muscles you use for lifting (i.e. deltoid, biceps etc). When doing spins on a pole the torsion works your rotator cuff muscles to stabilise your whole shoulder girdle so these are important to strengthen too. You can find various R-C exercises if you type it into google, however to relate them to poleing, practicing various spins is also good for strengthening them. Its very easy to get fixed on strengthening the larger muscle groups as these are easier to achieve, however it is the smaller groups that will give you more control over a movement.
Also don’t forget to strengthen your upper traps, as these help support the top of your back, shoulder and neck.
Make sure when you do any strengthening (i.e.lifing yourself) exercise on your pole, that you control it on the way up and the way down, most injuries in sport occur on this ‘down’ phase where people lose control.
Hope this makes sense! -
This girl is amazingly strong, she totally rocks. I saw this vid a while ago, thought it looked like a fun thing to try until I nearly faceplanted! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif I love the twisted grip to brass onkey she does too, its such a pretty move!
