I’m 40, i’ll be 41 in a few months. I started poling 2 1/2 years ago. I do feel like my learning curve is a little slower because of my age & my muscles are a little more stubborn than they were 20 yrs ago. I dont think I am a kickass poler…yet. But I am working towards it. I’m determined to get there.

There are some kickass 40+ polers here, who I admire & who keep me inspired that I CAN do this. You can do it too. Poling requires time, patience & preserverance. It is a journey…one that is so worth taking to get to the end goal 🙂

Keep practicing, keep at it. It does get better.

Back bends, cobra pose & plow exercise (will also strengthen your core for shouldermounts)

I was just wondering the EXACT same thing and was browsing pole clothes this morning trying figure it out. In my mind, a class performance or personal performance for a group of family or friends would just warrant maybe a little nicer pole fitness top and bottom than the norm than you wear to class or practice in at home. Of course a competition or public performance, I think would warrant something a little snazzier wardrobe wise. That's my two cents. I cringe at the cost of even the simpliest pole wear. I wish it wasn't so expensive cause I want it ALL! lol

What do I do on my rest days? Humm it really depends on my mood and/or how busy or non busy my week is. If I'm not doing anything that week, I'll stretch about 20-30 mins, along with doing some core & strength exercises– reps of sit ups, plow sit ups, bicycle sit ups, plank holds, push ups, pull ups, wrist, hand and forearm conditioning exercises and I lazily work on my splits stretching (guess I should get serious about it if I ever want to actually get the splits. sigh). And every couple of weeks, I'll throw in some floorwork, sexy flow, & dance practice.

Here's what my schedule looks like on a typical week:

Saturday Level 3/4 Pole class at studio

    Sun  Rest Day

Mon & Tues ABOVE mentioned stretch and conditioning exercises

Wens ABOVE mentioned stretch and conditioning exercises + I "try" to practice pole at home

Thrus ABOVE mentioned stretch and conditioning exercises

Fri ABOVE mentioned stretch and conditioning exercises

Ouch is right…but you will get it VERY soon, just keep practicing 🙂 It took me about a month to nail those two moves consistently. You CAN do it.

DO NOT get a carmen electra pole. It was my first pole & it was horrible even screwed into the ceiling it still would come a loose & it cut up my hands something awful everytime i used it. I had a peekaboo too. That is another rip off pole.

Save for an xpole or lil mynx its worth it in the end.

Dirdy Birdy for sure I have been enthralled with her for the last few years..

I've recently become entranced with Charlee Wager. She's definitely one to watch as an up and comer 🙂

50 mm xpert chrome. I got it with the thought that most venues (dance clubs etc) that have poles they are usually 99% of the time 50mm, so that's why I chose the biggest size. For me it's kinda like the whole if you know how to drive stick shift you can drive any car. I figured if I learned on the biggest pole, I can pole on ANY pole. It has proved to be true but it is tough having a 50 at home but learning on a 45 mm at the  studio I go to. But I honestly do like poling on the 45 mm better its a little easier than poling on the 50 mm for me. When I get a house, I plan on getting a 45 mm TG xpert but I will put both the 50 mm chrome and 45 mm TG up and use both.

  • Good question. I tell people I pole dance for fitness…I haven't yet called myself a pole dancer. Now that I am getting into advanced moves in my head, I am starting to think of myself as a pole dancer. But I think it will be awhile until I just proclaim that as a title for myself until I get more advanced moves nailed down and my flow, fluidity and grace is on point. Until that time comes, I will continue to tell people I pole dance for fitness 🙂

    Hello welcome to poling!

I started as a fan of the art…for about 12 years I just admired it from afar wishing I could learn but back then there were no pole classes available like there are now. The only people I knew who knew how to pole dance were my friends who were exotic dancers…so yeah, I spent alot of time hanging out at strip clubs lol

Then a lil miracle happened, pole became the new fitness craze and I could finally learn! My journey started 2 1/2 years ago when I tried a trial pole class. Immediately at the end of the class, I was obsessed with pole and signed up for classes!

Of course the first year was the hardest…I poled on and off that first year often having a love hate relationship with my pole at home. I almost gave up on pole several times during the first year but I am happy that I stuck with it. The first year was full of building strength, confidence and learning to trust my body.

Year 2 was a little better and the year of discovery– about myself as a person, about what my body was capable of and my limitations in pole and pushing beyond that to become a better poler.

Now heading into year 3 the up and down days are back (because I am now learning advanced moves that again take lots of patience and MORE strength than ever before) and developing flow, grace, fluidity, dance & floorwork are my focus as I work on becoming the best overall poler I can be.

Welcome to the wonderful journey of poling, hang on, because it's a wild ride but sooooo worth it!
