Hi I take pole lessons at a studio and also am signed up for SV lessons! I think you would highly benefit from getting the SV lessons, they are pretty awesome and the lessons go in order, so you gain strength as you learn which is AWESOME. And she's all about safety and correct arm, hand & leg placement when executing moves, which is important especially as someone new to pole.
Also on most moves, Veena shows you 2-3 ways to get into it, which is pretty helpful (at the studio I go to they dont even do this!) especially when you are struggling with a move. It is so worth the $20 a month!

Yep theres alot of nudity in our house but usually happens mostly before and after bathing times. My 5 year old daughter still bathes with me regularily and my 8 yr old son bathes with dad. My kids sometimes still bath together but it's becoming less and less as they get older.
On super hot days I won't lie, I walk around topless most of the day. Most of the day, we are all running around the house in our underwear and we sleep usually just in our undies, no one wears pjs in this house, even in the winter. We figure our kids will let us know when they are not comfortable with nudity in front of them. My 8 yr old son is just starting to kind of be modest when he's nude, so I think the regularily covering up will be coming soon. I know my eldest hit that age around 9, so we started covering up around him more at that point.
My mom was always nude & undressing in front of me when I was growing up even when I was a teen and it didn't bother me at all, it was natural to me. And she STILL does this. But the one thing that was a plus about all the nudity growing up, was I have no problem being nude myself in front of strangers (gym, spa, topless beaches, nude sunbathing etc) in fact I love being nude, wish I could be nude all the time, it would make things so much more simpler lol.
And my both my kids play on my pole. My son has more of a chinese pole style and I'd love to find an LA studio that teaches it to kids, so he can expand with it. He's got amazing strength. My daughter just mimicks what I do, which is cute. But if she shows an interest in it as she gets older, I will encourage her to pole for fitness and fun appropriate for her age level ofcourse, I see nothing wrong with it.

I know what you mean, I get like that too. Just take your time, try to relax when attempting to execute it & take baby steps w/it & youll get it.

I mirror what The other Ladies have said…veenas conditioning & strength exercises do make a difference. Also time…some moves take longer for some to Get than others. My inverted v also took me months to Get & i still have trouble getting into It consistently. We All Get Things @ different paces & thats ok…Just be patient w/yourself & Your body, you WILL Get It.

It Will take a few weeks to gain strength to start doing beginning spins. Inverts you shouldnt rush into…it wasnt until i was poling 3 months before my instructor introduced Us to The basic invert. Do you have veenas lessons The go In order & you build strength as you learn. I highly recommend veenas lessons

I'm in southern cali too. Are you back in the LA area yet? We should have a pole jam soon!

MemberJuly 17, 2012 at 6:54 pm in reply to: Attempting to get my mom to pole (seeking help from mature polers/very new polers)I concur with what the other ladies said…show her some vids of some of the over 40 women here who pole and are doing smashing at it. Sure it takes me a little longer to get things because I am a little older, my bones and muscles are a little stiffer and tighter than they were when I was in my 20s, so I have to work a little harder at it but I AM doing it and I LOVE it more than anything! And with hard work and perserverence SHE CAN DO IT TOO! Is she even open to you showing her a couple of moves?
Maybe have her over for dinner (and a glass of wine lol), then show her how fun and step by step the SV lessons are and maybe do a few of the beginner moves together and then see where it goes from there…
Good luck let us know how it goes!

Please post your video im sure its not bad we are all super critical of ourselves. All The gals here are very supportive & kind. And be kind to yourself smoothness, fluidity, Grace etc while poling comes w/time & practice:)

Congrats thats a HUGE accomplishment!
After The last 2 weeks In Class not even Being able to even lift my feet off The ground when attempting shouldermount, In Class today i was able to do The beginnings of shouldermount-pulling my knees up to my Chest, holding It for a few seconds & bringing my legs back down controlled. This was a BIG step for me. AND i did It not once but 3x. I was so stoked. Then of course i got home & tried & no go. Oh well, i enjoyed my brief moment of glory anyway…

I am an over 40 poler & i am The same. It took me several months before i could invert w/out hesitation &/or fear. It takes me a Lil longer to learn moves, particularily Ones that require inverts but eventually i always end up doing It. It Just takes me time to build up The courage. Take Your time be patient w/yourself & listen to Your body. When you are ready you Will do It.
