  • I saw it. I am a big dance nut—did various forms of dance, drill team, dance squad/team and cheer growing up and I've been watching ABDC since season 1 and have even seen several of the crews that have won on that show perform live at disneyland. I was happy that polers were on the show and had made it that far because that really is a huge accomplishment and really says something in itself. But I was really disappointed in their pole routine & dance execution, it was just "ok" and for ABDC it's gotta be more than "ok" to stay on that show and I realized as I watched them perform that it really felt "off" them being in a competetion like that…it didn't seem, feel or look like the right fit to showcase pole fitness.

I have 3 kids–18, 7 and 3 1/2. My 18 year old has since moved out of the house but when he was living with me he was weirded out by me poling & I honestly too felt strange poling in front of him, I don't know why but I think maybe it was because it made him uncomfortable that I didn't feel right about it. I saved practices for when he wasnt home or was asleep.

Once my eldest moved out, I practice more and my lil ones don't care and are into it too.I don't really do sexy moves around them though, I save that for when they are in their playroom occupied with a movie or video games or in bed asleep because my 3 year old loves to mimic me at this stage/age and last thing I need is for her to do a booty pop on the playground. Spins and tricks, I do in front of them no problem. They climb and spin on the pole all day long…they can't walk past it without doing some move on the pole lol. Some of my friends, family and coworkers know I pole. I don't force poling down their throats 24/7 though but if poling comes up in convo, I proudly speak me praises of poling.

When my daughter gets older, I won't care if she wants to learn pole and will keep poling age appropriate for her and keep the sexy stuff out of it until she is alot older and can understand when all that is appropriate to add to your pole routine. My younger son, we have been thinking about getting him into the chinese acrobatic type poling and gymnastics because he has amazing arm strength and stamina.

In the end, you have to do what's best for you and your family. If you guys are happy poling as a family keep doing that, f what other people think!

It was akward for me at first to have him watch me practice and I felt real self concious. But now I've gotten used to it but now days he barely looks my way anymore when I practice anyway lol. He spots me when I ask and he shoots most of my vids that I post here.

I do sometimes wish that I had the privacy and more space though (right now my pole is smack dab in my dining area/living room area–so the kids and hubby are constantly coming through there as I practice) just to allow myself to really let go…I know I hold back a little with the whole family running around my practice space.

When we get a house next year…my one major request is that I have a designated pole/dance/exercise studio! I can't wait!

Right now i'm 80% dance and 20% spins and tricks. I'd like to get to the point where I am 60% dance and 40% tricks though. When i watch pole dancers i like 50% dance & 50 % tricks but I must say that I am blown away by girls who are trixters too that hardly dance because doing back to back tricks is no joke and takes alot of skill. But I do get bored quickly with that, so more often than not, I can watch a poler longer if she has a nice balance of both in her routine.

@studioveena oh no I'm not delusional lol I don't expect hooping alone to work a miracle on my abs no way! I have been doing P90x cardio, core and ab workouts, pole AND hooping to try and get my abs into shape!

I JUST got a 1 lb weighted hoop 41" diameter. So far i like it. got a hooping book and DVD that's on it's way, so I'm excited to learn some hoop tricks and such. I have pretty good stamina though and can hoop for a good 15-20 mins already just doing the basic standing in one spot and hooping. Thinking I will probably need to graduate to a 3 lb hoop in a couple of weeks to get a little more challenge going with the hoop 🙂

Does anyone know how long it takes to see some progress in your abs from hooping? I am working on my summer belly…doing p90x, poling AND now hooping I'm figuring my abs have bo choice but to be in shape come June!

My little ones don't exactly get it yet ie they dont associate it with strippers or anything…they just know I use it to dance and for exercise. My little ones also LOVE doing moves on the pole and can't pass by it without spinning around it. I've taught my 6 yr old son a few spins and poses which he has nailed. My 3 year old isn't as apt as my 6 year old on the pole yet but she is trying to learn some moves 🙂 I believe honesty is the key with kids and like most have said if you act like there is nothing wrong with poling(which there isnt), then your kids will see nothing wrong with it either! On the other hand, my 18 year old who moved out a few months ago mind you…thinks its gross that i pole dance he strongly believes that moms are not supposed to move like that nor should they be sexy only strippers are allowed lol.  He also getsHHeHealso getsHeHe is also a little weirded out that the little ones can do moves on the pole…last time he visited over xmas though I got him to try a couple of holds on the pole to show him that it is very athletic and hard to do!  I showed him some of the chinese pole dance vids as well and he was a little impressed by that. Granted, he's still not completely sold or ok with his mom doing it doing it but he did think some of the chinese pole work stuff was cool.

My pole is smack dab in the middle of our living room and my husband always offers to take it down when we are expecting visitors but I always say nope leave it up and I am honest about the fact that I pole when people ask. Most of my husbands family and mine know that I pole, some are weird about it but most are cool about it. The only time i take my pole down is when the landlord or maintence team is supposed to come into our apt other than that my pole is like a piece of our furniture lol

The bruising is very normal and from what I know even the most advanced & professional polers still get bruises, its just a part of poling. However, extensive bruising may mean you may need to have your iron levels checked. Sometimes anemia can be the cause of extensive brusing.

I am a pretty open and honest person right off the bat with people but at first, I wasn’t that open with people about my poling. Not because I was ashamed but because people can be complete assholes sometimes and I didn’t feel like the drama. But now that I have been poling awhile, I really don’t give a rats ass what people think. I even inserted a bit about loving pole into my twitter and facebook profiles. Nowdays almost everyone I deal with–family, friends etc know that I pole. Of course I don’t shove it in their faces all the time, but if the subject comes up, I rave about the pole whenever I can. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I think you can do it all…it will take a little planning is all. I know what you mean though, I have a CRAZY work schedule…most weeks I work 50+ hours, plus have 2 little ones and a hubby at home who crave my attention any spare second I can give them. I really find that I have to plan/schedule my pole sessions. I’ve been trying to do 1 hour 2-3x a week at minimum. Some weeks when I’m really really busy, I try and at least squeeze in 20-30 mins 1-2x a week, even if it’s just floorwork or dancing around the pole just to keep my body moving.

Another idea for you might be to make a decision to do your pole workouts on the weekend when you have a little more time or wake up 30 mins to an hour earlier 2-3 days out of the week to practice on your pole. I do have to admit though that not being able to pole on a steady regular basis, that my progress is going a little slower than I would like…but I’d rather be a few steps behind than not poling at all https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif I love the pole too much!

    Hope that helps!

I highly recommend Venna’s lessons. I love them! You can’t beat it for $20 a month and her lessons are great!

Dizziness oh boy do I know that one. I have the same issue…but like someone said, i realized that if i do other stationary moves or poses in between, I don’t get dizzy as frequently. It’s going to be really interesting when I start trying spinny mode, I am not a good at spotting never have been.

As far as my hubby watching, I was a little uneasy with that too at first until I started feeling really comfy with the pole. My pole is smack dab in the middle of our dining area, so i kinda have no privacy but I don’t mind him watching now. 90% of the time he ignores me anyway now days when I am praticing.
