Yep. It is VERY frustrating but normal. I have had this happened several times during my pole journey. In fact, I am having this issue right now with the shoulder mount. I had it for weeks and now I haven’t been able to do it for weeks. Grr. Been working on getting it back…

Most of us either work on moves we are trying to learn or perfect together and/or help each other by virtually spotting each other execute a move during a Skype session.

I highly recommend going with the xpole xpert. http://xpoleus.com/store/extension-45mm-chrome-1000mm-p-584.html 1000mm extension (which works for ceilings up to 11”10 is the highest they sell on the xpole site BUT if you call as specified on their site, they may have solutions for you since your ceiling is over 14 ft. The xpert is SUPER easy to take up and down. Once you get the hang of it, it only takes 10 mins or less to put up and down. IMO I find stages ok for tricks and combos but not easy to dance or do floorwork around, so if you want something where you’ll have a little more freedom as far as floor space to move and dance and not be too limited go with the xpert.

I noticed a big difference in my core strength in a little under 2 weeks into the challenge! Thinking about doing another round of the challenge because I’ve been off the pole several days and I need to build my strength back up

I am at the tail end of finishing up my requirements for the Pole Moves beginner/intermediate teacher certification and I like it a lot. It qualifies for ACE & AFAA CEC’s. I plan on taking the Pole Moves intermediate/advanced teacher cert in the Spring. Also, they recently added a distance learning option/program for the Beg/Interm cert. Check it out. http://www.polemoves.net

MemberOctober 17, 2013 at 10:44 am in reply to: Emulating pole studio conditions at homeI have the SAME issue. It can be VERY frustrating! I just deal with it day by day…I just got itac & it helps my body parts stick a lot better but it’s no bueno on the hands, which is where my main issue with grip lies when working on SG, TG & other advanced inverted moves that rely on great hand grip. So I have been on the prowl for a grip aid that will work on my DRY hands. I have found though that if my body and pole are extremely warm, I have less of an issue at home. But both have to be warmed up just right or else=bad pole day.
I also think that at the studio, we warm up well & the poles are nice & broken in, so they aren’t as slippery, so they provide a better grip.
I plan getting a 45 TG or brass soon (I have a 50 chrome now) though…hoping that will help too.

Crap, correction…I've been poling 3 years! It'll be 4 years in March! 🙂

Definitely don't wait! Go for it now. You will also lose weight while you learn pole! Don't forget to do some cardio!

I am not flexible either but after poling 2 1/2 years but I am A LOT more flexible than I was when I first started that's for sure! I am not a fan of flexibility workouts, but I am trying to get better at doing them because I want to do moves that require more flexibility. With time, you become more flexible but if you want to be extremely flexible and do the really extreme tricks that involve a lot of flexibility, you will need to up your game and do flexibility training a few days a week. Also, same goes for strength…it grows as you learn pole but additional strength training is ideal, if you want to progress at a steady pace.
You don't necessarily need a gym…I use arm strength and conditioning exercises that I find on SV and elsewhere online and workout at home. I also have a pull up bar, do sit ups, planks, elbow and forearm stands to help with my core and arm strength as well. I also use light hand weights and do exercises using iphone apps.

Go to Amazon.com and do a search for Vado, Flip HD or Kodak Playfull HD. You can also get a regular high megapixel photo camera too with video camera capabilities OR if you have an iphone or ipad, I know alot of gals that use that to video tape themselves too. Hope that helps!

Get an HD Flip, they are great, super easy to use and reasonably priced. I love mine.

Cardio helps immensely with endurance…Running, Zumba, kick boxing, treadmill interval training, even hooping.
