It’s just too damn cold everywhere. I have the heat on in my house to like 72 and my heating bill is huge! The only time I can get a real good practice is at the studio where they use a space heater and it gets like 80 something degrees. Then I stick like glue and it’s awesome! More studio, less house. Can’t wait ’til summer so I’ll feel like a freakin’ pro!

no way! I can’t believe some of you are getting this move so quickly! I tried it a million times after I saw it and thought the pain on my hooked foot/ankle was going to snap the damn thing in two! hmm…haven’t tried it in boots yet. let’s see…..

Yeah, it’s like you’re doing a pole climb with the back leg (let’s say left leg) and you stick your right leg around the pole and behind the left knee before you hook the left foot behind the pole. I can get my legs in that position but to attempt to lay back kills my left foot/ankle. I wonder how much weight is on the top knee versus the hooked foot.

Yeah, I’m doing the split grip aysha all the time. It’s my favorite move since I got it like a month ago and I do it like 10 times on each side every time I touch the pole. To be honest, I’m still having a little trouble with the straight edge (I think b/c I never learned it with elbow or forearm).
I’m to the point now where I’m getting the first leg up to the top of the pole on every cartwheel and handspring move but I’m mentally scared that I’m going to flip over so I don’t push all the way and then try to balance.
Is it likely that I’ll go over too far or is that just in my head?

Hey ladies! I’m going to be coming up for Karol’s workshop but am not (yet) planning to go to anything else. What else are you all taking or planning to do during the day? I’ll probably just drive up sometime the day of the workshops. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
This snow thing is tripping me out but it’s a straight shot across 64 for me.

Yay! I just got it earlier in the week too! Doesn’t it feel so good to finally have it? What a cool move! Somehow it reminds me of the Jetsons. I think because it just looks like you’re floating upside down! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif

I guess that being not sexual has been drilled into my head. I have a very professional job and anytime anyone is remotely sexy, someone calls it out and makes a big deal out of it. My coworkers know I pole and some of them will ask about new moves which ALWAYS leads to a discussion about strippers and stripclubs and lapdances and people get all giggly and weird. Why is it weird? Also, they sometimes act like you can’t be sexy at all in order to be a professional person.
My husband even does the same and, yes, I have sex with him. For example, being in pole class has taught me to carry myself in a more sexy way and the other day I came down the steps with a hand on my hip and he was like, "whoa! what’s up with the sexy walk?" I had no idea I was doing it but I felt embarrassed to the point where I stopped.
It’s like I have two lives. One where I’m not sexy around other people and one where I’m sexy only around myself. That’s crap. I’m going to work to be more sexy everywhere I go.

Yeah, this damn hand sweating thing is for the birds. I’m strong enough to do tons of moves but when my hands are the slightest bit sweaty I can’t do anything. I poled all throughout the fall and never had to use anything for grip but now that it’s cold and dry I am having to use it more and more.

ok, I do a gemini into an exploding K (an apprentis, I guess). then my trick to get it everytime is that I put the pole further down my bottom leg (closer to the knee) and really high on my top leg (closer to my behind) which seems to help me roll over into the right position every time. Hope that made sense.

I like both honestly. I have a 50 xpole but at class I use really small brass poles. 50 is better for some things in my opinion but smaller is better for inverted tricks for me. It’s kinda cool though cause if I can do a move at home, I know I can rock it in class. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I am so relieved to hear that other folks are having the same cold weather difficulty. Not that I’d wish it on anyone…I’m just glad it’s not my imagination. I was really doing great ’til the cold hit and now I can’t hold on for the tricks! This is my first winter poleing so I figured it was the cold but then I was wondering if I was just fooling myself. Well, off to practice transitions and floorwork since my tricks aren’t happening. And I’ll try shaving cream as soon as I get some (just ran out).

has anyone tried the HCG drops that you can buy online? just wondering if they work. If they do, I’m getting some!

haha, that is so funny! considering I used to rock climb pretty hard and I’d do heel hooks (pretty much an inversion) like hundreds of feet in the air over my own placed gear in the side of a mountain or cliff with a guy holding the other end of my rope to prevent catastrophy, pole dancing is pretty safe in my book! We all realize that we could slip on a move and the results could suck but that’s why we choose our moves carefully and only take risks we are prepared for.

Yeah, since starting to pole in early September, I haven’t really lost pounds but I have dropped like 2 pant sizes. Pole keeps me motivated to eat smaller portions and healthy food. Plus, I just imagine how much easier it would be in all my inverts and tricks if I have a little less to hoist up! haha. I just feel better all over when I’m poleing.

I just got the split grip aysha a couple of days ago. A few things that really helped me: watching videos of people doing it especially the tutorial simpllysweet did for joel on youtube, sliding my feet down the pole like a frog (just practiced that for a couple of weeks), and then looking at myself upside down in a mirror as I tried it (which somehow helped me balance).
