LOL Sissy. I don't know if I could take a workshop with her without embarrassing myself!

You can look into buying a pair of weight lifting gloves at some place like Walmart and use them strictly when you are doing holds and strength exercises. You can typically pick them up for about $10. Go for the tightest fitting pair as they will stretch out. If you want to go really cheap just get some dish washing gloves.

Have you looked on Craiglist for positions? I have been finding more and more companies using this free site to post jobs.

itac does not work well for me either (at least level 2). I have recently seen a product called ghost grip but have been unable to get their website to come up.

Just so you know, your parents have to pay into unemployment whether anyone files or not. And why do you not qualify for government assistance?
Webmaster is right. I know of very little positions that don't want you to have at least some college education, especially professional positions. It does not matter what the degree is in, it just shows that you can set a goal and work several years toward it.
I would also look into free services that help with resumes and cover letters in your area. If you are sending out hundreds of resumes and not getting even a nibble there may be something blaringly obvious in your resume that you are not seeing but employers are. Also talk to recruiters. Many times they have "ins" with companies and many times those "ins" can get you in the door even without a college education.
Also….for the rest of you who may be reading this…I cannot stress enough how important a college education is in this economy and in the near future. Even if it is only a 2 year degree in pottery making it still says a lot to potential employers. There are so many online and evening classes available that there really is no excuse.

Read the first blog on this page:

Also, if you shoot from a higher angle as opposed to straight on or looking up that should help. There are video editing tricks that can help with the aspect if you want to.

You all are silly. Let's see, Friday we went and checked out a new bar in town that has a pole. The pole sucks but it was fun none the less (it is brushed steel and they have a rail for the steps close by that I kicked really hard). Stopped by the local watering hole on the way there and on the way home and danced on top of the bar.
Today a pole got installed at the local watering hole so I am going to check it out tomorrow after work.
Oh, and a girl I met at the one bar said she hopes that she looks half as good as I do when she hits my age!!

I am 42 and have never been able to do the splits but I have dedicated myself to getting them this year (and I am getting close). I think the only thing that may have changed is perception….we remember how we "used to be" and think it is taking so long to get back "there", but think….it has taken you 10 years to get where you are now.

Craptastic! I was looking through my latest Oxygen magazine and in the back there was an ad for Body By Brazil workout wear. The model was wearing a really cute bra top so I ventured onto the site. Not something I should have done. They are a little expensive but OMGawd:

This was the outfit that was in the ad:

I am in lust with so many of the tops it is not even funny (this one has a T-back!!)

Pole ups are like pull ups/chin ups but using the pole. Basically grabbing a little higher than your head and then lifting yourself to eye level, letting yourself down and then pulling up again (feet off the floor). Switch which hand is higher.

I saw an ad on Craigslist in Detroit for the same poles. Did not know it was this company but recognize the pictures. Sorry, I don't know anything about them.

This is normally not like her, which is kinda scary! LOL She has shown it off to those coming by to see her!
AWESOME!!!!!
I have poled on pretty much every finish and have had issues with every finish. Day to day things are just going to be different and you just have to deal…that is the beauty of our sport! If you cannot grip then work on floor work (even though you had your heart set on nailing that one move).
Brass: yes it is grippy but it leaves a nasty smell on your hands, scratches really easily and WILL remove skin. I have slipped off of a brass pole just as easily as I have slipped off of TG, chrome, stainless and yes, even my powder coated pink one.
This was a really interesting (to me) conversation that I had with Pantera when she was in town. When you perfrom/compete/teach you have no idea what conditions you are going to come across. You have to be good no matter what. So deal with your slippery pole and learn on it….it will only make you a better poler in the long run!!

In the Art of Pole series Jamilla teaches a sort of 1-2 bend of the knees when you are first learning to hold your weight. Basically what you will do is bend one knee while the other is still down and then release it quickly and while it is moving to the ground bend your other knee. (Think of jumping rope but in a skipping type motion). When you start both feet will be off the ground mere seconds but then you can increase the time that both feet are off the floor.
When I learned to hold my body weight it was just doing pole-ups. I learned the prayer slide as a cool way to get down from a climb.
