Oh, there is no way I am even close to a center split. By "straight" I meant parallel to the floor. Mine are always pointing more towards the ceiling.

Stay away from the stretchy kind. There was someone who posted on here that hers tore apart within a few times of wearing them and they were expen$ive. None of the "stripper shoe" manufacturers will replace them as they are "not designed to be used for pole dancing".

Pleaser does make a "plus size" line of shoes and boots. Not sure about the other companies. On the thigh high’s I would look for a style that could be folded over at the top.

Oh, and as for wandering tongue….it even happens when they are tight. I have ankle high boots that do the exact same thing. It is incredibly annoying.

chemgoddess1- Sounds like a good goal! You have over 20 years to get the splits right? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif
    Such a sweet girl…..

I have the splits in 6 weeks printed out and I REALLY need to get working on it. I need to dedicate myself to it and that is my issue. I was trying to lift on the days that I did not Zumba but that dies really quickly. Now I am trying to pole on those days instead (just started last week). It just sucks when life gets in the way and I am not getting home until 7pm because I am out running errands.

I have never heard of this before. Googling came up with :Nia Now. Sounds interesting….

Dancing Through Life: The Nine Movement Forms of Nia

Martial Arts: T’ai Chi, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido
Dance Arts: Jazz Dance, Modern Dance, Duncan Dance
Healing Arts: Yoga, Alexander Technique, The Teachings of Moshe Feldenkrais®

Through Nia practice, you learn to foster awareness of your life through physical sensation, allowing the Voice of The Body to direct your actions and choices, leading to a general state of what Nia calls Dynamic Ease. Practiced barefoot to music, each person is invited to move at his or her own level of intensity, adapting the 52 Moves to their body potential at any given moment. While delivering cardiovascular, whole-body conditioning, Nia creates a loving relationship with one’s own body by tuning into The Body’s Way: the innate intelligence of the body.

Most of all, Nia is exhilarating and fun!

Veena….seriously pick up the book Coconut Oil Miracle. Or even read the studies posted at coconut research center. Coconut Oil is medium chain trigylcerides which is converted straight to energy….it is not stored as fat nor does it raise blood cholesterol. There is another really good article by a personal trainer that I highly regard: Sexy Fats. And for those who follow a clean eating diet, Tosca has even finally jumped on the bandwagon and has written about it in 2 issues of Oxygen in the last 6 months.

For anyone who is interested there is a TON of really good information here. These are the guys who are studying the science behind bodybuilding, nutrition and mental focus and much of their work while light years ahead of popular "knowledge" is what many of the supplements that you see at places like GNC are based on. Granted even with being in pharmaceutical research myself (in the past) this stuff goes over my head!

Velvet…I know about being frightened. It was not until the first jam in Columbus that I was ever that high up upside down. The crowd gives me courage!

As for the invert, practice baseball grip knee ups (BOTH SIDES). Once you feel secure holding your body weight start tilting your hips up to the ceiling, keeping your legs kind of froggy style. Control the knees up AND DOWN…..do not let yourself just drop out of it.

    YOU CAN DO IT!!!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rambo.gif

Make protein shakes and coconut oil your friends. Protein shakes for after working out to help repair the damage and coconut oil (3T daily) for extra energy. There are also studies showing that creatine use in women is more beneficial in women than it is in men. In a recent study (my don’t I sound scientific) it was found that taking creatine improved anaerobic threshold (when your body starts producing lactic acid…sore muscles) by 16%. Aim for 3-5 grams daily.

April 27, 2010 at 12:35 pm in reply to: Pole Installation Trouble! Help!

There is something on their site about it in the installation .pdf. Basically you twist and push it a little toward the base and this will extend the inner tube. It only extends a little at a time. When you try to pull the inner tube it will come back out (it does not "lock" in place)….this is the design of it. It seems counter-intuitive but it does work.
