MemberAugust 17, 2013 at 2:31 pm in reply to: Wall Street Journal addresses pole danceThere is another factor here that no one has touched on but has been brought up in other conversations, and that is sponsorship. These events are not cheap in any way to put on and requires lots of begging for money (I am calling it what it is). Many companies will donate product but it is hard to sell advertising to a company in a country that still for the most part sees pole as stripping. Even many venues have stipulations on the amount of skin that can show due to their city zoning ordinances. A venue that sells alcohol can very easily lose their liquor license and no one wants to ruin a business. Once the competition has a name usually the guard comes down a bit.
And leeloo, with the pole sleeves that are starting to crop up minimal clothing is no longer needed, however things like spins are pretty much not an option, so it will definitely go more towards a Chinese style performance.

Leeloo, I think you misunderstood Koidragon. In that piece Crystal bared her soul on stage. Every single movement had meaning. It was a very strong, personal and well thought out performance that was executed not for theater but for competition. It took a lot of balls for her to do that piece. It took a lot of thought for the movements. THAT is sexy. You have to have one hell of a personality to pull that performance off. THAT is sexy. To be able to pull the amount of emotion out of the audience. THAT is sexy. Her piece in an of itself was not "sexy", per se but the thought process to do it was. As Ashton Kutcher just said this past week, being smart is sexy.

Yes, yes you can Ebony. And you are ONE SEXY MOMMA!!!

It cracks me up that the same people who go to Zumba routinely will look down their noses at pole. Not all, but many.

I love the event that Charley puts on in Michigan every year. While this year it did have a competition attached to it, the main attraction is the showcase. There were 2 showcases this year because of the amount of people who signed up to perform. You had everything from people who had just started pole to those that have competed and are well known. They even had 2 vagina monster races that day. I think I cried and laughed and screamed my heart out during those performances. I am not a huge competition person. While I appreciate the hard work that all of the ladies put into their routines it is something entirely different to watch someone get up there and just ooze sexiness. One of my girls from Cleveland who does not do a lot of pole tricks got up there in a negligee and oozed and grinded and screamed sexy. I will never forget Layla's routine for as long as I live. And how can anyone forget the lap dance that Dayanara got! I hope that the event lives on for years to come as it is just SO MUCH FUN. This is the reason that I back showcases and I can tell you that at events like this there is a TON of sexy going on! The after parties are even more off the hook. Nothing like a bunch of people who do not understand what is and is not "appropriate social behavior" out in a bar doing body shots and hand stands and booty popping and dirty dancing….oh my.

Aerial Amy blogged about rolfing back in 2012. I am hoping to find one here in NC. I went to one session up in Ohio but I was not too thrilled with the set up so I never went back. It was about $110 and I think if you are in a metro are it is closer to $200 a session.

BTW, Cara, there is a group on facebook called stripperstyle. It is full of videos and people who still keep the sexy.
Oh, also, I did cry at Crystal's performance. I cannot even express the emotions that piece brought out in me, and that was sitting in the comfort of my own home. I would have been a wreck if I saw that in person. A WRECK!

OMG, so I had to come back to this after watching Crystal Belcher's performance from the US NPC. What she did on stage with a pole I have only seen a few others do. To me it seems like the US is taking on lyrical dance and tricking out as the 2 distinct styles and we are keeping booty popping and body rolls as part of the hidden, fun, release, escape that pole provides. I would think that if we started putting a ranking on booty popping or body rolls it would stop being fun.

BTW, here is that thread: https://www.studioveena.com/forums/view/Wall_Street_Journal_addresses_pole_dance_20130812124327

There is a really good thread that webby started looking for feelings on that article. There are so many reasons that pole is losing its sexy. Also many people are just uncomfortable doing sexy but are very comfortable busting out a gymnastics style routine. As the sport has grown each country has kind of taken on its own "style". Seeing as the US is so backwards when it comes to women's sexuality it is not surprising that we are losing sexy.

This is why you have to research the competition that you are entering. So many people enter any competition just to get their name "known" without really researching what kind of image that competition is trying to express. There are plenty comps out there for each and every style.

TYpically if you have very dark hair it will take 2 liftings but they need to be done several days apart. It is hard to get out of the orange hair stage to get to the yellow in just one bleaching. I will also taut the magic properties of ApHogee. It is stinky, it is messy, it takes forever but I have brought my hair back from rubber band damage to being healthy.
If you are thinking of coloring at this point I would do a protein treatment and use a filler with the color.
I am also not a stylist, just a chemist who has done all sots of fun damage to her hair over the years.

I have used many different types of glues. Quite honestly one of the best all purpose adhesives has been a product called Quick Grip, I have used this from tent/canvas repair to costume making (https://www.studioveena.com/photos/view_photo/4f7e2321-d504-4969-9ba1-70470ac37250 and the bra in this photo https://www.studioveena.com/photos/previous/4f7e2321-d504-4969-9ba1-70470ac37250)

It is best if you need a flexible/pliable adhesion. I have used the steel epoxy (stinky stinky) for the repair of my boots but have yet to put them to a full test. I have also used a 2 part epoxy in the past that is made for plastics and fiberglass that would probably work pretty well if you need a filler of sorts. I cannot remember the brand that I bought. I will try to find it and post it. I had a holding tank on an rv that I patched with it and it worked phenomenally.

BTW, every single routine class I have taken has taught maybe 30 seconds to a minute, practiced it 2-3 times then taught the next section, practice, add it all together then so on and so forth. Some have taught by count and some have taught by lyrics/parts of the song.
