Pole dancing does so much for the mind and soul it is hard to explain. Studio time seems to enhance this tenfold. First, it is a a time just for YOU. Many studios have you exploring your emotions through dance and that in itself is healing. Women are drilled that if you are not a size 2 then you are not sexy and studios totally dismiss that. There really is something healing about hip circles and body rolls that make you feel sexy again….you can't NOT feel sexy doing them. In most studios there is no competition with one another and just total support. There is a learning to love being in your own skin. All of these things do wonders for your self esteem, not to mention getting fit along the way. There are a bunch of blogs out there about this exact phenomenon. As I started, it is hard to explain and put into words. But it is magical!

I have pics in my profile of the new vs old. The new are actually screws that set the height of the pin whereas the old ones were just a pressure pin.

I would get a new X joint which are like $20. Check to see if a studio near you is a seller and you can get a discount. The divot can be patched temporarily with a little JB weld or a similar type of epoxy. How old is your pole? I know that they have a 6 month warranty (I believe) and if you have the old style XJoints I would replace them anyway.

Cheapest is probably boy cut underwear and any cheap sports bra. I don't think I have paid more than $10 for any piece of pole wear that I own (save tank tops from studios that I visit).

Pole Appropriate clothing: that really depends on the studio that you are attending. I know that at The Mynx Accademy they pretty much just strip down to their bra and panties and it is not an issue. Other studios wear booty shorts and sports bras. And I know of one studio that had done strip tease and lap dance classes that go down to G strings. This is all studio based. That said, I wear booty shorts, tank tops and sports bras. I try to make sure that the booty shorts don't easily slip to expose myself and I always wear a safety thing under. As for the sports bras, I try to make sure that I am not going to easily fall out of it. While I am not large chested I have had issues with stretched out sports bras moving around on me.
For men I would just be sure that you are wearing something that securely tucks your package and does not show too much of an outline.
Comps and shoes: I could care less. There are SOOOOOO many competitions now that if you like wearing shoes you can find one that allows it, if you don't there are comps for that too.
When I am just learning stuff I do not wear shoes. There is nothing like coming clumsily out of a move and rolling your ankle. But then there are some moves that are much easier (and harder) with shoes. I will say that the instant I slip on a pair of shoes my whole mood changes. Kori from this site also has one of the tip jar pairs of shoes that she has filled with pennies and uses them to train inverts. Yeah, she is a beast.
Starting out I think shoes with a wider heel are easier to pole in. Again, the whole rolling of the ankle thing. I think Pleasers and Ellies are probably the most common and the Kiss style (I am not sure of Ellies name for them) are the widest used. These are the styles that you can usually find for under $50 at any lingerie/adult type store. Padded with an ankle strap are probably the 2 most important features. Padded because dancing for any length of time on the styles of shoes you find at the mall just is not comfortable. Ankle straps for 2 reasons: one they give you stability and they also keep the shoes on your feet when you are flinging your feet around. There has been more than one story of patrons of strip clubs getting nailed by a flinging shoe. And they are not light! On top of this, a rocker toe makes the platforms easier to walk and pole in and many store bought shoes do not have this feature. And while both manufacturers will say their shoes are not designed for pole dancing, the quality of the materials and stitching and even the steel post in the heel will tell you differently.

Yeah, see at my old house they had taken over all of the surrounding woods to build developments that are now sitting vacant. The deer had no where to go so they moved into the neighborhoods. I had to put up over 6 foot fences just to keep them out of my garden. The hostas and tulips they dug up usually in the spring just as they started to come up. These deer were so desperate they even ate my tiger lilies and the evergreens between my house and the neighbors house. NOTHING was keeping these things away. I only have to worry about turtles and snakes now.

Gladiolus are also very easy care plants and are beautiful when they bloom. I am also a fan of zinnias but have never planted any.
I will say though that deer tend to love hostas and tulips so if you have wildlife I would stay away from them unless you do not mind putting money out to replace them.

Trust me, Kori has no issue with being sexy. She has that crap DOWN.

And this too shall pass. You knew this day would come when pole had to take a back burner to school. It is only temporary and then you will get your sexy beastly self back…..and I bet she will be different!

Kori, I feel bad for you. I know that this whole shift in your life is totally blowing right now and I am not sure if Monday nights are happening any more which used give you that silly release. Poling at home just won't do it….you need to be out and taking in a crowd atmosphere. Maybe hit the one gay club that has a pole with Pean and Melinda?

Make sure that you have in writing the amount of clothing that will be left on and what the DJ can and cannot say. DJ's are typically pigs and will do anything for ratings or applause and usually that means demeaning women.

MemberJuly 10, 2013 at 3:28 pm in reply to: Wanting to perform at events… Ideas on rates? It really all depends on the amount of time you are on stage. MINIMUM should be $50 per performer, and that is just to show up and set up and perform one song. That is a choreographed song. If you are freestyling and just eye candy then you can lower the rate for a set amount of time. Again though, accept no less than $50 per person.
The only time you should perform for free is if it is a charity event that you support or if it is a big event and you are getting top billing and will possibly get other work out of it. Those should be kept to a minimum though.
There was a discussion somewhat recently on stripper style that I will see if I can find.
Oh, also if it is an event make sure you get comp passes for stage kittens or set up people. Typically they will allow 1-2 people per performer to get in free.

Once you get to that point practicing on the type of pole really is a non issue. I think once you get past a certain level you have a preference but you are able to perform on anything.
