I’m tall like you too (6’2″) and found that it was my lack of arm strength and lower abs that were killing me. For the arms: I always remember my teacher telling me to drive the pole into the ground the whole time. So, biceps in right angles. For lower abs, I practice plows a lot. Starting from doing them with legs straight up and plow back with an strength (not momentum). Then trying them from all the way lying down, up and over. It took me 9 months to invert safely and comfortably.

Wow, thanks Veena! I’m determined to nail this move in 2015! Love hanging the prep moves so I can work on it more.

I studied at S Factir for a few years and the emphasis is really in free dance vs. tricks. No mirrors, no critiquing yourself. Something I was taught there is: pick a song that you love (music inspires!), close your eyes and go with what feels good. When it feels good, it more than likely also looks good. You can record yourself and check your progress, but focus on things that feel good to your body first and foremost.

Love this idea! Especially excited for floor work!! I was thinking of getting a DVD, but now I’ll wait to see what fun, slinky moves you post. Thanks Veena!

Love this thread and it really made me think. I had never considered whether my pole was male or female, but all my associations were of strong, goddesslike women.

So, I just named my 50mm TG pole: Cleopatra.

Mysterious (can’t figure her out sometimes) regal goddess who is loved and sometimes feared (sums up my feelings perfectly).

  • Great ideas, club dynasty. i’ve bought a pair of the Danskin shorts at Walmart. would you mind posting a few pics of the other brands of shorts you mentioned?

Tite Grip II has changed my (poling) life. It’s amazing. And somehow it seems to work WITH the sweat to give me more grip. Though I love them for certain tricks (mostly holds for strength training or on spiny), Sometimes the Mighty Grip tack gloves are counterproductive because they make me sweat more and then my hands are slipping around inside them. I also wipe down the pole with rubbing alcohol after most sequences. Hope that helps!

I absolutely love my 50mm TG xpole. Great grip, but not “too grippy”. So glad I have it. You should do it!! 🙂

I am super sweaty and recently found a great combo. I use Tite Grip on my hands. I still sometimes need to wipe the pole, but not nearly as much as before. When I need a little extra grip, I use Mighty Grip powder. It’s especially good for in between my thighs and really helped with by pole sits and releases like CAR. For new tricks where I really need a good grip, I use Mighty Grip tacky gloves. They are awesome and help me build muscle memory to do the tricks without them.
