    Who went to the workshops and how did they go??? Did u guys have a blast? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

    I took all three workshops and loved all of them. Marlo’s was great since it was just four of us, so we got a lot of individual attention and learned useful tips like how to use the shoulder/back muscles while climbing instead of our arms (it ain’t easy). The students grew exponentially as the day progressed. I think Jenyne’s had 16 students! And poor girl was sick, but she managed to stay smiley and powered through.

    I learned a ton, like the scale split Marlo does in her Leprechaun routine, and in Karol’s workshop I finally got the superwoman flip over to outside leg hang. And after many failed and very frustrating attempts in which I nearly turned Hulk, I learned the Jenyne "slinky"/cartwheel down the pole. That was one of those tricks in which the entire class was able to figure out except for me at the very end. I hate it when that happens https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

    For those of you who missed it, here are videos of some of the Pole Show LA performances:

    Leigh Ann’s rocking "Little Red Corvette" routine – she started on the fireplace! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2j_Opqchag" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

    The Pole Garage’s "Spy Girls" routine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWbM9yZDN2c" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (I’m the one with the side ponytail on the far right)

    Jenyne Butterfly – so gorgeous and entertaining to watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpr3C1S4Gqo" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

    Anjel Dust’s fire routine – hot! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rS1Hbm7e6O8" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

    Alethea Austin – hands down, the best use of an office rolling chair in a routine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcOVsOnq2v4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

    The aforementioned group routine with the crazy stacked spinning Gemini: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMtxxhp07oc" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

    Thanks to everyone who made it out on Saturday. The amount of talent in that room was insane.

    Loved Marlo’s retro Gershwinn-meets-Dr. Dre routine (she stuffed her knickers with glitter, which exploded mid-way through the routine) and the finale act, which had Leigh Ann, Stella, Tami and Amy stacked on top of each other in Geminis on a spinning 18-foot pole.

    And of course, I have to give props to my sisters at The Pole Garage! My neck is still sore from all the crazed hair-flipping.

    I got to meet Castleoutsider too.

    Did you go? What did you think?

    I was just asked to do my fire act for the show, so I will be doing that also. I’m so excited to be able to perform twice in such an impressive line up. If you’re going to be in California you’ve got to make it down. Buy tickets at http://www.bespun.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; A window for the Pole Show will pop-up.

    NO WAY, Anjel! I’ve *heard* about your fire show, never actually seen it. Whee! So exciting.

    Can we create a topic for workshops just so some of us who live in the middle of the country can keep a tab on what’s going on and maybe worth flying out to? I’m probably not going to make this one or the USPDF one, but I’d like to prepare for a field trip this year somewhere https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

    That’s a really good idea, MissJulie.

    I’m so excited that you’re all attending!

    I posted this in another thread in "Events," but there are some great workshops on the Sunday after the show. I signed up for all three workshops – Jenyne, Marlo and Karol, who’s doing a Drops workshop, which should be pretty insane on the 18-footers!

    I’m asking Amy about this and will let you know.

    I signed up for all three workshops. Whee! Karol’s "drops" workshop should be fun, considering Be Spun’s 18-foot poles https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

    Welcome! I currently live in LA but grew up in Austin (go herns.)

    And wow – you should be very proud of yourself that you accomplished the Superman after only three months! That’s a very advanced move. Your teachers at The Girls Room must be doing something right! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

    Hello from LA (Melrose/Fairfax area) and welcome to Studio Veena! I’ve only just been on a month or so myself, but it’s a great community of women we have here.

    Your story is quite the inspiration. Looking to hearing and seeing photos of your pole dancing progress!

    Do you have to have a gymnastics or dance background to be accepted into these competitions? I know you don’t have to have one to learn pole dancing but, for competing is it required?

    I competed in USPDF West and don’t have any dance or gymnastics background. In fact, before picking up pole dancing at the age of 28, I was a verifiable couch potato/slob/lazy ass that hadn’t been to the gym since accompanying my roommate to an aerobics class my freshman year of college!

    Now, had I been practicing dance or gymnastics since childhood, would I be a better pole dancer and performer? Hells yeah. But I make do with what I got. And that’s kind of what makes this sport so awesome –it’s a great sport for non-fitnessy types who never would have exercised had they not discovered pole dancing.

    Well, your evening sounds pretty darn amazing! I’m sure we’ll have many more opportunities to meet https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

    Do you take classes with Michula at Antix? She must be a great teacher – I was so impressed with her students. They had a lot of spunk and seemed so comfortable performing.

    I will be going to Festivus tonight. It is being held in Redlands, the city in which I live! The bar is about 5 minutes away from my house!

    Hey cbr600girl, did you make it out to Festivus on Saturday?
