All the articles you read … it comes down to personal preference, and your own body chemistry, and you won't know until you've tried.
I started with the PS multi–piece so I could use it in different rooms with different ceilings. It's a stainless 50mm, and I just bought a 45mm, because I've come to prefer them from using them at the studio. The studio uses Xpole chrome, and most competitions use 45mm chrome, so that was a consideration. One thing I noticed about the chrome is that it heats up more quickly, so if we were working on spins, the holding area became warmer faster than on the stainless, so I chose to go with stainless again. In winter I need to warm it with heater a little before I use it, but I've never had it get overly warm.
I don't enjoy brass as much as either stainless or chrome, but I've had the least experience on it. And it's high-maintenance to keep it looking polished and pretty.
Right now I'm VERY unhappy with PS customer service … they shipped the pole a week later than promised, and without the extension I needed, so I can't use it. So it will be more than 2 weeks later than promised, which was a consideration when I ordered. The PS is also easier to switch to spin than Xpole. I've had a lot of experience with the Xpole chrome in the studio and have no issues with it; going with stainless was a personal choice, and having the flexibility of multi-piece pole is important in my home.
I'm hoping I can sell the 50mm to a male poler, who might appreciate the extra dimension.

This was a fascinating exercise, I'm inspired to try it too!

I don't have stretch marks, but I do have C-section scar from navel down. I'd bought another romper, but either the top or the bottom didn't fit. Also, I've used a monokini, with shorts over, and sports bra under.

Check http://www.sweetvixencouture.com/
You have have it customized, for style and size, which is a big help if you're different sizes on top and bottom.
Certainly, Anastasia's was custom-made, not off-the-rack!

These are great, I've been asking our instructors to teach us more combos, and it really helps. Looking forward to some intermediate combos!

This last time, starting last summer, I realized much of my technique was poor, so I committed to learning things with correct technique, and on both sides. It does feel discouraging at times, but I know it's best for me in the long run.
I started going to the Pole 1 classes again last fall because there were new students in my age group — five women over 50! I still go to the occasional Pole 1 class if it falls between other classes I want to take, just to improve the fundamentals, and develop the finer points (the insturctors are stricter with me about pointed toes, keeping my shoulders back, all those bad habits!)
Each time I've had a setback, pole is the most fun way to measure my recovery! so I'm just grateful for what my body can do, instead of wasting energy on frustration.

The SV lessons are a wonderful resource for conditioning, stretching — not just for pole. They are a bargain!!! even if you go to a studio, it's like having a peronal tutor at home. I have learned so much from SV lessons, and they were very helpful when I was rehabbing from an injury (non-pole) … how to safely regain my strength.

It's a great idea!
Our Floorwork instructor had us each pick two numbers between 1 and 100 — she has a list of 100 floorwork moves!!! — and use those to develop our routine.

brilliant idea!

Yes, I told the instructors at my new studio, and they both signed on.
Veena is a terrici resource in many regards, it supplements what we learn in class, but doesn't replace classroom instruction (unless one has no access to classes). There's a wealth of information not just on pole moves, but conditioning, stretching … plus the community of other dancers!

Look at Veena strengthening/conditioning lessons … no weights required!
And treat yourself to a foam roller!

MemberOctober 31, 2012 at 1:08 pm in reply to: Music Suggestions of the Sensual KindWell now I realize my suggestions were obsolete, but I gotta say that my biggest problem in the studio is that I loathe so much of the music. I sound like my mother complaining about the music I listened to!!! but it's been 10 years since I had a member of the younger generation under this roof, and I didn't like that much, but after being entirely out of touch … whoa! however, there are a few newer performers that I can enjoy. I was real pleased that I finally got an Amy Whinehouse song, only to discover it's 10 years old, and I'd never heard her music before (it was on at the salon).
Still havent heard Justin Bieber, and in no rush …
Now that we have an over-50 quorum at the studio, we might be able to negotiate some new "old" music!
