Please remember we are our own worst critics!
You need to use what you see to your advantage though, continue to record practices and work on fixing some small points that need fixing. Just being able to DO a move isn't enough, you still need to perfect it. Without a mirror or camera, that is nearly impossible. Keep working at it, and if you're feeling brave post a video. No matter how bad you think it is, I guarantee that you will get positive support. Sometimes, knowing what other people see will help increase your confidence, making your moves look even better!

I saw a comment that included hot-knives! Lol, for anyone interested, spoons work better, your dope doesn't fall off as easily!
Beyond that I wanted to add that I love to stretch while stoned. 🙂 I am more relaxed and therefore can push farther without injury or discomfort. Also, I find it less boring. If you smoke anyway you should totally try it!

I turned 29 this summer and have never been stronger in my life! Since I started pole dancing 3 years ago, I have gotten stronger, more flexible, lost weight and inches, and overall I just feel better and more fit than I ever have (even though I was skinny as a teenager, I was very weak, and not really overall that fit). I figure since things have continued to improve instead of deteriorate over the last 3 years, I'm not going to worry about the next 3, or 5, or 10! I don't worry about how I'm supposed to feel or act as I approach 30, I just go with it. 🙂

Haha, I gotta say I LOVE this discussion.
Almost as much as I love my green! For me, smoking calms me down after a hectic day at work. I liken it to someone who comes home at 5 and drinks a beer (or wine) or two with dinner to relax. I am always sober when I work, and I have never been addicted. I can quit whenever I want for as long as I want (and I have multiple times in the past) and it doesn't bother me, but I'd rather have the fun of smoking. Alcohol leaves me with major headaches and hangovers, even when I am not overconsuming. Pot does leave me feeling a little lazy, but that's after a couple hours since smoking and it definitely doesn't put me out like drinking does.
I also agree with those who have said they'd rather hang out with pot smokers than drunks, way more fun to be around whether you are sober or not. 🙂
And it's true that it's not for everybody, some people don't react well to it and that's okay too. But like sensual I also believe that all drugs should be legal, people should have the choice about what to put in their bodies. Just like in the animal kingdom…survival of the fittest! If you put crap in your body and die, well, I hate to sound like a dick, but now that person can't pass on bad genetics/knowledge. We are the only species that puts major resources into protecting all the weaker individuals. I'm not saying that's always a bad thing, (I have a cousin with cerebral palsy, I'm glad people protected him and allowed him to grow up to be a productive member of society) but seriously, there is a limit to everything. The world is heavily overpopulated, and somethings got to give.
There are no easy answers here, but it's a great discussion! 🙂

I'm like RoseMay, I like to straddle out slowly. It takes some core strength and control, as well as hamstring flexibility will help. The act of lowering down slowly also is good practice and strengthening for being able to LIFT into the pose smoothly and slowly. 🙂

I'm in, I didn't do this last year although I creeped the threads/videos/pictures everyone put up. 🙂 I have a couple of Alethea's DVD's and have been trying to stretch a couple times a week with splits for Christmas already in mind. The trick for me is trying to do the routine more often, more consistently, and remembering to take and upload pictures every week. Even though I have been stretching for nearly a month already I will put up "starting" pics early next week! I want to see where everyone else is starting from too!

I couldn't lift both feet up off the ground when I started and I wasn't even a bigger girl! I literally just had ZERO strength in my upperbody. Try to focus on technique, and strengthening with basic spins and climbing and you will get there I promise. 🙂 In the meantime, there are tons of great transitions and floorwork to learn that will help keep you busy and improve your confidence on the pole.

Have you tried more than one entry method, I have seen it done 2 ways. First (and most common I think) from Brass Monkey – Eros – Janeiro This is how Veena did it it her recent video. Secondly from CKR/CLR – Bow and Arrow/Archer – Janeiro http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYESpVLx1bc to see what I mean. Now, I am nowhere near ready to try this move, but to me it looks easier from the CKR/CLR at least in theory…in my mind…but I don't see many people trying it this way so maybe I am dead nuts wrong! 😛

I have been paying for 2 months at a time…for nearly a year I believe…I think I need to just start paying for a year at a time. 🙂
Whichever length you choose, when it is over you will not be able to watch any lesson videos until you renew. The single month and 2 month option will automatically renew I believe (someone please correct me if that is incorrect), but the yearly one does not. There is tons of material in Veena's lessons, and they are more than worth the money you pay. Even as someone who has been poling for 3 years, there is still tons of stuff I can't do yet. And I have learned by now that when I want to learn a new trick, I watch Veena's lesson first! She breaks everything down, and even shows you how to try it from the floor whenever possible. She sets you up with the best possible chance for success.
Totally worth it! You will not regret it. 🙂

I didnt watch the whole thing, it is long! But forcing kids to practice something until they cry (and then asking for more) isn't helping them IMO! Worse than that is that I NEVER saw any positive reinforcement in the part that I watched, only negative. What they are doing is draining all the self-esteem out of these kids while at the same time, teaching them skills that they SHOULD be proud of. It doesn't make any sense to me, but the chinese DO have some of the top gymnasts and acrobatics in the world. I guess this is how they get them, but I don't know if it's worth it. I'd rather be the best I can be, even if that is not the best there is, at something I find enjoyable.
On the other hand, a great recreational program can be a lot of fun! I hope you do put your daughter in gymnastics, sounds like she will excel at it. 🙂

Have you tried it while spinning both directions? As in both clockwise and anti clockwise while using the same arm?
-
What a great idea! I am a member and think everyone should have Veena's lesson. 🙂 I will tell my students about this.

Recording practices is one of the best things you can do for yourself! First you're going to need a camera. I also recommend getting a tripod, there is nothing worse than pulling off a great move and then realizing your camera has fallen or been knocked over and captured nothing but the floor (or cat's butt). 🙂 Other than that, some editing software is helpful but not necessary, but if you really want some there are many free versions available for download online. As far as uploading videos goes it's pretty easy, select the "videos" link below the "StudioVeena.Com" header, click on "upload a video", select the file you want to upload, fill out your title and description while you wait, and tada! Just remember that the longer your video is, and the higher the resolution is, the longer it will take to upload. Also, for most uploads you don't need a high resolution at all.
Happy Videoing!

I think 2 months is pretty early to invert to be honest. I think I was about 3 months or so, AND I was doing it before I was ready. I didn't have the strength to do it properly and I'm lucky I didn't hurt myself. The worst I did was to create bad habits that I had to retrain later on. Take it slow and enjoy the journey. There is SO MUCH to learn without inverting. I have 2 students who just started inverting today. They have been taking lessons with me for just over 6 months. They both were able to invert (low to the ground and with a spot) sucessfully because they took the time to get there. I know how hard it is, but if you can stop stressing and worrying about it, it will come when you are ready. 🙂
