Sooooooooooo unproffesional!!!  Everything you said is waving big red flags for me.  She doesn't sound like someone I would want to take lessons from.

If you continue to take lessons, just be careful.  Don't do anything you don't feel ready for, but to be honest, I wouldn't waste my money!

Frowning, If you're still working on getting over that fear of handsprings/cartwheels why don't you try a gymnastics cartwheel outside in a grassy area.  It is a similar movement to the pole handspring/cartwheel in that you need to drop your head towards the ground, so that your legs can go up and over.  Try it a few times, they don't have to be beautiful, graceful, or perfect, but it will let you get the main points of the movement without fear of hurting yourself.  🙂

I think I have seen a video of Charley poling on stage with a band, I believe it was her boyfriend's band.  🙂  It was awesome!  My hubby plays guitar, and I have been trying to convince him to play while I dance to it since I first saw it!

Haha, great post!  Van Halen is awesome to dance too, but I also really love Soundgarden for heavier dancing music. 🙂

Better yet, post a vid of your attempts now.  You may get some tips that will help you get it before summer. 😉

I was going to suggest the same thing chemmie, I call it a "pole hold slide".  It's a great excersise for working on that perfect "goldilocks" hand grip; not too tight, and not too loose. 🙂

@Legend  We wish you hadn't listened to them either, you could have been here with the rest of us much sooner.  But I do understand, even my hubby thinks I shouldn't be taking gymnastics at my age.  I think he's worried I'm going to hurt myself.  To be honest, he's probably right, I'm just hoping that when it happens I'll heal quickly.  LOL  Oh well, at least he's supportive about pole.

I wish I had been taught how important being able to freestyle really is.  Also how to do basic pole moves correctly.  It's hard to re-learn something.

Veena just released a back mobility routine if you have her lessons!  I want to be able to do this again too, when I was little I could touch my toes to the end of my nose!  I remember thinking it was no big deal…damn it sure seems like a big deal now!

Charley is so fantastic!  Met her last summer at the michigan showcase, got dragged out to dance in the opening number, and got a birthday lapdance at the end by all the performers!  What a great show!

Wow, great challenge.  I love both yoga and pole.  I don't have any suggestions at the moment, but I can't wait to see the finished product!
