It's unforetunate that what is considered "normal" in dance schools nowadays is somehow okay, but what we do is clearly wrong and only appropriate for strippers. 🙁

Without knowing more about the injury and not being a doctor, I can't say for sure, but I would think it's just because you're so new to poling. Your hands are just not used to the new demands you have made of them, the good news is that they will get stronger the more you practice, just like that cello playing you love. 🙂 I'd wager when you started playing cello you couldn't play for long without your hands hurting, but with time and practice your fingers gained strength and now you can probably play much longer. Pole is no different. Don't give it up so soon, take some rest time away from the pole to heal up and hopefully you'll be stronger than before when you give it another go.

@ Princess,
Just to clarify, by Pike do you mean a pike hip hold? Because that's what I would suggest as well for anyone who doesn't like the gemini entry method. Give it a try Alesha and tell us what you think. 🙂

I agree with Sarah, I have nothing against MPDC but it is very intimidating. Even their amateur divisions seem like pros to me. I just want something near me (not the other side of the country) that I actually stand a chance of getting into!

Way to go girl! You'll be doing everything you could do pre-baby before you know it. 🙂

I wish there was a "like" button for Cocoa's comment about the moo-moos LOL

Okay, so no one can host an event called Miss Pole Dance _________ (insert province or territory name here). I really don't see that as an excuse for Canada to not have more competitions and showcases. For goodness sake, does no one have any creativity…all you need is a different name!

My X-pole has never left any kind of mark or indent on my ceiling. I have had it up for over a year now and taken it down a number of times without any problems. Now…I will admit that accidently kicking the ceiling with my shoes has left a few small black marks, but I'm pretty sure they would come off if I really tried to clean them. 🙂

Kids love this kind of thing…why do they make climbers in playgrounds out of metal poles??? I think it's great as long as you can take out the sexually explicit moves, and I saw nothing sexual in any of the photos shown in the article. If and when I do have children (boys or girls) I hope they will love to play on mommy's pole as much as I do.
To be honest, I found the picture of the little girl in makeup at the spa more disturbing!

LOL I can't wait to see that vid!
I forgot I wanted to tell my story of crossing the border to come down for the show. I don't know if any of the other Canadians had an interesting conversation at the border but my family did.
We drive up to the gate and it's a young, cute guy in the booth. He asks us where we're going and why we're coming down, so we tell him we're going to a dance show in Madison Heights. The next question of course is, what kind of dance? So we all chuckle and my dad says, well we were hoping you wouldn't ask that. Now the border guard is looking at us strange, like we have something to hide. So my dad tells him it's a pole dance show. His eyebrows go up and we get the typical, what? So my dad is telling him that we're all going down to the show for my birthday. The guy wants to know how we found out about something like this, so I tell him I'm part of a pole dance community online. He continues to ask us questions I don't think he believed us at first. So my dad tells him, look we can even give you the name of the bar if you want! And he says, it's at a bar! This just keeps getting better. How much does it cost to get in? LOL I told him it was free, I think if he didn't have to work he would have come! So after chatting a few more minutes he laughs and says, Well I'm pretty good at my job and I can usually tell if people are lying to me. But, I don't think you guys are lying about this one! So we drive away and my whole family is laughing our asses off. My mom says, I'd sure like to be a fly on the wall in the break room tonight. LOL The whole thing was hilarious, we had him completely stunned. He didn't know what to think about a whole family coming down from Canada to see pole dancing!

Yeah Runemist, congratz! I don't have anything to add that Holly didn't say or that's not covered in Veena's lesson but I just wanted to cheer you on. 🙂

Why don't you tell her to join Studio Veena? Then she can have all of us as friends/partners, and we can all have her too! 🙂

@kaygee10 I highly reccomend Veena's lessons! They will help you build strength and progress safely through beginner, intermediate, and advanced moves.
As to the original grip aid question, if you don't need any help yet don't worry about it. Many people, as you have seen throughout this topic, don't ever use grip aids so no, it is not a necessity.

I got a nasty comment once too. I checked the profile, they had no pics, no vids no nothing so I assumed TROLL and emailed Webby. He deleted the sucker! 🙂 No trollers allowed here!
I thought your vid was great by the way, I can only dream of having that kind of flow.
Thanks again to Webby and Veena for keeping this a supportive community!
