Okay, so the birthday mirror didn’t turn out as expected…
My dad was going to take me to the custom glass shop and have a mirror, of whatever size I wanted, cut for me. I was pretty psyched at this prospect…had been thinking about size and dimensions, planning out exactly what I wanted. Well, he was helping a friend of his move and the guy had a mirror that he didn’t want to take to his new place, so my dad got it for free and gave it to me. It’s not as big as I would have chosen, and slightly more squarish than I would have picked for myself, but it is acceptable. It will do for now, until I can save up some money and take myself down to the custom shop. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

It’s all politics over royalties and ownership. Basically, if an artist wanted to, they could tell StudioVeena to stop allowing their music to be posted on the site, and if SV didn’t comply, they could be sued.
The thing is, SV is relatively small compared to YouTube so it’s not as much of a threat (also there’s no money to win in a potential lawsuit). So enjoy the opportunity here, and if you want to post on YouTube as well, you just have to pick your music wisely (see above post for record labels).

Poledancefan sent this to me and I will repost here to pass the info along. YouTube is not completely hit or miss, there is plenty of music that is allowed. But remember these are just guidelines, an artist can choose to have their music removed if they want, whether YouTube normally allows it or not. Hope this helps
All Warner Music remains strictly off limits on You-Tube–they are still in a nasty fight over royalties and will supress any WMG product you upload because Warner essentially "Infringement noticed" each and every piece of Warner music ever written, so You-Tube is obligated by law to remove it or be liable to a lawsuit.
Performers retain the right to electronically "Infringement notice" any particular thing they please, EVEN IF they are a partner company. Most rock bands don’t do it….except a few…ha ha like PRINCE, lol! He is famous for his petty lawsuits against You-Tube, so they usually just take his sound away…even the little 3 year old girl shrieking 3 1/2 seconds of Little Red Corvette inthe bath-tub got the sound turned off. Everybody is afraid of Prince, lol!
By way, CAPITOL-EMI is also a partner of You-Tube. They are tiny little players, nowadays–but some of the old, good stuff is on CAPITOL- EMI !

I think a standard X-pole in your garage would be ideal…I agree with the board across three beams. But stage poles definitely have their uses (they can go literally anywhere, indoors, outdoors, under drop ceilings etc.) and if you are looking at them, check out platinum stages as well as the X-pole. I have never used one, but it has a very low profile base, very stable at the top (as far as I can see from watching others), and is supposed to be much lighter and easier to move than the X-pole. It has spinning as well as static mode (converts with just the pull of a pin), you can get extensions to make it taller than the standard 8′, and I may be wrong but I believe the base is made of a hard plastic instead of metal so it should (in theory) be a little easier on the knees. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I say take a class, EVERYONE goes to their first class a little nervous/shy and not really sure what to expect. Then once you know you’re as addicted as you think you’ll be then buy a pole. It shouldn’t cost a lot to take a taster (even if you try out a few studios in your area), and once you make friends with some of the other people at a studio you’ll really enjoy the social aspect. Since I don’t have any friends that are really interested, that’s something I really miss since I stopped taking classes and started working at home only.

All of those moves require you to put weight on your wrist with it bent back at 90 degrees, don’t forget to stretch your wrists out the other way before and after. I used to have the same problem but pole has really strengthened my wrists and it doesn’t seem to bother me very much anymore. Although I still prefer elbowstands to handstands for that very reason.

In full view of my back sliding glass door (when the curtains are open). My neighbours, family, friends, and every salesperson/survey/volunteer organization that comes to my door sees my pole! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif I’ve always been a bit of an attention sl*t https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_queen.gif Probably why I was instantly hooked on pole!

Nothing wrong with being short, I can’t quote her exact height but many of the best pole dancers around the world are teeny-tiny. Just look at Felix!!!

It’s really all about consistency. Do yoga (I highly suggest going to a qualified instructor rather than yoga DVD’s or books), buy a book ("genius of flexibility" is a good one), get stretching tips from the internet, whatever method you use it will only really work if you do it consistently. And by consistently I mean every day, or every other day at least! If you’re dedicated, you will start to see results very quickly! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Be careful though, it is very easy to push too far. Only push until you feel a gentle pull, if you’re in too much pain to hold be able to hold it for 5 mins you’re probably overdoing it (I’m not saying to actually hold a stretch for 5 mins, just a guidline for how ‘far’ to stretch, you know?).

Don’t let yourself get so frustrated, when I started last summer I had NO upper body strength and couldn’t lift my feet up off the ground either! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif Most of us (except some of those with gymnastics/dance/previous weight training experiences) start out the same way. Just keep trying! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Once the muscles start to develop, you’ll be amazed at how fast you can progress.
Oh, and the wrist seat is not an easy move! It requires A LOT of grip strength, even after nearly a year of pole dancing, my wrist seat is only finally coming to a point where I can count on it! I used to be able to get into the position easily enough, but would just slide down the pole. Only lately has my grip been strong enough that I have been able to keep the height.
You will get there, just don’t give up. Don’t get frustrated, just have fun, laugh at yourself a little. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif If you don’t keep it fun, it will be hard to stick with it long enough to develop the strength required to get better!
Oh and just so you know, once you do get past this hurdle (because we all know you will) there will be another one, and another one, and another one. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif It really never ends. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
Good luck! -

it is a nice feeling when a guy comes up to you who is dressed ( i https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_study.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_shaking2.gif didn’t strip) and tells you your beautiful and he would rather watch you dance than girls just walk around w/o clothes. i was thinking seriously?? me? not the model looking girl w the perfect body?
Awe, that is really sweet. And must have made you feel incredible! I would love to have the opportunity to try something like that, but I don’t know if I’d be able to let go enough to actually do it! Good for you! -
Take the screws with you to your local hardware store, you should be able to buy them. They shouldn’t be expensive or anything.

Pulling with your top hand and pushing the pole with your bottom hand -elbow locked.
Just a cautionary note, watch that locked elbow, you don’t want your elbow to be hyper-extended with your weight on it. You can do some serious joint damage, including dislocation…ouch!
