I did pole dance while I was pregnant. I kept inverting until about 6-7 months. Talk to your doctor about it and listen to your body.

I tell myself that performing is just like teaching pole class so there should be nothing to be nervous about.

I was really excited about going. Unfortunately with competitions taking place on 2 days and the increased admision price I doubt I will be attending.

@ Thank you for your answer. We were just trying to see if one way was more standard than another, or if one variation had another name. I've never personally had a problem doing a CAR. I hold the pole right above my ankles. It is good to know that people use all three variations and all are acceptable.

I have a question for you ladies. We were having a discussion in studio today about where the pole rests/what grips the pole when in a CAR. Looking at some of your picks it seems you hold the pole with your upper thighs, other photos the pole is gripped just above or below the knees and when I do it the pole rests against my ankles. Are all of these correct methods, or is one recommened above the other?\

    Thanks for any input.

    Hey Ladies,
I am also a Wisconsin Pole Dancer and Studio Owner. I previously taught at Miss Pole and recently ventured out on my own. My studio is called Aerial Bliss and is located on the west side of Madison. The website is http://www.aerialbliss.com if any of you want to check it out. I agree with Flexx that large classes are not safe and students don’t get proper supervision. I think small and fabulous is the way to go, especially with more advanced moves. Keep poling everyone.

I’m amazed your insurance agent could even give you a quote. It is very hard to find insurance to cover pole instructors to begin with. I knew someone who was teaching independently, but couldn’t find insurance because she wasn’t using permanently installed poles. Good luck https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Well I never said it wasn’t a legitimate option…but see that’s the point. If you don’t talk to someone who knows what the difference is AND how it applies to a pole studio.

The benefits of being an LLC are irrelevant for most pole studios and there is NO difference in how you’re taxed or payed if you set up correctly as a corporation.

So many new businesses get steered into being an LLC, which costs MUCH more than Inc, etc and yet they don’t need to spend that money. Plus renewal remains higher for an LLC so you keep spending more each time your renewal comes up.

This is why reading books, or reading online or going to someone who is not a financial consultant may be misleading.
Empyrean, is there any other reason you don’t like LLC as an option? I did a quick check in with an accountant to see what having a tax return done for an S-Corp. would be and she advised me "I would encourage you to look at other types of entity choice to keep your paperwork requirements lighter at the beginning of your business endeavor."
Thanks for any input you have.

Any body actually read this or have it?

I’m wondering if its actually full of good info and worth the money, or if i’d be extremely disappointed…

I have it. There is definitely some good info in there as well as some I don’t really agree with. I think it was worth buying though.

I get my personal liability through a division of West Bend Mutual insurance. I think the studio I work for gets insurance there as well, but I’m not positive. I’m looking forward to others answers on this topic.

Thanks…my apologies…my husband did correct me on that but I neglected to edit the post to indicate that some states are different.
No worries. It was stil a good thing to make myself and others aware of the potential cost differences between setting up as a corporation versus an LLC.
