If you have a really old house (mine is 80 yrs old) you’ll have a lot of trouble finding studs because they used different construction methods back then.

If your crossbeams are narrow and your xpole top can reach both of them, then do that. If the beams are further apart, you should center onto one beam. The idea is to give your pole the most support and keep it from warping the ceiling.

I’ve studied with S Factor in California. I HIGHLY recommend it as a starting point. It’s awesome for building sensuality, comfort with your own body, and learning floor/chair/wall work (something few studios/videos teach) in additional to pole. However, I feel that there are better options for learning advanced moves and pole tricks – so once you’re comfortable with the pole, it would make sense to try videos and/or other studios.

Try an S intro class (they’re regularly $40 but often marked down to $20) and use that to help make your decision.

I’ve been to 5 different studios and 3 have a move, each of them different, that they call a Flamingo. One is a spinning, under arm, turn (one knee bent, like a flamingo). Another was the previously mentioned pole over. The third was some kind of spin (which I can’t remember – meaning I probably couldn’t do it).

I recommend writing to the person who posted to see which move she was describing.

I had a similar issue. The pop happened during class warmup but the pain came later. I got xrays and was told there was no break. What I didn’t know, till a month later, was that the urgent care center called back the next day and said there was a possible separation in my wrist. By the time I got that message, my wrist felt okay – but now it "cracks" (like cracking knuckles) daily and my chiro "adjusts" it on every visit because it’s never in the joint correctly.

I HIGHLY recommend you see a doctor. 10 weeks of pain is not anything minor. You may have a fracture. Or maybe you’ll be lucky and it will just be out of joint – something a good chiro might be able to fix for you.

Has anyone tried surf board wax? It comes in a variety of consistencies and I thought it might work.

I know a dancer who uses generic, over the counter, antiperspirant on her hands.

I think I’ve been through every gripping assistant there is. I really the stuff sold by Bobbi’s Pole Studio (UK) – but only on my legs. Spray glue (often sold relabeled as a grip) tends to work pretty well. For people with less slip than me, rockclimbing ECOballs, from REI are good. For me, the only solution was GOLF GLOVES… they’re super thin and bought for only 1 hand at a time – so I have twice as many for my dominant hand as for my non-dom. Evertan makes a great line of women’s golf gloves with designs and the entire back is breathable. They’re super pricey ($16.95 per glove) but a nice change from boring white.
