Oh, I can SO relate! I keep "starting over" on pole due to a variety of reasons, none of them particularly valid. Once again I am going to head back to the basic strength and flexibility lessons on SV, work on a few very basic pole moves, and move forward from there. My fitness goals for the winter include a lot of running, yoga/pilates and pole. Happy to be a motivation buddy https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif!

The person that helped me put my pole up for the first time sanded the popcorn so it is a smooth surface. It's barely noticeable when the pole is down, but I can see it and that way I know exactly the right spot when I put it back up. I hate cottage cheese ceilings but unfortunately it's pretty far down on the list of home improvements for now : ) .

Love this, count me in. Still thinking about goals, but I know I want to devote more time to pole practice, eat healthier, and get stronger (still rehabbing from injury ) this summer. Losing some weight and building strength should make a huge difference!

Doanything, I can so relate to your post. I went through menopause in my mid 40's (am 51 now) and it was a bitch! Have been struggling with my weight ever since…especially the dreaded middle age gut . I took up pole last fall, and was a very slow progressing beginner until an injury forced me to take a couple months off, so now I'm in starting over mode. I loved my studio classes and plan to go back to them soon, but sometimes it can get discouraging because, no matter how hard we try, it's really a struggle not to compare oneself to others. I checked out your profile and it looks like you have a pole at home, yay! I would suggest using Veena's lessons and focusing on the strength, flexibility and floor/transition work at home to complement your classes. When I am at home and not surrounded by my beautiful young skinny classmates and/or multiple images of myself in mirrors (like at the studio) it seems much easier to relax and enjoy the "sexy" moves….sometimes I actually start to feel a little sexy : ) . I think it's awesome that you are taking up pole as you head into your fifties. It won't come as easy as if you had done it in your twenties or thirties, it is a HARD sport and so you will need to be patient with yourself but I truly believe you will see immense physical and emotional benefits (this is a good pep talk for myself too!). If you want an online buddy for support in weight loss and poling goals, let me know ) ! All the best to you!

I started poling at age 50. I was just a tad worried about my parents' reaction, as they are in their 80's and I've learned that there are some things they just seem pretty set in their ways about. For them I stressed the fitness aspect and my mom (bless her heart) googled and found some pics of really amazing strong athletes doing advanced pole stuff. If that's how she pictures me, that's cool. Especially since I have been injured and am currently dabbling in burlesque https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif. As far as everyone else goes, I really could give a rat's ass what they think. That's part of the beauty of living for a half century. Pole on, everyone! xo

Hi all. I hate my hair and always wish it could be longer/thicker/wavier etc. But…just got home from meeting up with my best friend who has always had fabulous hair. She is going through chemo and after a little over a week from her first treatment she had lost so much hair she had it shaved off. Just a reality check .My friend and all of you are beautiful. Enjoy your hair however it is !

Thanks JeHanne and Krissykiki! I really appreciate your thoughts and will re-read them when I need a boost. It is so easy to fall into the trap of comparing oneself with others. The studio where I've been learning is very performance based and maybe that is not the best fit for me as it seems to put extra pressure on to learn and execute the same moves as my classmates. I will most definitely keep at it and continue to use all the Veeners for inspiration https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif .
