i would get the same pain and i complained to a teacher friend once. they told me that you need to have your front quad engaged, with your hips square, back straight (not arched), and ribs lifted, or else you are not isolating the stretch in your back hip and are stretching the back of the front knee instead. this makes a lot of sense to me, and since i started practicing my stretches this way, i found that i stopped having that pain.
Thanks https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif I will try it tomorrow. EvaRut, I can’t believe just one missed day would make a difference https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif You will definitely make it in time for the competition though

I have always wanted to get into splits but never been able. I got into Battle of the pole recently wich is held on january 22. And splits are required in the routine. So 4 weeks ago I started doing the Splits in 6 weeks program and adding some other stretches and I have made some great progress. I stretch for about 40-60 minutes 6 times a week. I have been sore in my hips and feet almost constantly since I began stretching. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif
I always forgot to take photos before I Started stretching but here’s how far I got last night right after an hour of stretching. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
I like your splits https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif You are so close, don’t give up! I hope I can reach at that point in 4 weeks too!

I started the 6 weeks splits programme yesterday, but I can’t find a measuring tape (how do you measure how far you are from the ground anyway? Do you do it by yourself or does somebody help you?) and the camera I want to use is at my bf house. I’ll borrow it Saturday/Sunday, if I remember. I wasn’t sore this morning, maybe because I walked for 15minutes after doing the stretches, but it felt harder to do today than it did yesterday. I thought I would try front splits as well and it was like they were killing me.
One question: when I do some of the stretches, I feel like I stretched some muscles at the back of my knee as well. Is this normal? I feel it especially when I just did a stretch, get up, start walking and bend my knees. I haven’t started poling and won’t be starting for a long time so I’m trying to do the little that I can do without a pole.

I loved it. I like that song too, I heard on pretty little liars

Oh my goodness, you just brought up bad childhood memories…I totally forgot but I was the same when I was younger!!!! I use to dance but absolutely hated stretching especially when I saw my cousin progressing faster than me. Urgh! After that, I had such a grudge against stretching that during my days of competitive swimming whenever I had any sore muscles I wouldn’t stretch them out even when I knew it would work. I would rather take the pain for days than endure stretching for couple minutes. It might sound strange but to me it was like "Ha, stretching I don’t need you" kind of attitude. Man am I a kid or what https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif I haven’t started poling yet but when I do I hope I don’t feel the same about stretching. Obviously this isn’t my forte so I can’t give advice on it but I wish you luck!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_salut.gif I’ll be watching the forum for advice for myself https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

empress, you should look for arnica based creams/gels or for traumeel. i know both are readily available online but i’m not sure what hte shipping options are for jamaica! both are great for bruising– they are both homeopathic remedies but if you apply them right when you feel a bruise forming, the bruise will be less severe and fade faster.
Yeah, hopefully I can get a couple shipped down. If not, I would have to use MailPac…for a price, you get to use their US address so the people would send it to there (in Miami I think). From there, MailPac will send it down to Jamaica where you can pick it up at one of their offices. But I think the former will be cheaper so I will check it out. Thanks https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Sigh, just got home and having a headache but I really appreciate all this advice.

They have arnica gel at GNC in UES for $2 rather than the branded arnica gel for $7-10. Works the same for me.
Oddly I found the reversital microdermastick worked better and faster than arnica. It’s not even meant for bruises. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
You’ll learn control after a while and the bruises will lessen. Though there are bruises you can’t avoid like the inner thigh one after the allegra.
What is UES and GNC? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif If I can’t find Arnica here in Jamaica I might find something else. But Ihope I do find it because it keeps getting recommended by pole dancers

The tail spin is similar however BOTH hands are above the pole.
O ok, thanks for educating me https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Found the wrist sit! Yes I can see how it can happen for that too, especially going into it, because theyjumped and then crossed their legs. I couldnt find the tail spin

"Arnica Montana" is a homeopathic remedy for bruising that may be taken topically or orally. I use it and prefer the topical cream. It totally works! especially if you apply it as soon as possible… after you are done poling, of course.
I buy mine from Whole Foods- I think you can find it in any store that sells pharmaceuticals.also- one of the last times i did a wrist sit, when i opened my legs, my weight shifted weird and the pole kinda "got familiar" with my "kitty". i did not bruise, (i immediately "aborted mission") but i can see the possibility of a bruise happening there…
excuse my obnoxious use of quotations in this posting…
https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gifI heard about that cream. I hope its in JA, I can think of some pharmacies that might have it (but these pharmacies are "uptown" and "uptown" = expensive). Still havent looked up the wrist sit…had a class today. But I swear Ill look it up soon. Hm, Im here wondering why I dont call it "kitty." Lol. My name for it changes because I cant find a satisfactory one LOL LOL. And some raw names I cant say because apparently I say them weird and people love to point that out to me https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif

You might want to invest in one of these:
No, my husband doesn’t beat me
Cute, explanatory…I like it!

Haven’t had problem in the "she" area, haha However, bruising is a part of poling for most, if not, all polers; especially when learning new spins/tricks. I’ve had some minor to what could be heavy bruising, skin burn, etc. At first, I was like OMG no one can see this! But due to weather, was not able to wear clothing to cover it. I learned to wear them proudly as eventually the result is an accomplishment. There was a time or two where my hubby and I both realized people would wonder and/or assume how I got them, but oh well https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Once you start poling, and start having fun, you might even enjoy them. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
I plan to wear them proudly…under covered clothes lol. As in, I hear they are your badges of honour https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_salut.gif and man I just cant wait, even if it means that. And I will show them off!!! But strangers on the road, I dunno…dont want my bf to be put in a bad light. But like you said, the weather doesnt allow covering up. I live in JA wheres its summer all year around and I sweat easily. Hm, something I have to think about. Still excited, even though its a couple years away https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

Yeah the inverted thigh hold (if I’m thinking about the right thing) looks like it could affect that. But I’ll be careful. I don’t know the tail spin and wrist seat https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif so ima look that up now. I’m pretty excited to do pole dancing because its so interesting, there are so many different aspects to it and you can make it whatever you want! (getting excited again) https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif . Im a black girl so Im hoping that that means the bruises wont show up too much, I dont want people to think he did it to me https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pale.gif . Anyhoo, if they do show Ill just wear clothes to cover them til they go away!! But nightly activities cannot be interrupted!
Thanks guys for helping me https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Lol thank you! Now I’m sure my boyfriend would be happy to hear that!!

Thank you! Ok so I’ll be careful when I start…I thought bruising of the wrist was a pole dancer’s trademark??? But not complaining!!
