More for those of us without a pole. I love the idea of floor flow or chair for beginners. I’m sure you already have a lot of these that I just haven’t checked out!

These uninformed, close-minded, people need to open their eyes to the athleticism it takes to do even the basic moves on or around the pole. I had the same response from many people when they found out I was doing “that kind” of fitness. I have the most encouraging and wonderful polestructors and pole mates. It makes me sick when I mention my means of getting in shape, and immediately I become a slutty stripper with no morals or or care. Come on people,
I am 58 years old, and I hardly have a body that needs to be exposed in public. I chose pole fitness, for just that, FITNESS! I have never sweat so much, had so many bruises, and soreness, and burned so many calories in my life. I LOVE every second of it and wonder why I didn’t start earlier?!?! I do feel empowered by the smallest accomplishment. I find myself standing up straighter, walking with purpose, and being a bit more outgoing. Where is the raunchiness in that?! Sure, I do feel different when I put on my “dance” shoes, but I am hardly strutting my sexiness. I am doing what feels right for me. Does that mean I think of the pole as a giant “joy stick”, of course not. I think of the pole as a tool, a tool that allows me to do amazing things, just as a pencil allows an architect design fabulous homes and buildings. People need to venture out of their comfort zones and take off their blinders and see how breathtaking and artistic these women and men truly are.
I could go on forever, but I think I have expressed my feelings!!!

Chair and pole would be super fun. I have passed my 1 year poleversery and am still a rank beginner with zilch for upper body strength!!! I love the sport and will take every accomplishment with a smile! I LOVE Studio Veena. I am hoping to get serious, soon, and begin a 30 day program.

I ordered from that crash mat through Amazon Prime, gotta love it. I ordered the pink one and it is truly pink. My color choices were pink and blue only. At my skill level, any color would have been fine. I have mine on a X-Pole stage and it fits great. It is easier on the body than the metal, I speak from experience. I hope this helps with your decision.

September 18, 2015 at 4:22 pm in reply to: Introversion and Pole

I am a bit introverted also. I am slow to catch on to routines and find myself shutting down quickly. I will often video a class and try to learn at home. I went to my first class in yoga pants and a t shirt. It took quite a while, but now I wear a loose tank and booty shorts!!! I am extremely self conscience of my mid section. This week, during a very small class of 4, I attempted a leg hang. I reluctantly had to roll up one side of my tank to get better contact. I nearly cried, it was so traumatic. My fellow polers were so nonjudgemental! I did the hang and have a lovely poll kiss to prove it. I must be the luckiest poler on the world because I have amazing and supportive polestructors as well as fantastic classmates. I love that the studio uses low light. There is so much positiveness for every accomplishment, big or small. All of this combined has helped this 57 year old come out of my introverted shell. Who knows, someday, I may even shed my tank to expose more of me and the fabulous “bondage”, (yes, thats really the style name!!!) strappy top Im saving 🙂

Thank You so much for this. I see myself in nearly all of the responses!!! I am 5’9″ and 185. The only thing I don’t have is large boobs!!! One more strike, I began poling in January at the ripe old age of 56. My instructors, AKA, the pixies,Stealth Ninja, and Warrior Princess, are so amazingly patient, positive and supportive. I am learning to not compare my progression with others in my class even though it is very difficult. I still don’t invert without help, but I am able to climb, sit, and a few others. I truly struggle with self-conscienceness, shyness, and the total lack of anything “sexy” in my being!! The last will need a lot of work. I so enjoy my daily dose of Veena and watching/reading everything. I am so glad that “Hooked on Pole” introduced me to this wealth of information, and bases her fundamentals class by “The Method”.

I live in California and have a stage pole that I leave set up most of the time. I do bring the pole inside a screened porch when the weather looks damp. Once the pole has been removed, the stage gets covered with a tarp and I have had no problems. To add more protection, I put a plastic container over where the pole slips into the stage. It’s a bit hokie, but it works!!! There is something wonderful about poling outside!

I am dealing with the same issue. I have a new X-pole (stage) and slip off of it no matter what I do/try!!! I do love Dry Hands, its amazing. I’ll try the vinegar mixture. Hairspray has crossed my mind to tell you the truth!!! I am a RANK beginner at this pole fitness, but I love it. I go to a wonderful studio with incredible instructors. The positive atmosphere is so good for the attitude and I forget about the slipping, bruises, and lack of strength!!! I want to be able to practice and somewhat conquer new moves at home so when I go to class, (which I might add, has the stickiest poles ever) I’m not such a klutz!! Any more ideas will be greatly appreciated!!!

I’m not really sure where where to post my question!! I just recently invested in a stage pole. It is super slick! I have only been able to stretch and do some basic spins on it. It is nearly impossible for me to hang on it and climbing is impossible. I am a 56 year old rank beginner. How can I take to slick and change it to stick?? I would appreciate any advice.
