I’ve just started learning on my right side and boy is it hard! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

I was so frustrated at first, I feel likea total beginner again, but I am getting there. I can get into a copter without hooking my leg now. It’s not pretty, and it’s not balanced, but I can do it. It’s just a case of keeping on trying. It’s scary how much ‘core’ strength I am lacking on the other side because I’ve not been practising it. Am determined to get it though. Spinning scorpios and holly drops are going to elude me til I get it.

Try it from a Bow and Arrow. I found it much easier to do it this way.

You might want to look at this vid I did of it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Some X Poles spin slow, some spin fast… I have a suspicion it’s to do with the precise angle it’s put up at. So, if you take it down (or just loosen it) and re-seat it then tighten it up again, it might make a difference.

Mine used to spin ultra-fast when it was new and is now fairly reasonable – but I don’t know if that’s just because I can control it more now!

Actually at the moment mine is stopping half way and then wanting to go the other way when I spin it by hand, so I should take my own advice and re-seat it…. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

    I love my tiny boobs
    I love my sexy bum!
I also love my back, it looks nice and thanks to pole it actually has muscles.
I also love my abs and am working on making them more visible https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Mine’s doing the same thing and I KNOW that it’s because the dome wasn’t level on the ceiling. I need to take it down and re-seat it.

Equally overtightening can cause this, especially if as you say it looks bowed.

Take it down, put it up again properly, making sure the dome is level (they say this is more important than the pole being perfectly straight – a level might tell you the pole is straight but that might make the dome not evenly placed on the ceiling!) and see how it goes. Only if that doesn’t sort it might you start thinking its faulty. Good luck https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Oh also make sure the adjuster screw (bewteen the dome and the pole) isn’t out more than the recommended 5 inches too.

    I was having this problem.
I managed a reasonable pole session the other night:

I moisturised with non-oily body lotion in the morning (over dry skin won’t grip) (don’t moisturise directly before a pole session though!), cleaned the pole with vodka, put the gas heater on in the room (works better than electric) and warmed myself up then the pole with some spins. After an hour the pole was too warm and I was slipping because of that https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
I know, it’s really frustrating. But work on some things that are do-able with a slippy-ish pole and then after you’ve warmed it up some of the other things might be more manageable.

There was a link on here awhile ago to a youtube video explaining how some people were physically unable to do a sm? Something about the way the tendons and muscles were aligned. Maybe they don’t want people to feel bad if they can’t…. I say grab a friend, veena’s lessons, and practice at home. Spotter and correct instruction, all in one go https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
I think that was from Melissa at Samsara Studio, she knows a lot about the detail of anatomy etc. I think she said she can do a SM but won’t because her body isn’t made that way and she could damage it.

Agree, saying a SM is dangerous full stop is a little silly. Of course it’s risky but then most pole moves are in varying degrees. Sounds like the studio isn’t happy to take the risks of someone falling or isn’t confident in it themselves.

But, even though I’ve put on about half a stone, my clothes now fit me better and I feel like I have lost inches – I am hoping the weight gain is due to muscle https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif It’s great tho when you can see what a difference it has made to your shape. I am much more confident now than I was just a year ago and can see I look better than I did before.

According to those stupid weight to height ratios I am apparently verging on the overweight, but that must be the biggest load of tosh (unless I have a skewed vision of what I look like). All those weight charts and telling you what you should and shouldn’t look like is the biggest pile of rubbish going – I know people need guidelines, but some of those things are ridiculous. You should be happy with your body – whatever the shape or size – as that is part of you so therefore it deserves to be loved https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif (rant over!)

    Absolutely!!
I don’t go so much on what I weight but whether my clothes fit.
BMI calculators are for ‘normal’ people. Bodybuilders who are all muscle will be technically overwieght. I don’t know if carrying that extra weight, even if it is muscle, carries the same risks as carrying extra weight in fat, but anyone who’s building that kind of muscle should know the health issues associated with their sport anyway. Not that we are bodybuilders ! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_twisted.gif

Adding in any decent exericse to your routine will help you lose weight even if you don’t change your eating habits. Doing both = much better results. Just changing your eating habits with no extra exercise doesn’t work as well (I believe). So, pole is good! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I dropped a stone in about 4 months from starting pole (2-3 times a week) combined with a homeopathic diet (to help my depression as opposed to intending to lose weight) which involved cutting out wheat and sugar. I now swear by cutting out wheat combined with exericse, along with drinking 2l of water a day if I want to lose some weight (I’m someone who regularly swings between 9 and 10 stone so I’m not overweight but I’m not skinny either).

THere’s a girl at my pole school who started pole size 22 (UK) and is now a 16 and all she changed was pole dancing. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

    Woohoo!

    New video here https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Well, following some excellent advice here (notably, armpit grip, extending the body more) I seem to have made some real progress on this at last. Thank you!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I’m still finding it painful on my thigh but now I’ve gotten over my mental block with this move and I know I can do it, as with everything the pain will lessen with practise.

Thank you so much for all the advice, it’s really been what’s helped me crack this move. It’s so obvious now what I was doing wrong but sometimes it needs someone else to look at it objectively to point it out.

Yay! Glad that vid helped. I thought of it when I read your OP.

That grip is good – you also mentioned a bow/bridge in your OP and I was playing around with this the other day and noticed that as I can down off a bow, I ended up in that hand grip (and dismounted in a similar way to the vid but with noticeably less grace https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif). So I think all in all there are a number of variations on your dream to work on. I look forward to seeing some videos of folk trying it (I’m way off that standard yet) https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I’m useless about outfit suggestions… other than wear something you are comfortable in. If you’re uncomfortable in your outfit it will likely show through in the photos. If you don’t want to show your tum why not try a corset?

Do your more advanced moves first – doing a photoshoot is actually hard work, and you don’t want to tire yourself out doing pretty ‘spin’ type poses (and holding them in position does get tiring!) and then have no energy for the inverted stuff https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif You can pose about upright afterwards and it won’t matter that you’re tired out from advanced moves.

Also give some thought to your facial expression – it’s hard to smile all the time ( https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif ) but be aware and try not to grimace no matter how much it hurts https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_twisted.gif Lots of my photos I have this intense look of concentrations https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
