I have a recurring dream about doing the splits and I’ve had it since I was a child!
I’ve never been able to do them. Actually, I did it once, I was in dance class aged about 13 and I dropped too heavily and bounced into them but never again https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
But anyway, I’d love to be able to do the splits and I just haven’t found the motivation to stretch regularly. I guess winter doesn’t help!
This is an old photo (late 2008 I think) and I’m a little further than this now once I’m properly warmed up and have done specific stretches. I’m left handed and left leg leading is much better than right.
Box splits? Don’t make me laugh https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_twisted.gif

I know I’m fairly new here but still want to offer my best wishes for an extra speedy and uneventful recovery!!
Likewise https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
Take it easy, look after yourself and I hope you recover soon https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif -
I had something very similar and the doctor basically said it was nerve pain and to just avoid the movement that triggered the pain (which was ok as it was only one specific movement). I haven’t experienced it in months now (and had forgotten about it til I read this thread).
I don’t know much about anatomy etc so I’d just say rest it and if it keeps doing it see a doctor.

I’m just so pleased I found something so so god for me and so enjoyable as well. I like exercise but never found anything interesting enough to stick with until this, so I was delighted!

I can see what you mean here… I can certainly see Jenyne or Felix being able to do this https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
If you go into a pencil and lean out, and stall with your body horizontal, is this kind of what you’re talking about? And then a fall from this back onto the pole? I know a bow and arrow fall is possible, and then re-seat and lay back and repeat… sounds advanced and do-able.
As to the dreaming, yes, sometimes I pole in my dreams https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Wow! Well done! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
I had a little (and I mean little!) play earlier and I can’t get my legs up at all, so this is probably something to bookmark for another day.
I tried the wrist seat thing and – like someone else said earlier, I got it first time then couldn’t do it again https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Ah yeah https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
I was on my mobile phone so not so easy to go back and check while posting!Winter is causing havoc here with poling, I might have to sit this one out til my pole has some sensible level of grip. Really happy to have some new ideas to try and crack this one though https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
Thanks again https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Thank you all https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
Its so obvious now its pointed out to me! Yes, I’m not getting the armit grip, I’m just trying to tale my hands off; no wonder it isn’t working.
Also yes I can see my positioning needs adjusting… I will give this all another go and report back https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gifRe the foot hooking thing: I can manage without. I heard it can damage the cruciate ligaments in the knee ( which I think is what Empy is saying) though its interesting to hear your take on it Veena. I think for me to be on the safe side I will try not to wrap my foot as knowing me I’d do it the wrong way!

No it won’t always hurt https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
Its never going to feel wonderful and there may well still be some discomfort – but it really does get manageable https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gifAs your body gets used to it it will improve. Also. Once you’ve mastered a move your body will be in the right place and your muscles will be stronger so that makes it more comfortable!
Hope that helps https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

Wowee! Stunning pics!

Thanks georgiamarie, love your pics too!
Especially the cross knee release one – don’t know if I’d be brave enough to try it on a street pole (though I guess as per normal you either know or you don’t before you lay back if it’s going to work or not! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif ) -
Yeah I’ve got loads of ideas from this vid! I want to try the wrist sit…. and the 5:08 spin is pretty, I do it occasionally but can’t get the height she does, often my bottom foot is nearly at the floor. Something else to practise! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif
Thanks for the tips Steph. I can touch my toes… but that’s pretty much as far as it goes, I’m not that flexible. Might not be enough (am thinking normal splits vs jade)? I can’t get my head round why a teddy is necessary? I don’t have a problem with no handed (lol typo https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif ONE handed!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_twisted.gif ) spins, but haven’t bothered trying any armpit grip moves.
I can’t wait to get back on the pole, its FREEZING here and I daren’t take any clothes off for fear of frostbite https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

You do need ab strength and you cannot "fling" into the position – nor can you drop your arms. PoleGirlSonia had a student not listen to her about that and dislocated ribs – you have been warned.
This is such a fab thread.
Rouge LAmour, please can you explain what you mean by ‘drop your arms’?
