upon further consideration, I think I would LOVE it if farting on my own head was a very real risk for me — what a GREAT problem to have!

OMG had to reply again bc @Cantetinza17 that is hilarious and wise advice indeed from your young classmate, u had me LOL… other random things this made me think of in terms of sticker / t-shirt graphics: 26.2, 13.1, 0.0 (my favorite, so hilarious but obviously a jab at the higher numbers — but are the higher #s a snub at those who have not run any such distance? or just pride…?)… yoga pose silhouettes, bicycles (my husband is to cycling what we are to pole — maybe worse), “namaste”… republican, democrat, green… my school ur school (primary, college, etc)… rainbow flags, “coexist”… wow the list goes on… maybe this just all boils down to “this is my identity — this is what I stand for”…?

haha, on that note, “wag more, bark less” 🙂

I think this is great! by this, I mean the whole discussion. It’s exactly the kind of things that keep me connected to SV. it’s a provocative graphic for sure, hence it has provoked all this fantastic debate and discussion about it. And it probably does so out in the wide world wherever anybody sees it too… It obviously has an element of humor, probably some snarkiness as some have suggested, for sure some pride, etc… really everything that all of you have addressed… Probably even some offensiveness as well as some supportiveness built into it… anyway just wanted to chime back in to say this and to thank u all for ur very thoughtful responses and for keeping it civil, LOL. If anyone recalls I am the one who way above posted the request for more elaboraton on the whole “military wife stereotypes” matter and so I especially appreciate those replies… insightful indeed, I think I “get it” now… tho the craziest part is that what I think I mostly took away from this part of the thread is that there is not even any 1 single consistent image or stereotype of that “military wife” even just amongst those commenting here — some allude to a very “well-behaved” one, others to the opposite… some more to the physical image others to their “intentions” (the hook-up for an easy steady income, etc)… either way, I’m sorry that you are all pegged as ANYTHING, whatever it may be… it’s not fair to anyone to be pre-judged, under Amy circumstances. I appreciate my “freedom” from this as the wife of a civilian that much more…

Yes seen this many times (the graphic) funny and cute, tho part of me feels it’s a bit mean, tho admittedly I can’t quite put my finger on why… Anyway, besides the point — sort of… The main reason I’m responding is because — pardon the ignorance (& feels worse yet considering I grew up in a total military town surrounded by folks in every branch here!) — WHAT stereotype abt military wives? Please do explain, enquiring minds wanna know! Bc I’m certain I don’t! Is it sleazy? Or conservative? Or …? Haha, sorry to be so nosey but curious to understand better the reactions you guys have gotten from the bumber sticker… Which overall I do have to commend you on your ballsy-ness for sporting it around, military or not!

Sorry “organized” above should say “organization”
funny I recall hearing Natasha tell another instructor from my studio that apparently she will likely hold that national title for another year for that comp bc there was not gonna be another such event for the next year… not only was she right, but maybe more than she realized at the time… if I recall correctly she is now the last holder of that title ever???

I know there was a lot of controversy around that organized & comp… a quick search on Veena for past threads on this topic will prob bring a lot of that to light… I honestly forgot any of the details I knew (not many to begin with), but I do recall more abt APFA (that one was an even more fired up controversy / scandal)… bottom line none of those were ever all that well-organized anyway… enter the new and increasingly powerful/compelling/established/highly regarded & respected PSO…

Pam u are correct abt Greta (I a proud to know her personally — inspirational without a doubt… and folks, I guarantee you she’s 100% human just like us…). And Iain — best response anyone could kick this thread off with.

One more thing I’ll say to hopefully inspire/motivate you, specifically as a mom, & 6 times around!!! Wow! I daresay you are more likely to make some solid progress and go pretty far with pole. Strength is key, as is body awareness. As an instructor for 5 years now, as well as a mom of 2, I can tell you it is an interesting thing to observe the moms vs non-moms take on pole, regardless even of fitness/flex/dance background. Now I won’t say that this applies 100% of the time necessarily, but it sure does seem like most of the time it’s a trend I witness: there’s a certain strength capacity and pain tolerance threshold that women who have had children seem to cross, as well as a certain sense of being in touch with your body, that may not be quite there if you haven’t had the experience of being pregnant and delivering a child. I say this sort of even including myself: I’m pretty certain if I had taken on pole 10 or more years prior to when I first started, I would not have had nearly the levels of success that I have had having started this post child-bearing. Again, not necessarily an unexceptional truth, but overall moms tend to be crazy tough — oh, and maybe a little (or a LOT?!) More motivated too. Especially compared to the averag woman, as I have observed. Of course, that doesn’t mean you have to be a mother to be awesome at pole, duh. But I just say all this because I’m always impressed by what I see from the same women who 1st walked in to the studio writing themselves off as NOT having much hope with pole, on account of being unfit moms… and months/years later their progress is amazing.

So honey, get ready you might blow all our minds and yours come 6 months or a year from now… Nevermind yearS! But again, as mentioned above, the discipline is also essential: passionately, not half-heartedly.

Sorry for the long tirade. Enjoy the pole ride sister!

Mmmmm, yummy… now THAT is some SEXY poling. Dang those Russians keep taking pole to another level… esp the dudes…

Thanks for posting. Brought a much-needed smile to my face right now. That guy looks like an impossibly fun person to be around. And that cup-grip Ayesha hop-climb up the pole!!! Insane… love it. Love pole.

My new favorite pole wear brand (super in love with almost all their stuff and great variety of colors as well as AWESOME unique prints): yogabela! (Your welcome for free advertising!) check them out, yes pricey (well, no worse than about about Mika-level, like ~$40/item) but fantastic quality and fit. My pole wife and I love them. Only bought stuff from them at pole events, but they have a good website. I own several of the side-tie shorts and the double criss-cross top — love them and have washed them a gazillion times and still look and fit like new… I also have the top with the loop-thru center part, but can’t recommend bc I’m always popping out of that one! And no I am NOT that well-endowed (I wish!), I think the boob parts are just set too far apart or maybe cut too low on that style. Too bad because super adorable and sexy (& comfy!) top otherwise. That said, one of my students has this same top and wears hers all the time but she don’t pop out ever (small like me too, but subtle diffs in body type?).

Ok but gotta list a few who, when I run out of Zoraya stuff to watch (which is quik bc there just isn’t a lot out there of hers), I invite u to check out the ones who I never grow tired of watching (on like infinite repeat):
    – David Owen (my 1st male pole hero — yay for making this a coed sport/art!!!)
    – Evgeny Greshilov (my 2nd… & since the cancer in me is so drawn to relationship stories… his partner:)
    – Anastasia Skukhtorova (sp? Sorry… but what an amazing and fun and beautiful duo they are)
    – Olga Koda (I’m also big on fun in pole, & Koda definitely seems to have a LOT of it!)
    – Polina Martyanova (my go-to for sexy… I think one of the 1st I discovered pole dancing on YouTube)
    – almost ANY of the Russians (male or female — dang, they are so crazy and creative on the pole!)
    – ok bringing it back home: Nadia Sharif! There I go again, always being drawn to the “Fun” side of pole, and from the 1st time I saw Nadia onstage, right up to the 1st time I met her, took class with her, shared the stage with her, etc — she has always been so ballsy and non-stop FUN!!! Just my style… 😉

Never stop being inspired folks, but also never stop having your own fun on the pole too, ok?!

Like many, I’m also not so sure abt the word “idol”… but right off the bat if u asked me which one I would go back and be born as: Zoraya, no question. Though she is less dance-y than I like, it’s really the background story… like it sounds like it is for a lot of us… until something abt them more personally resonates with me, they are pretty 2-dimensional — as beautiful & spectacular as they may all be to watch. But Zoraya as a mom of 2 boys, with what appears to be a really romantic and beautiful partnership with hottie hubby Nick, their dedication to fitness and just overall seemingly healthy and strong famimy vibe — well I guess what I’m realizing is that’s just me too… Minus the ridiculous ripped body and impossibly exotic beauty, nevermind tbe strength, haha! But Zoraya I find inspirational as a mom working professionally in my little corner of the pole world, trying to juggle all the demands in time and energy…

And while I’m on it, gotta give a shout out to Veena who also inspires me for, well, pretty much all the same reasons as Zoraya. And then on a more local level, really all the studio owners (mostly women, yay!) who are also doing their part to advance the pole world, and often simultaneously juggling other careers and husbands and kids and pets and households…

Polekat u r the first one to make me smile on a dreary morning in what seems like an eternal week… your post is hilarious, I love it bc it sounds exactly like the experience (& body’s reaction to me) I’m likely to have with attempting this pose! But attempt I will nevertheless, hopefully by next week. I need a new cool move so bad to lift my spirits this season… so I’ll either rejoice at getting this, or at simply being a new member of your “No Way, Noodle is not happening” club…

LOL “farmer’s” above should say “FORMER’s” (as in Nadia’s — no I am NOT calling her a farmer! OMG hilarious!)

Anyway, so far all I have for pole N-thing is… Nada… Nothing… anyone???

N in the pole world makes me think of Nadia or Natasha… like maybe one of the farmer’s signature spins or the latter’s B-girl? And actually thw 1st thing that popped into my mind was “no-handed” something or other, like no-handed cupid or leg hang or BM or dangerous bird or… gazillions of options here but I feel like that’s a lame last-resort if u just can’t come up with a N-named move… I certainly can’t think any…let us know if u do!
