Hey! I know this is an old thread, but I'm going to buy an x-pole and I'd like to get it from you Veena, but I'm Canadian and I'm worried about surprise duty fees… I've heard horror stories of $200 duty charges and I don't want this to happen to me!

    Thanks!

I'll be travelling by Metro… any advice?

Definitely choose music that gets you riled up… I'm talking wet panties girl.

Choose a mood, (sassy, cute, etc.), and communicate it consistently through your face while you dance.  If you can do that and point your toes, you can fake the rest!

This blog article is also helpful I think…

    Have fun!

Haha!  I have four cats!  They tend to let me and my pole have privacy, but they always seem to show up when I'm relaxing in a yoga pose…

Wow, thanks so much for your responses!  I feel less discouraged now, knowing that it's normal for inverting to take a lot time to accomplish.  Puma, my back pain is on the left side as well, and although I can't be sure, I think I the injury resulted from a tuck spin, which has the same sort of pulling up the knees action that a tuck invert does.  I took a month of from poling, but perhaps that wasn't enough time…  I will try to patient, because that's great advice, though the most difficult to follow sometimes!

I'm thinking about getting a gym membership so I can use weight machines to gradually build up my strength, since going from the resistance band to lifting my legs up in a tuck seems to be a big jump for me.

And may I ask Puma, what is stripper's elbow?

Wow!  I was already excited to be doing pole dance instructor certification with Live Once, but now I am extremely excited after reading all this great feedback about the DVDs!  I feel confident that I will be in good hands…

Hey Beepolen, don't be disturbed.  I go through the same ebbs and flows with all my creative passions in life, including dance.  As women we are reactive to the moment, and learning to relax and go with our own flow is the greastest gift we can give to ourselves.  We simply don't know how we're going to feel tomorrow or a month or a year from now.  All we can know is what we're experiencing in the present and we can focus our attention there.

My point is to let go of what has already happened with your pole practice, and don't concern yourself with where it's going.  Acknowlegde and accept where you are right now, and come back to your pole without expectations.  Open yourself up to the present and get up on that pole and be nasty!

Resistance stretching is hard work and I always do it cautiously.  It's a lot like strength training so it can be pretty tiring, and like ottersocks said, a little goes a long way.  Maybe it's the yoga teacher in me, but I would try to let go of your expectations with resistance stretching and listen to your body.  Let your breath be the keystone of your stretching and pay attention to each moment without forcing.  The resistance serves to strengthen your muscles to better support stretching… it's not always going to result in a deeper stretch.  I'm as anxious as anyone to get more flexibility, but I learned the hard way that going too far with resistance stretching can result in serious injury.  After using resistance stretching in the side splits, my hamstrings were damaged and I'm still really tight there after a few months.

Is the chest stand what you're doing in your photo?  Cause that looks harder than the Bow!  That's like contortionist style awesomeness.

This is one of my favourite yoga postures, (Bow pose)… it's great because you can use your own body to pull yourself deeper into the stretch.  But be sure to use the abs and warm up first!
