    Very fun and interesting post!

    Name:  Gina

    Age: 55

    Location: Gilroy Ca.

    Stage name:  G or GG

Lessons or self taught:  both in the beginning, great studio now, Ultimate Pole.

    Spin or static:  mostly static

    Shoes or barefoot: both

Favorite pole move:  hmm…. probably the Edge, used to be handspring/cartwheel mount but lost that with my shoulder problems.

Day Job:  Systems Analyst & software QA

Best/sexiest feature:  my legs (in 6" heels of course)

How you got into pole dancing:  Gym/studio owner put in poles and wanted a full class.  I resisted, but finally went and was hooked.  And I thought girlie sports weren't for me.

How you found out about studioveena.com: classmates and instructor.

If you were a pair of underwear:  None of the above, I'd be briefs/hipsters cause I like my chownies to stay where they belong and still be comfey.  Same way I am, I belong in pole and am totally comfey with it!

We had a few things to say at our studio last night about this thread. It was funny that it was seen by most because the Allegra is my nemisis!   I've been learning the Allegra and having the hardest time.  All the girls know how short waisted I am and it sucks! Our instructor has shown us an adjustment technique that I simply can't use because of my midlife roll in exactly that "good" spot. 🙁  Once I plant, the pole wont adjust cause it seems to nest in there quite comfortably!  Oh well, we all have our just can't do moments.  Your ribs are more important cause if you bruise, it hurts to pole.  Hope some of the suggestions from others helps you!

I am a firm believer that mom was right…..  she's jealous of you and can't help but be spiteful!  Either she does not accomplish her goals in pole or she takes bad pictures, has less friends, or she lost a boyfriend who she considered "the one". In the insecure world of our head it matters and hurts, but in the long view it will become clear that people like this are just projecting their own insecurities.    Best wishes and let it roll off!  <3

    Hi PeggyRose,

My grandaughter poles!  She just turned two.  Everytime she comes to visit, she wants to go     "weeee".   Thats her expression since about age 1. She just walks around saying weee.  It's her idea of great fun.  One  day her mom and I were sitting around watching her do her pole spin/walk and she requested her shoes off.  Well, she climbed the pole like a little monkey and nobody taught her to do that. I have a video on my page of her doing this, check it out.  I think that for a almost 2 year old to climb like that takes great balance and agility.  She's pretty strong too.  I've also noticed she can do more coordinated kicks and walks in her beginning gymnastics class than others with more classes than her at that age.  I just hope my body lets me do pole for a while more so she can grow up more and actually learn some moves and tricks from me! 🙂

  • I am 55 and love pole, but do not  feel sexy.  I still fear the dance and sexy part of lessons and probably will never embrace my inner goddess like most women.  I grew up in a day where some parents drilled into you what behaviors were not acceptable under any situation.   It is really hard to get over that kind of upbringing.  I've made alot of strides with poledance, and I practice it for the personal challenge more than anything else.  I had a group of friends who were trying it out and got convinced by them to try it "just once".  It turned out that I was alot stronger than them at the time and got some moves very easily.  My group was very cool and encouraging.  We challenged each other to try new moves etc and it reminded me of the playground days where we'd show off our skills.  Thats what made it fun for me. It turns out that I've outlasted most of that startup class.   Does your mom have a core group of friends you could enlist to get her to try with them?  I would never have gone without their encouragement.

Hello Ladies!  I got an excellent face treatment by accident.  I was dressed as a harem dancer/joke for halloween and decided to put a beard under my veil.  Knowing how sensitive my skin is,  I made one by putting honey on my face and added folgers coffee crystals to make the wiskers.  I wore it for hours and when I washed my face off, it felt amazing.  It was soft and tight and very nicely colored too.  I guess the coffee might not be 100% "natural" , but my skin loved it.  🙂

Hello, I just checked out your picture, Is that light right in the middle of the flat tall part?  My son put in a tray when he remodeled and it has the same bone structure as a regular ceiling.  The light is encouraging if you dont know   At least it should be to the left or right of a beam as the electrical box is usually mounted on the beam.  Of course "should" is a subjective word here! I would either see if a view of the structure is possible from the crawl space, or maybe even turn off the power to that light and remove it so you can look up there.  It's pretty easy, and usually only 1 or 2 screws.  That would be sweet having your pole there instead of the light.  Maximum height!  (little ceiling envy here).  good luck.

Hello, So sorry you're suffering for your art!  I had a 13 year run with a chronic bad elbow.  It was actually painful to touch at times.  My dr. kept giving me motrin and rest treatments that only lessened the pain and never actually cured me. I also used the brace.  I was trying a alternate treatment for something else at a accupuncture clinic and had just irritated the joint again.  I asked about it and they cured me in just two treatments.  Getting the blood flowing was the key, and it really worked.  The pain started lessening about 2 days after the first treatment so I went back for a booster.  That was all it took.  Hope you feel better soon!

Very old fashioned remedy:  wd40 on those laminate tiles.  Then wipe up so no grease is left.

I resemble most of these remarks…Menopause is killing my joints and energy level.  Gained 20 lbs and pretty much wake up each morning with a different sore joint.  I'm also on thyroid meds and still getting better from a shoulder injury over a year ago. That didn't help.  I've lost so many moves it makes me sad, but I won't give up my pole cause it makes me happy! 🙂  I went from the first in class to get tricks to back in level 1 and 2 to rebuild strength.  Grandma's pole too!

I used the nail test after i got a general idea of where beams would be.  You can eyeball the corner of windows or doors as they are mounted on side beams.  Light switches and plug boxes are mounted on a side beam too (to the left or right of it.  Trace to the ceiling and eyeball across to get an idea of where to pound the nail.  Standard US beams are 16" apart.  You could also go outside and look at the beams under the edge of the roof and maybe get an idea of what direction they run and how far apart.  This works even better if you can match it to a window or door in the room you're using.  Happy Poling will be yours!
