Organic Angel, thanks for the information! It's definitely good to hear such positive things about poling while pregnant and post-partum. I enjoyed watching your videos, too. Thanks for sharing!

Congratulations! I'd be really interested in hearing about how it went for you. I'm not pregnant yet, but may be sometime in the next year. Did you pole all the way through your last pregnancy? What advice did your Ob-Gyn give you, if any? Did you lose a lot of core strength after the first pregnancy, and if so, how long did it take to get back to your pre-pregnancy level of fitness? Thanks for any advice you can give me. It's actually been on a lot on my mind lately as my husband and I are talking about our plans for the future.

My worst injury was an intercostal strain. I was learning a drop from flatline to inside leg hang and my instructor told me to make sure to catch myself with my shoulder on the pole, so I twisted my torso hard into the pole as I was coming down and strained it. It's been almost a year since I did that and it still gives me trouble. I keep restraining it and it just never heals. It's really driving me crazy.

One time I was super slippery, which is unusual for me. I went into yogini, which I've done so many times, but since I was unusually slippery, I slid right down the pole and landed on my knee caps. Ouch. They were so bruised that I couldn't kneel for a couple of weeks.

I seem to have been able to get the pin the right amount of tightness, because it goes up and down pretty easily, but I don't find myself unlocking it accidentally by stepping on it. Maybe try to tighten the perpendicular screw just a little bit?

I agree, I've seen the older mechanism with the Lil Minx poles and I think it worked much better. I'm sorry they changed it. I can imagine it would be difficult for a beginner class to get the hang of while trying to learn everything else.

When I first started weight training, I bought the book "Strength Training for Women: Tone Up, Burn Calories, Stay Strong" by Joan Pagano. It was really helpful for me. It's divided into muscle groups, and it explains exercises for machines at the gym as well as dumbells and resistance bands that you can do at home. It helped me better understand the basics of weight lifting, and I planned workouts for each muscle group. If I'm not at the gym doing classes, I'll split up the muscle groups and do arms and chest one day, back and legs another day, and abs a third day, so it takes less time each day.

If you have a gym near you that teaches Body Pump classes, look into that. I'm in love with this class. In one hour, you work all muscle groups to fatigue, and it's a really great workout. When I do my weight training at home, I do the standard 3 sets of 10-12 reps, and it takes so much longer to get through a workout, just like you said.

Another way to get multiple muscle groups out with a single move is to look into kettlebells or TRX. Just be careful with kettlebells, if your form is not spot on, it's easy to hurt yourself.

There’s a tiny screw that’s perpendicular to the one that goes up and down. If you loosen that screw, the big one will go up and down easily. I hope that helps.

Thanks for the advice. I'll be sure to use liquid graphite in the future.

Thanks for the advice. I think I fixed both problems. For the locking mechanism, there's a tiny little screw that we found and loosened, and now it works perfectly. As for the spinning, it seemed the pole was rubbing on the mount. I've got a vault ceiling, so didn't account for the extra 2 inches or so of the vault ceiling mount when I measured. However, with a TON of WD-40, it seems to be spinning much more smoothly than when I first put it up.

It's so much fun reading what everyone does!

I'm a doctor, and haven't really told any of my coworkers that I pole. I wouldn't want my patients to find out. I'm already the youngest female doctor at work, and if they found out, I'd hate to think about the awkward conversations that would follow. I already have a lot of patients trying to call me "sweetheart" and "honey."

I have a static pole that I bought after my first class, before I knew how useful the spinning feature was. I really wish I'd bought a spinning pole. With the spinning pole, you can put the pin in place and use it as a static pole, so you have both options. There are certain spins I can't practice at home because you need a spinning pole, so eventually I'll buy a spinning pole.
