I jump on the Shine fitness bandwagon too! The staff there is SO nice and the facility is awesome, and they have a one of a kind rigging system. Highly recommend!

Tacha – it's a baking competition show where the contestants bake cupcakes with different themes and ingredients, and one team is eliminated each round. A cupcake has the icing on the top and a muffin is usually plain and mostly undecorated. 🙂

Sassypants yes you got the secret pole joke lmao 😉 Missy poles too, that is actually how I met her!!! At a workshop with Alethea Austin, a few days after she won USPDF. We just had baking in common. I forgot to write that in my original post!

Ok a few things – Mini I am so glad you are competing in this one I think it's perfect for you and you will do really really well here!!!!! I'm doing level 2 also, on May 26th.
I was confused about the point of contact thing too because the Midwest Pole Dance Competition counts a cross ankle release as a layback! I know this because I competed in their rookie category where I was not allowed to do inversions but I was allowed to do a cross ankle release and I did one in competition. I guess it was a stupid question because I asked her too but if other comps count the same move as not being inverted I think it's really important to know all the rules. I am competing in this too at the Central division and I had a CAR in my routine until I found out it was illegal!
I am signed up for dramatic Level 2, I may be re-doing my Girl With One Eye piece for it. We will see!!!! I also signed up for entertainment too but I'm regretting that now although I may just wing that one with a piece I've also done already and see how it goes! Good luck to everyone competing! xoxoxo

How long will you be selling this pole?! I REALLY WANT ONE! But can't buy it until after the wedding so gonna ask for it for Christmas but I worry it won't still be around! I can't wait to go to Saphyre's house and play on it!

Yay! good luck! I bet you will love performing 🙂

Hehe! Aww thanks OA 🙂
Funny my name came up in this because I just finally did my first dramatic performance piece to try to push myself out of the box and not smile, AND IT WAS SO HARD FOR ME. I don't necessarily think you always need to smile in a performance, especially if it's not a lighthearted piece but I do get sad when I see girls who like they are not having a good time 🙁 Face can definitely make an okay performance into a great performance but face is really hard and I think it takes as much practice as tricks. Then you have to think about your tricks, angles, toe point and face all at once, it gets to be a lot to think about especially for competition. I think it does get better, easier and more natural with performing and stage experience though. The very first time I did a submission video and had to smile at the camera with no one else in the room I felt pretty silly but now it's much easier because I'm used to it 🙂

Great job! Glad you are performing more lately 🙂 congrats on the new baby!

Heeelp.I have a performance Saturday and competition coming up soon and I am doing a serious dramatic piece this time, weird I know! But as always, I am dancing sooo fast and not really taking time to enjoy it or command the audience's attention like I could be. How do I get around this?! I usually pick fast songs so that's part of my problem, and in my head I am in a trick and then already thinking of the next 3 after it! It's bad :/ not to mention the timing with this song is super important. How do I slow down and just feel the music and the character?! Heeeellllppp!

Is it possible she was just encouraging you to buy the finish the studio carries? I think the Veena pole sounds perfect for you 🙂 for sure do a 45 if you have small hands it's also becoming the industry standard now where it used to 50s. Enjoy your home pole and your pole journey!

MemberApril 7, 2013 at 10:59 pm in reply to: Help: Pole Finish for Sweaty Hands/Tropical WeatherI should have said – I have mostly trained on chrome, but have used powder coated, brass and stainless. Chrome is my favorite and powder coated second. Speaking from performing/competing experience, If your hand sweat issues are that bad which mine are also, it's best to try and deal with the sweat issues if you can so you could do performances that are not on your home pole in case there was a situation where you needed to be on a different finish. I love dirty girl poletice it has helped me a lot. Increasing your grip strength can also help because if your grip is really strong you won't slide as much even if you hands are sweating. I feel like dry hands only works for me at the beginning and then my hands sweat right through it, and they do sweat way more before performances! Nothing has worked as well for me as the dirty girl. I also have a friend who puts dove extra strength deodorant on her hands before she goes to bed and she says it helps too! I hope you find a cure, i hate how sweaty my hands get 🙁

MemberApril 7, 2013 at 10:53 pm in reply to: Help: Pole Finish for Sweaty Hands/Tropical WeatherI have crazy sweaty hands and pole finish doesn't seem to matter much to me either. Brass is super grippy though so I imagine it may be too grippy in your climate – but I have only trained on chrome for the past 4 years so I can't really say. I have good sticky days and bad sticky days. Some days my pole is slippy and other days it's grippy. I think every pole has good and bad points. The Veena pole may be a great choice for you due to the quality for the price point if it's your first home pole. Good luck 🙂
