Good thread! I listen to a lot heavier stuff like NIN, Korn, Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, Garbage etc…which I know might not float everyone’s boat but I’m more a rocker metal chick so I listen to that sort of stuff anyway :-p I do find it’s good music for some people that use poling to bring out their inner bad girl though because it’s stuff they never would normally listen to so I think it makes them feel that much naughtier.

Thanks everyone! I will try rubbing it with a hot water bottle and try to keep myself as dry as possible too…I had heard about the grip enhancing stuff but I didn’t want to try it in case I did get too reliant on it. I will report back with the results of everything hehehe. Happy poling https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I would go with what Taylor said, it’s good to start from the top and work your way back up, but my women’s health mag. said that if you stop doing strength training it’s easier to rebuild the muscle than it would be if you had never done it at all, so that’s encouraging. I also notice my strength gets built up faster after a few days off the pole than it would if I was just beginning so just keep at it and you’ll get your strength back up to par.

It will take a while for your skin to get used to the friction and you will have nasty bruises for a long time! sometimes I still get them when I’m doing new holds where I use my legs but the pain and bruising has gotten considerably better. You cant do much aside from working through the pain and waiting for your skin to get used to it but once you do it will be worth the wait. good luck!

LOL you guys should both come down here, the three of us can all go together and hit up different clubs so we aren’t competing against each other hehehee https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I’ve always wanted to do it but my boyfriend would probably be really mad at me hahaha…I’m surprised you guys aree having such a hard time finding something, there are tons here in Chicago!

I actually have the Idiot’s Guide to Exotic/Pole Dance and the music on the DVD was definitely really annoying and so was the guy when he was getting the lap dance haha….but this was the very first thing I bought after buying my pole and the DVD was a huge help as I had no idea what to do really. I had watched youtube videos but it was easier for me to have someone break down the moves for me. I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone beyond a very new beginner but if you’re looking for an inexpensive way to get some sort of direction, it helped me out quite a bit!

This might not work out well for everyone but a challenge to dance to a guilty pleasure song….aka a song that you normally would never listen to because you dont like the band/style of music/etc but you know you could do a great pole routine to it…i have a few of these!

Thanks everyone! GeorgiaMarie, it seems like the second step your talking about is almost like the starting position from the corkscrew, where your hips are in front of the pole? That’s what I visualized when I read it so if that’s what you’re describing I’ll have to try it that way…I never thought of going in front of the pole, I’ve always done it from behind. I’ll keep you all posted on my progress!

I totally agree it should be an Olympic sport. First of all I don’t think a lot of people realize how much strength it takes to be a talented pole dancer, and I think if it was in the Olympics hopefully people wouldn’t be so weird about it and it would be seen as more of a skilled sport than something so taboo as it is now. Just today I was thinking about how it’s so similar to figure skating because of the body momentum you need to spin in both skating and pole dancing. I don’t care what category it gets put in, I just hope it gets there one day.

I will definitely drop in! What time in your time zone are you going to be in chat?

It took me quite a long while to do my first invert too so don’t feel bad https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Are you having problems getting yourself upside down, or just having a problem gripping the pole with your legs once you’re inverted? It does take some time to get used to the pain and you will probably have horribly bruised thighs for a while but your skin does get used to it, I promise! One of the issues I had when first doing the inverted crucifix was that I felt like I was really tightly hooking the leg that goes behind the pole but when I video taped myself I saw that I actually wasn’t holding on very securely so I was having a hard time hanging on. Make sure your legs are really wrapped around the pole…also if you invest in a pair of pleather or PVC boots you can wear them while you’re practicing and they’ll help you stick to the pole and get used to being inverted while you’re trying to build up the pain tolerance on your legs. I have a pair of PVC boots and a pair of plastic stripper shoes from Pleaser and I am very satisfied with both pairs. Good luck!

Thanks for all the answers everyone! I knew I had seen videos of the Xpole being used on carpeting but I just wanted some firsthand experiences. As far as the platinum stages I have actually seen those and some of them are really cool but I have a feeling I would totally fall off that little platform and break an ankle…I know it’s not that far to the ground but trust me I’m sure I’d find a way to accomplish an injury anyway!
