How bendy do you have to be to do this?? I can do a regular front split but that doesn't seem like it would cut it for this??

OMG that was crazyballs!!! I loooove the POTC series so the theme made it even better for me!

Yes go with PoleFitMom she is freaking awesome and I wish she could teach me!

I think sometimes people tend to blame pole cleaners, room temp, etc before they will admit they were having grip issues.

Thanks everybody! I am definitely being hard on myself but I feel very sad I didn't get to give the performance I wanted to give. If I wasn't at least a little disappointed in myself I wouldn't grow as a performer but I do feel way better knowing I still placed in the top half.
To be fair, people watching it live were saying similar things about the pole cleaners not doing a good job BUT I don't personally agree with that because my hands sweat really bad anyways and that was part of the issue, so like I said earlier, some stuff was under my control. Also the pole cleaners for my division were actually people I know and students of Michelle Mynx who coached me, I was actually surprised they were allowed to clean for me. So if anything they would have done an extra good job for me considering they knew me already. I am going to explore some options for dealing with my hands sweating so bad, it was hard to get through a routine with no tricks because usually those give me time to dry my hands off. I also never asked how they were being cleaned, what they were being cleaned with, or if I could give any specifications as to how I wanted it cleaned. if I would have known that info ahead of time I could have prepared, I also felt I was at a disadvantage because I had to go last. Girls who went 1, 2, 3rd said the poles were perfect. Someone told me they cleaned the pole and it didn't smell like it was being cleaned with alcohol which is what I am used to using. The stage had lights this year and I am not used to dancing on a stage like that but like I said, I learned a lot and now I can try to avoid this same problem in the future.

MemberSeptember 3, 2012 at 9:28 am in reply to: Where did you start and where are you now?I started because I went to a strip club with an old boyfriend and saw a girl do an inversion. I thought it was awesome and went home and googled it, and came across a video of Veena. A few days later I went to Home Depot and bought a pipe for a homemade pole. I learned basic spins on that and then got an X-Pole about a year later, the same one I am using today.
I had taken up somewhat of an interest in fitness before pole so it wasn't hard to get started, but it is the only workout I have stuck with. I have been doing it on and off for about 4 years now. I have no dance experience besides 8 weeks of ballet/tap class when I was 8 and a few years on and off of taking and teaching belly dance when I was in high school/college.
Pole has changed my life and allowed me to travel to places I never would have visited otherwise. I have met the most fabulous people and pole has helped me find a part of my personality that never came out before I became a stage performer. In high school I was too fat to run the mile, now I am a 2 time pole fitness competitor and performer with a title and a trophy. My fiance and I are thinking of moving to Vegas so I can be a performer of some kind, pole has opened me up to discover other styles of dance like burlesque and re-visit belly dance. I got my stage name tattooed on myself so I can remember how much fun I had doing this https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I loooove VEENA! I got into pole because of her, I have been following her youtube channel since before SV even existed, I used to frantically check my youtube for new videos from her sinbabylk account, her gimme more video was the first full length pole video i ever saw. Secondly would be Michelle Mynx, I think she's really not known enough and has toured the country poling on stage as a doubles act with her partner with the Dresden Dolls and Margaret Cho. I have had the lucky opportunity to be coached for competitions by both these ladies and they are even more fabulous when you get to know them as people, Veena is one of my bff's now 🙂

Yep I just say "I do aerial arts, like the circus!" not 100% true but for some people it's better to leave it at that 😉

Thanks so much girls I am super happy it was an amazing trip i got to hang out with Veena herself and see her new house and swim in the awesome pool! I also had a private with Suwasit in vegas who is fabulous. and it was all topped off by spending a day shopping with Alethea in LA and going in her pool and awesome apartment. met keith too who is awesome. And got proposed to!!! The people at disneyland were so nice and we got so many congratulations from the employees and guests I lost count after 50. He proposed on the pirate's lair island which we found out we were the first couple to get engaged there! Right after my sister arranged a private boat for us on the Pirates of the caribbean ride just the two of us. They put us on the boat and then announced we had just gotten engaged to all the people waiting in line it was so awesome!!! I wish i could do it all over again best vacation EVER. And I have more exciting news that i will be saying shortly!!!!
