Mine’s in my bedroom. I wanted to take advantage of my vaulted ceiling and the only other vaulted ceiling was in my living room but there’s a pool table in the way so it ended up in the bedroom at 10 feet. I think I could have gone close to 12 feet but I was too cheap to pay for a pole of that height.
It’s only my husband and I at home so I practice whenever, and he is rarely in the room when I do…unless I need him to spot me.

It is well within the dosing parameters of ibuprofen to take 800 mg three times a day for short periods (a few weeks). You may not need or want to take that much but I do not want to appear to be recommending something inappropriate or inaccurate.
Peace

MemberAugust 8, 2014 at 8:27 pm in reply to: Yet another rotator cuff/tendonitis/overtraining threadTropicalpole, I’m not an expert but I’ll weigh in with what I’ve been told by my docs and physical therapists. My problem area right now is lower body (knock on wood) but for a chronic knee problem and now a six-month-old proximal hamstring injury the advice has repeatedly been to heat before activity and ice after. I’ve also been advised to use ibuprofen but that should be a relatively shorter term use, as in weeks, because it’s hard on the belly. You can take up to 800 mg three times a day and should take it with food but do not use this dose for very long. Every time I go to therapy I do lots of strengthening but the exercises are more specific than standard weightlifting.
I had a shoulder injury many years ago and both shoulders have what the docs call “multidirectional instability” and nothing acute shows up on MRI. I take this to mean they are both rather loose in the joint. I literally did years (probably five) of physical therapy shoulder exercises every two to three days until I finally noticed the pain was gone. These were very low weight, specific exercises for my rotator cuff. Just last night I took a handstand workshop and it felt like that same shoulder did a bit of a partial dislocation so I was just thinking today I should probably dig out those exercises and give them another go for a bit.
It sounds to me like you need rest and I wouldn’t be surprised if massage, stretching and perhaps ultrasound or electrical stim might not be helpful. It doesn’t sound like strengthening is the answer yet perhaps later when it’s settled down some. My guess would be that planks are not wise at this juncture–I think they put quite a bit of strain on the shoulders.
Good luck–I know what a bummer it is to deal with these injuries. I was healthy as a horse until my 40s so it’s been a struggle to learn my body is not indestructible.

Done. Really cool filming/editing!

I’ll give it a shot too! I only made it about halfway through the 30-day plank challenge but I will say it held a plank FAR longer than I ever did on my own.

I do an hour of physical therapy exercises for legs twice a week for more than a year.

Ava, your hair in the pole was cracking me up. Thanks for the laugh. And I absolutely love your profile picture–so cool!

No warning for me either and we had been in the yoga class for at least 30 minutes. I will say that the only time I have worked on splits in recent years has been when I’ve done Felix Cane’s flexibility DVD, which is a really long warmup before you get to splits so perhaps, for my old body, 30 minutes wasn’t enough since it wasn’t all hamstring/leg warmup in yoga. Don’t know–never for a minute when I left that class did I think it would be anything more than a week or two to heal–I only wish that had been true!

I too tell just about everybody. And Lucca, I love gos-pole–hilarious. I’m gonna steal that line.
I have told some pretty conservative folks, a male physician I work with who during downtime at work was memorizing scriptures with some sort of flash card things. I don’t know what possessed me (perhaps the devil in me), but it was actually a very interesting response. At first he thought I was joking then he was clearly embarrassed for a moment or two–at which time I began to regret telling him but it was too late. A few days later he asked me more about it and silks since I told him I did that too. Before you know it he was looking up silks on his phone and asking if I could do this or that. I assume he was afraid to google pole dance, but I showed him some pics on my phone and he was totally cool with it. After that he asked me about it all the time.
I also wear pole tank tops and such all over the place. I can’t help myself–I think it’s awesome and everyone should try it!

I bought Pleasers from Amazon for $35 and love them.

I didn’t hear anything or feel a pop but I knew I had pulled it while still in the yoga class because it was already sore. I limped a bit for a few days. It throbbed off and on for months after, even while lying in bed. I just realized today it probably hasn’t throbbed for a month or so–of course I’m five months out now.
I just got the Dara Torres DVD today and did all the stretches. This resistance stretching thing still seems very weird to me but I’m going to give it a try.
