Just explain that it him, it sounds perfectly reasonable. After all, why shoudn’t you want your own time, to do anything?

Just say "Hey I know it sound stupid but sometimes I get a little self conscious when I’m practicing pole in the same room as you, because I’m a beginner…I’d love to dance for you but I’d prefer to dance for you when I am experienced and happy with my performance and skills…but I need to have a little alone time to get used to it on my own."

Say it in a breezy way to make it clear to him its not a big deal, its not HIM that makes you uncomfortable but the fact that you’re a beginner and explain to him it takes a lot of getting used to dancing confidently round a vertical pole!

I think he should understand, maybe emphasize to him how much it is simply part of your exercise routine, as opposed to sexy time https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif. For example, if you were doing an aerobics dvd or whatever, you might not necessarily wanna do it in front of him. (I don’t like doing exercise dvds/etc in front of anyone…especially my bf and ESPECIALLY when I’m starting something new and feel unfit and I’m sweaty and gasping for breath and …ew)

Hi! Well I don’t know any official stores, though I’m sure there are plenty BUT go to camden! There are a ton of shoe shops lining camden high street and ALL of them sell a huge range of killer pole shoes, and beautiful thigh high pvc boots, loads of different styles. Also loads of cute costumes and well, and wigs, accessories….its basically awash with stripper/poling/rave/alternative gothy stuff. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif Theyre good prices as well!

Oh this is a good one….I don’t have the mental energy to right a big long response but I totally feel that if its the woman’s choice… then it surely doesn’t exploit them!!!
Isn’t feminism about women having the choice to do what they want? If I want to dance on stage or stay at home with my kids…who cares! Sorry if this seems random but I get my "panties in a knot" over this topic

    I agree 100% with this Roxy. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumleft.gif

Definetly! I agree 100% also! I would like to clarify as well that what I am talking about in my massive rant (if any of you actually bother to read it…I just realised how long it is!) is literally me pondering over how I feel about MYSELF dancing in regards to how I feel about feminism not ANYONE else. Because feminism IS about having the choice. And I think where feminism goes wrong is when women (and men) start demanding each other act in some sort of ‘perfect way’. Everyone should have the fundamental right to make their own choices, man or women.

Ah I’m gonna shut up because my head is buzzing.

Sorry for subjecting you all to my ridicuous thoughts, I will end with:

I love women and men I think we’re all great. I love poling, I think its awesome. I think stripper shoes are flipping BEAUTIFUL. Tralalala. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pirat.gif

Hmm. I am definitely a feminist. And…as much as I hate to admit it (because I LOVE pole dancing and have so much respect for pole dancers and for strippers) there are tiny elements about it that sometimes makes me uneasy. Just because….

I sometimes wonder why our definition of sexy…is what MEN think is sexy. Why do we want to act like women who are stimulating arousal for men, as opposed to being what we find naturally sexual and ‘womanly’? I put womanly in quotation marks because I don’t actually think our culture really knows what being a woman is. I think being a woman is generally defined in mens terms…it seems we are either irrational/emotional/butch/non sexual/angry feminists, or we are sexy/glamourgirl/big boobed/sex objects. I know that obviously this is because we live in a consumerist society and this is what we are reduced to, this is how the media portrays us etc etc. I’m sure men are put in this kind of position as well. But regardless I really hate it and I think because these kind of images are everywhere, even if you think you don’t adhere to the imagery…it can still affect you and shape your ideas and I think it’s dangerous.

I may not be making much sense here, but it is something I’ve been thinking about a lot, I just don’t quite know how to vocalise it coherently yet.

I don’t know, sometimes I get scared there MAY be a danger of women jumping on board the "reclaim the stripper" stuff because maybe while we think it will be empowering…it might be that we are simply re-affirming the imagery that to be sexy we must ‘pretend’ to be this mans ideal of a sexy/glamourgirl/sex object…as opposed to being sexy for the way we really are.

BUT I also think if we were ever going to celebrate what what a women really is, there is no better way than celebrating it through the fitness/endurance/agility/beauty/hotness/FUN/STRENGTH that pole dancing offers. And I also really love and find exciting the sexy, sultry side to pole dancing as well. And I don’t even dance for my bf…so ….it is purely for me and I do find it brilliant fun. Am I finding it fun because society has conditioned me to think this is fun? Maybe? Who knows? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

You only need to take one look at this forum though and see so many happy, empowered women, so I suppose the facts don’t lie. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I think most people try and get them in before the end of the month but no ones gonna yell at you if you’re late! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif It’s just for fun.
Go on to the video section of this site and click the green upload your video tab. And put something indicating that it is you jan challange in the title. I think thats it. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Oh lawdy my playlist expands every day, I love so many different genres of music and I’m always poling to new playlists depending on my mood.

I’m obsessed with Amanda Palmers solo stuff and her stuff with the Dresden dolls so dance to that a lot, even though its not particually "sexy" but its quite caberet/burlesquey so it works. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif I also love dancing to music that you would never expect poling to work with. I love dancing to piano music, yann tierson and debussy etc.
Today I danced to the Magnetic Fields…which was fun.
Sex beat – the gun club and f**k the people by the kills are awesome songs to get down to.
Errr…love french electro stuff like Justice and Vitalic, I love dancing to motown and soul, the beats are so sexy, and also I love dancing slowly to a lot of billie holiday or ella fitzgerald stuff.

Though I like hip hop I don’t tend to dance to it much.I really like j dilla, madlib and jehst but just don’t seem to end up adding those tracks to my playlist, I may try to do more of that.

I also love dancing to heavier stuff like nirvana, hole, rage against the machine, slipknot, TOOL, nine inch nails, pantera etc…I’m not really into that kinda music much anymore, but I used to love it, and it works well for poling.

Then for pure fun, love dancing to lady gaga, britney, all that good poppy stuff. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif

Hi there! Yay another uk lass! I’m from London but I went to Uni in Leeds and I was always popping over to Manc, I miss it! I’m a beginner too, I’ve just hit the 2 month mark, can’t wait to be able to do crazy stuff but I guess have to build up strength first. sigh.
Your job sounds amazing, I wanna have a pole in my work. Although I work in market research at the moment so you know, it might be a little out of place. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Edward is definitely a little girl. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Stealing lifesized posters from burger king?? Thats pretty disturbing, but whats even more disturbing is that I’m not even surprised, twilight fans, as amcut mentioned above, are crazy.
Sascha be careful with the whole "I may go to the movie again to have a good laugh" thing….that was how I got drawn in with the first movie! Then I wasted about a week reading all the books back to back (it only takes a week https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif )and get a scary gleeful feeling whenever I think about the next film being released. I can’t even help it anymore. It’s like I’ve been possessed by twilight mania or something. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif

my cousin forced me to go see New Moon…..WHAT was that WEIRD STUPID scene where bella and edward were just frollicking through the woods?? trapsing and running their merry little hearts out???? i haven’t read the books or seen any of the other movies….i guess i would have understood that scene better i guess…..
I went to go and see new moon voluntarily (I am secretly an 11 year old) and yeah that scene was completely ridiculous. The whole cinema burst out laughing though. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
It was so much fun though, me and my friend went on the day it was released (seriously not helping my cred here) and it was awesome just a crazy estrogen fest. The only guys there had blatantly been dragged along. And everytime Jacob took his top off the whole audience would cheer. At one point he got a standing ovation. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif
And at one point there was so much heckling and cheering that a security guard came in with a massive torch and yelled at everyone to quiet down.
Me and my friend were in hysterics like "Wtf…there CROWD CONTROL. for a FILM." https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

    But yeah. Loved it. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif
