I have a suggestion!
I am still relatively new so not sure whether this has already been discussed or whether people think its a good idea, but maybe there could be a section on the forum which is like a "everything else non pole related" section? I mean I know we have the blogs which are awesome and we can chat about other stuff apart from poling there and also chat which is fun, but I cant always make it to friday night chat cos of the time difference and I’d love to get to know some of the ladies here and just sorta blab to them about their day/music/ school/work/families whatever. just a suggestion. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif -

Thanks for kicking it, Veena, won’t happen again!
I don’t have a youtube account or such, so it won’t show up elsewhere. Sorryaww Tine you should get a youtube account! Its pretty simple, only takes a few minutes to set one up and I’d love to see your video! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Really wanna see Veenas strength video as well, hopefully that will be up soon! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif
Thanks for all the helpful comments, I just wanna make sure I’m doing everything correctly, don’t wanna end up hurting myself or with hulk like neck and shoulder muscles https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif -

I think I’m gonna use Veenas pole art one and Fleurs misguided ghosts. My mum loves arty things, I’m pretty sure those ones will sell it to her. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif That dance to Marilyn Manson is AMAZING btw. And woops I didnt realise there was a similar thread! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif Sorry!

Thank you so much Charley and Gsylass thats all really helpful!
And I guess an exercise to music qualification would mean you would be able to teach other things like aerobics etc?
I think what struck me about the couple of pole classes I’ve attended (and all the dance classes actually) is how inspiring and helpful the teachers always are. Maybe I’ve just been lucky but so far all the dance teachers I have encountered have been really vibrant amazing people. I’d love to be that to others someday.
Well I’d better get practicing…have a looong way to go. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif -
cool thanks…its so interesting. As I say I’ve only been to one or two lessons but found the teacher really inspiring, I’d love to do it someday.

Do you think its worth buying one of those "how to get started in the pole business" ebook thingies? I mean they might be a scam but they don’t look tooo expensive.
I’d just like to know…what sort of qualifications/insurance you need to have (surely there must be some sort of qualification process…or else how would people know you are good enough) and tips from people who have done it.
Find it very interesting. I suppose obviously people who have done it have done it off their own bat and dont particularly want to go about spreading all their success secrets https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif and of course I completely respect that. I’m not really looking to start a massive successful studio or anything. Just thinking it would be nice to teach some evening classes when I’m older and wiser. -

MemberNovember 6, 2009 at 1:41 pm in reply to: The family’s reaction (you’ll get a kick out of this!)Haha brilliant! I told my mum I was getting a pole in my room, and at first she just stared at me completely nonplussed and said "A…stripper pole??" doubtfully and I said "NO mum an exercise pole, its completely different! Its like…the…new yoga."
and then she was just completely fine with it. And recently my mums friend came round and she proudly referred to my "exercise pole". She loves all the spins I can do now as well…and wants me to teach her….(note…my mum is 63!!!) Hehehe. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif -
I used to dance, nothing major just an adult ballet class, and I managed to get my splits in about 2 months. Every morning I would do some form of excercise to warm up for about 20mins (even if it was just dancing like crazy around my room to music) Then I would do a set of about 10-12 stretches and hold each stretch for at least one minute. The stretches I would do would vary…there are really helpful sites all over the internet and youtube videos that detail different stretches exactly…Then I would attempt front split, right and left and middle splits, and hold them for one minute as well.
I did it in the morning for 15 minutes, then I would repeat it in the evening before I went to bed.
It WILL happen, I think thats the main thing to remember. It can be really discouraging when you feel like you arent progressing, but just stick at it. Also your body can sometimes do weird things, like one time I was really excited because I had almost got my right split the night before,I tried again in the morning and it was almost like I was right back to square one….i was about 2 foot off the ground! I just gave it a rest and stretced more in the evening. Don’t push it, just persist gently.
Sadly, even though I did get it, I didnt keep it up over my final exams, and now Im almost as unflexible as if I never
got them so I have to start aaallover again. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gifSo if you get them…KEEP THEM! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Good luck everyone! -
Thank you for the welcome everyone! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_smurf.gif
Hipshaker: where about in london you based?? I’m south east, its so funny because when you live in London you always thinkits a big enough city to be anonymous but I BET we share about one mutual friend on facebook/myspace or the like….the world is stupidly small sometimes it never actually ceases to surprise me.
poleophile: Paddington Bear DOES live at the tube station. He just keeps a low profile as hes so famous and all. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif The only place in Germany Ive ever been is Berlin but I really loved it there, such a cool city. Hehe studied under Derrida thats pretty amazing.
Sissybuns: Thank you my dear. I actually have posted a video, I did it this morning…its not very good, but I enjoyed it! sadly being a philosophy graduate hasnt led on to too many job oppertunities which leaves me with plenty of time at homewith my pole. And camera. So hopefully Ill improve.
Maddie28uk:Thanks hun! How long have you been dancing for?
