how strange…. i had a nightmare a night before I started my new classes. I turned up and all the poles were wobbly and I cudn’t do anything. I always like to think dreams mean something… wobbly poles must stand for something? hehe

    Hi Polekitten,

Firstly you are not alone with the superman being a nemesis move! It took me months, and I am still working on it. My problem was flipping my hips over, once I mastered that, as long as my grip was strong enough, I could adjust my legs to how I needed. I even found switching them round helped me, so the different leg was underneath. Also, my teacher showed me different ways of getting into it. I started from a side v then flippin over, I struggled with this way, so my teacher suggested doing it from a flatline scorpio so you can really bring your leg round. But i basically found practise makes perfect with this move, and your body will just ‘click’ one day!

As for your other issue… I had the EXACT same problem. I started with my first teacher and I really got on with her but the same thing… I got onto advanced tricks and she didn’t seem as confident teaching me these. Which isn’t reassuring for the student. She was lovely and was a brilliant teacher for beginners. But things like when I did an inverted V and i did not come down controlled and injured my back, but she said that i still did the move so marked me off for completing it. My point being… I did change schools and I was worried that it was not the right decision, but it was definitely the best decision for me. I do not think I would have been able to progress as well if I had stayed in my original class and I love my new teacher! At the end of the day safety should always come first and you really need a good, trusting relationship with your teacher.

Hope this helps a little, and did not bore you!!!

I was wondering if there is more information bout this competition. Me and my friend are thinking of spectating and was just curious as to where the event is held, so can plan accommodation and which airport to fly to. And when do tickets go on sale?

For me.. i try and pole minimum 3 times a week. This includes the hour class, and the one hour drop in class. I try and change what I do though, sometimes I will just focus on dancing and transitions; other days I will focus on practicing tricks and strengthening moves.

As for stretching, i try and do it whenever I can, even if its a quick 20 mins when lying on my bed. I try and do it daily, and just do light stretching on the days where I have not poled.

    Chemgoddess… what is Zumba?

oh wow, thank you guys so much!!!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

so david, have you always been able to do the splits? or did u have to practice doing them? Just because I have been trying for months at practicing doing the splits, and I am now worried I have gone back to square one? Obviously I have not tried doing them since I hurt my hip.

I’m really not a fan of Bob Cooleys lotus pose, on the wall or the floor. I don’t know why. Most stretches a LLOOVVEEEE doing. Just that one i don’t feel the same sought of satisfaction!! Most likely I am not doing it right.

And Veena, I am so gonna try the tennis ball massage, that sounds amazing!! And i would never of come up with that idea!

Also, I think this is the same problem, when I do a move like the CAR/CKR… or anything move where I have to cross my legs on the pole… sometimes my leg gets stuck and i kinda have to ‘pop it’ it when I am getting off. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

I have also noticed, saying if I am standing… this is with both my legs… if i raise my knee, then move it in a circular motion I can feel… and hear my hip click, or some sort of grinding sound. This is a different feeling to what i have now.

I think to conclude, I just have very dodgey hips and gonna try every ones suggestions cos really wanna get the splits (but i know not to rush)

After reading a book about flexibilty! (As i am not flexible at all). It gave really good advice, on making sure to really stretch opposing muscles. So I thought it was my hamstrings I needed to work on, but the book recommended that it was my tight quads restricting my hamstrings! if that makes sense! So i aallwwaays make sure I stretch both ways.

I find aswell, it isn’t my leg muscles that restrict me, its my hip flexors. And I am not a great fan of these stretches. (Think ive got dodgey hips, at the age of 24 https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif )

I think its good to stretch everyday if you can. This will help achieve the splits. I try to do it everyday, even if it is just for 15 mins or so. As I said, i am really far from the floor, and this is with my back leg bent. If I have them straight I might as well just be stood up.

But it will take a while, Ive been trying for 5 months, but I don’t always stretch (which is my downfall)

    GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_salut.gif

i rreeaallyyy wanna be able to do reverse sholder mount, cos that would be perfect. looks amazing! gonna keep trying.

And im gonna try climbing over my legs to get upright, was a thought I had. Just worried I could look a little funny if i got stuck. I will try it at home first! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Thanks for the advice!!!! ur stars!!!
