@pole bunny – Yes! Exactly! We all progress differently. Loving this.

@poleophile – This is the drama queen. http://www.triagedesign.co.uk/wikipole/index.php5?title=Image:Dramaqueen.jpg The advanced is when you fall from a sit (can do), uber advanced is when you fall from an invert and are upside down (won’t try! Lol). Love the apprentice! It’s a good transition into inverts. Name 2 more new ones. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_compress.gif

Butterfly into no-hands gemini is possibly my most fave transition. I taught my teacher and she loves it too.

It helps to keep your anchor/bottom arm locked. Whip your back leg around, rotate that hip close to the pole. hook as you release the other leg. Then fall back into your no-hands Gemini.

Sometimes you get more whip with an extended butterfly. But mostly pay attn to locked arm and close hip.

heathalynne, i think freethesun is right… do you mean to say scorpio? if you’re switching legs from a butterfly, you’re going into an inside leg hang/descending angel/scorpio. to go from a butterfly into a gemini, you would keep the same leg on the pole the entire time– you would just move your body to the outside of the pole, slide your top hand back down, and you’d be back in your gemini (reverse of going from gemini to butterfly).

I have no clue. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif so confused between Scorpio and Gemini. The leg hang on the pole is the opposite leg from when you were in the butterfly. In S terms, arch angel (butterfly) > corkscrew around > hook the opposite leg and fall into descending angel. It’s a transition going down the pole, not so much staying in one place.

The flatline Scorpio looks like the part between corkscrew and descending angel.

Anne and Steve, the two people in that YouTube video, are the ones who trained me. It’s from the Dara Torres DVD, which is great.
    Go stretchers go!!

So lucky they trained you! I have to say, those 2 simple stretches furthered my splits more than any other hamstring stretch… By far. Maybe it will be sooner than later. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

@Veena – Thanks! Happy to be here!

@Amy – Thats awesome you teach now. I’ve heard the most chit chat about b&p and crunch. What’s your say on both? Pros and cons. Any of the studios focus on dancing like S or mostly tricks?

I was speaking to Alethea at the Worlds in Zurich, she said that yes, although she did shoot stuff for a DVD ages ago, she wasn’t happy with it and the tricks are already out of date. She’s hoping to do another soon, I’m thinking it may be the sexy flexy one, but she’s kinda busy so we’ll see… I did her Sexy Flexy in Bristol a few months ago and it was brilliant, so much fun https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Out of date? HA! I’m still gawking at her old vids in the Poledancer app for iPad.

So was the stuff she shot ages ago the same as Sexy Flexy or different?

I would buy this DVD in a heartbeat.

Thanks Amy! Good to see you again. I feel like I was living in a bubble thinking all I needed was that one place. Been exploring more tricks and combos in and out of class, and now I’m feening for more. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_twisted.gif Feels good to be free!

I keep hearing whispers about B&P, crunch, shockra, etc. Makes me curious but i may try SV lessons first.

Thanks niccig! I found a great YouTube vid that showed me resistance stretching with the balancing quad lunges and medial ham stretches. I saw some improvement. Yay! Will look into more of these

Ottersocks recommended it and I’m SO glad because I’m also Ms Inflexible https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif and I could see an immediate improvement in my flexibility after doing the stretches. I can highly recommend the DVD called Resistance Stretching with Dara Torres, they explain all the stretches in detail and have a workout you can do at the end. It’s fab!!

Hope you will post a pic of you doing the splits soon https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Yes! Dara Torres’ youtube vid is the one I saw.

I’ll definitely consider her DVD now. Hope I’ll be able to post pics too… in a few months. Hahaha!

Oops. When you said uptown, for some reason I thought you were referring to New York. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif GNC is a vitamin/supplement store here in the states. I’m not sure if it’s international.

I’m a hopeless case with splits. My hip flexors are so tight, I’m beginning to think something is wrong with me. I’ve been trying for almost 4 years. Tried daily stretching for a few months and nothing. Been bikram/hot yoga 3x/week since the summer and that seems to be working somewhat. I’m deepening my lunges, stretching my hams, pulling my pigeons…. Still no splits but flexibility progress is there. Maybe in 10 years.

Bikram yoga or hot yoga work wonders for sore muscles. Other than that, it’s all about stretching properly before poling. Yoga and pole are closer than you’d imagine.

They have arnica gel at GNC in UES for $2 rather than the branded arnica gel for $7-10. Works the same for me.

Oddly I found the reversital microdermastick worked better and faster than arnica. It’s not even meant for bruises. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

You’ll learn control after a while and the bruises will lessen. Though there are bruises you can’t avoid like the inner thigh one after the allegra.
