I've only gone to one pole convention this past June.  It was an absolute blast!  However, I went to one workshop and the interest for most in the class was to learn something advanced.  Even though it was fun to meet and be in a class with Felix Cane, what she taught was way too advanced for most in the class.  The few advanced gals learned something which is good.

Also when I was trying to decide which workshop(s) to take, I emailed pole convention coordinator with same question about level because I'm not that advanced.  She also mentioned to me the pro's usually tend to teach their signature spin/trick that can fall on the advanced level.  So I didn't sign up for any.  The Felix Cane workshop was one of the free ones.  Read the description of workshops, hopefully it will give idea of level.

As far as sharing poles, at LA pole convention, the free workshops allowed many to attend, thus sharing, there were 3 to a pole at the one I went to.  The other paid workshops did have maximum for one person to a pole.  I don't know if all conventions do the same thing.  Usually the workshop description specifies how much space in a workshop.

That being said, it was a blast going with group of gals, meeting the pro's, taking pics and especially the showcases/performances!!  I would go again if I could.  I'm going to play it by ear about going to Vegas Expo.

Serzi, I totally understand what your concern is and seems like many others did too.  I also agree with others that pointed feet look nice and I strive for it, but in the process of working on things, doesn't always happen.  That's my level and pole journey. Just like your level and pole journey is yours, keep on doing what you are doing and have fun.

There have been many wonderful comments, but again because we are all on our own pole journeys, not everyone will be on the same page/thought process.  In my humble opinion, you don' t need to keep trying to explain and let this thread have taken its course.

Serzi, I understand your frustration.  I went to a studio close to me where the owner/instructor is big on poling in shoes.  I don't pole in shoes at all, my preference especially since I also am not a typical "pole dancer".  My second class she INSISTED I put shoes on (she had some in the studio), even though I strongly protested, she put me on the spot in front of everyone so I tried.  I took two steps and took them off, she just said in a frustrated tone "you are only about tricks" and walked away.  I never went back.  I drive 2 hrs one way quite often to a studio where I am happy to learn and be taught and corrected.

I hope this doesn't get off track about shoes, dance, etc.  It's about being put on the spot and put down. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

Beginning stages for me also now that I can do a decent flag…NEVER thought I would.  So need to strengthen flag hold and work on the abs and lifting butt up!  Maybe a year 🙂

I don't know if this is available where you live, but I've had success with Corn Husk lotion.  It's cheap and I've found it at Walmart, Walgreens & CVS http://www.walgreens.com/store/browse/overlays/large-product-view.jsp;jsessionid=I+HcaSoIbm0+Zt6LUz0wuQ**.p_dotcom813?skuId=sku6053799&id=prod6057966&vpd=true&overlay=true

At my pole class, the instructor told us about something that Natasha Wang told him about, we tried it and it has very good grip, maybe too much for spins, but I am not a spin person, so works for me.  It is also inexpensive, I found it at Sally's Beauty Supplyhttp://s7d3.scene7.com/is-viewers/flash/genericzoom.swf?serverUrl=http://s7d3.scene7.com/is/image/&image=SallyBeauty%2FSBS-147004

These are couple of things you might try for sweaty hands.  I surely understand your situation.  My poling is not very confident because of fear of losing grip with sweaty hands.

Oh, my bootcamp fitness is twice a week, with once a week private.  I stopped when I got horrible flu in January and will be starting privates again in April.

My schedule is usually:  Bootcamp class on Monday and Friday with private on Thursday.

Pole practice on Tuesday and Saturday or Sunday (or both).  Right now I'm taking a pole class on Saturdays which has helped tremendously in comparison to working on my own at home.

Then when I make time, do some strength workout at home on over-the-door pullup bar and ab work, which I really need!

I average twice a week with pole practice, sometimes three.  I do however take a bootcamp fitness workout class, as well as privates with a strength fitness trainer.  This has helped tremendously with stamina and strength to have better pole practices and accomplishments.I do neglect stretching and flexibility which hinders some pole tricks/accomplishments.

Yup, same here with split grip Aysha and Jackknife (pike).  I finally was able to accomplish it pretty consistently there for a while, BUT now it's like starting all over again.  For me, I know I'm over-thinking it.  Want to desperately get them back, it took me long time to get it.

Hi, welcome to pole and studioveena.  Please don't feel like you are not a poler because of what your goal is.  You described me EXACTLY!!  I pole for workout/strength/fitness as well.  I rarely work on spins, I would like to but am limited with space to be comfortable with them.  I do not work on transitions/floorwork either.  I have here and there, but it's just not me.  Spins, however, also help with strength and using core.

When I started, I had to work on building strength for each specific move/trick.  Before I found studioveena, I found youtube videos/tutorials that demonstrated how to begin.  Then here on sv as I began to learn something new, it took baby steps to work up to it.  When I went to a workshop or class at a studio and something new was taught, if I didn't have strength, I began working on it at home till I did.

THEN, about a year ago, began a bootcamp fitness program at a group location, as well as private training.  This really helped me develop strength for things I was working on and to improve.  It's workout things that could be done at home, but I'm just not diligent to put the challenging effort at home.  Plus the fitness training has equipment like climbing rope, bars, gym rings, etc to use that I don't have at home.

If you can get veena's online lessons, she has workouts to begin and how to progress in order.  Hopefully others can give you advice.

Gosh yes!  I struggle with consistency because of fear.  There are few things that I'm confident with, but for the most part a lot of what I've accomplished is still hit and miss.  I struggle a lot with Advanced Plank, I fell out of it once and if I don't feel I have good grip at the thighs, I bale and when I do have good leg grip, it takes me forever to get in position and let top hand go.  Cross Ankle Release is still very shakey.  I can get into split grip aysha & jackknife on good days, pole is not slippery and I mentally feel like I have good grip, but again bale a lot.

The one thing that would give me panic attacks is basic handstand.  Even trying to practice against the wall seriously freaked me out.  This has been for years.  I'm finally working on it starting out leaning against the wall.  I hope one day to be able to get basic handstand without leaning on wall for security.

I'm going to take veena's advice because I do over think things.  I've been told that often.  You are not alone, so just plug along and do your best.

@sparrow    I just watched LymeLyte's handstand/headstand video she posted.  I'm so jealous of hers!! 🙂  Is that how you do it?

@vickiezoo, handstand is driving me nuts, too.  I've been trying to get it off and on for YEARS!!!  I have that as one of my January Challenge goals.  I have part I and part II practices here on sv.  Just did another practice yesterday.  I start out against the wall but don't have hamstring flexibility to get hips stacked to body.  I'm supposed to be practicing it away from the wall, have done it twice in the last few months, but still have mental block to do it again.  One of these days!!!!!
