As far as strength, when I started pole over four years ago I was very active with regular gym workout, did interm step aerobics, an awesome powerflex weight class, etc. None of that made a difference with pole, it was as if I'd never worked out before. Pole was a whole different world and I had to start all over with strength building, etc. I couldn't do a pole hold or anything. I kept at it and strength came. I remember having the deer caught in the headlights look for new spin or trick LOL
The hardest thing to learn was taking my time to develop strength and not rush to do something I wasn't ready for. Thus, had to stop for a couple of months due to seriously pulled muscle in rib cage attempting basic invert by kicking into it. I actually thought I fractured a rib. I share this, not to scare you, but encourage not to rush, more importantly don't compare yourself to others.
Unfortunately pain is part of it as you and your skin get used to a new spin/hold/trick. I've accepted I may not get everything and doesn't matter what others are doing; and if I'm doing the same thing over and over, that's okay as long as I work at it getting better, etc. That being said, can't wait to see your journey and happy dance with you as you begin accomplishments 🙂

Will post clips soon to make sure I'm doing it correctly and for tips. I really, really like the veena grip. Just need to figure out how to do sm flip with it now.

So I'm going back to strength practice for it from the floor to get confidence back. I do like the veena grip for super shoulder mount as per veena's lesson here. Also to practice sm flip, which has been a "flop" for me LOL.

I tried oovoo with the gals from FB, but videos kept going blank and couldn't accomplish time together. So turned it off and practiced by myself. Are you going to be practicing Sunday?? It's already 5:30 PST, so your day is almost over.

hmm, is it a cable station? We don't have cable, so it would be our regular network Telemundo, wonder if it'll come on here our time? Cool of your mom.

I'm the say with too much online addiction already. I do have an account, don't even know what it is now LOL. I am also dense in the brain cuz I don't seem to understand it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif I hear people who love it, though.

Yes, it does get easier. The enjoyment for me is bitter sweet, it's the hardest workout I've ever done and I huff and puff. But when I'm done practicing I am on cloud nine with how much stronger I've gotten and still am getting, things accomplished I never thought possible.
Patience is the key, do not rush into things that still need strength, don't focus on what others are doing, etc. All things I had to learn as I began and still need to remember.
Welcome to the journey! 🙂 It is fun.

Thanks for the clarification, veena, I thought I had remembered something from while back, but couldn't remember the specifics.
@chumpchkin, there are so many good ideas, like yours, and it's hard to keep up with everything. BTW, saw your video, awesome 🙂

I often think about going back to check challenges in case I am ready (and willing LOL) to do a challenge I may not have felt ready for before.
Also, a footnote, I think a while back it was suggested to not use the word "challenge" in a thread topic for challenge ideas, etc. So that it won't be confusing for when veena actually posts a monthly challenge topic. When I see a title like this one, I immediately think it's the actual challenge post.
I hope I was not dreaming and that I saw the suggestion to not use "challenge" in thread title if it's not the actual challenge by veena. If I'm wrong, someone please let me know. Also v, let me know if I was dreaming 🙂

It's okay, you and veena have a lot going on right now. I was just wondering if it was my pc or the chat room. Wishing you the best during this transition for your family.

This is a neat idea, I hope to submit soon.

MemberMarch 30, 2012 at 7:42 pm in reply to: Help me studio girls!! Confused… what classes to take!?Also don't know if this should be here or another thread….I would not go to a studio that requires shoes. It's just my preference and do not feel comfortable in shoes and won't wear them. I went to a studio last year that encouraged heels, not just encouraged, but made me feel like an outcast because I don't wear shoes; I never went back.
I am trying a new studio that opened in my town recently. The instructor also always wears heels and so do the other students. I do not wear them and instructor seems to be okay with that, so that's good. The studio focuses a lot on dance, the sexy side of dance/floor/wall work and that's not me also. I'll finish the class package I bought then decide if I'll continue.
I also see that students learning to climb with shoes depend on them for grip. My friend did that and could not climb without shoes cuz she didn't develop upper body strength, mainly cuz the studio she was going to also was dance oriented. I guess a studio can "require" things and people just need to decide if it's for them or not.
