lolora, great event today!  You and everyone did an excellent job.  By the way, I am very, very impressed with your performance.  It was beautiful, I wish I could move my body like that.  AND your handstand to the pole was just stunning!!!!

Funny that we had met before at the first workshop with Shelly Lamb, that was fun also.  Thank you and the Twirly Girls for welcoming me into your pole family 🙂

Yes, I'm going 🙂  Have we met at Twirly Girls already?  I've been there a few times.  Was this event posted on the Events section of sv?  Make sure to let me know who you are in case I don't recognize you.  Any other veneers in the area?

My pet peeve about any type of class is starting on time!  If I make it a point to arrive on time and instructor is late, not ready, pokey, it ruins it for me.  I had this experience in a pole class and it was miserable for us students.

Also using class time to carry on conversations about other classes, what happened the other day, etc.  I don't like standing around time when the clock is ticking.  It's disrespectul to my time and money.

I agree with jenny, I have a weird schedule also, so varied schedule, drop ins, etc.

As far as lighting, depends on focus of the class.  If it's pole for fitness then regular lighting, music.  If it's for pole dance, sensual workout then dim.

That brings another thing to mind, some of us pole for fitness, others like pole dance focusing on floor work and sensual moves.  I look for studios that focus on fitness, workout, pole work.  If a studio has both, a different schedule for different type of class.  Again, if I put out money and time, I personally prefer pole workout and lessons.

This also means instructor is there for students, not to have their personal time and "perform."  This is all part of professionalism.

I don't mean to sound petty; however, again we pay $$ and sometimes drive a distance and would like it to not be a waste.  I hope this helps.

I'm hoping to go, hopefully other veneers could go.  Bel and Twirly Girls are awesome.  It's a fun studio.

Just wanted to clarify; there are A LOT of things I've accomplished with veena's lessons.  I also use them more than dvd's I've bought, in fact haven't used dvd lesson in a long time.  I wouldn't be where I am today without veena's lessons.  The classes I take are few and far between because studios are few hours away.  And yes, this site is way more addicting that FB, I love our veneers!

I went through same thing looking for something decent for recording practices.  I finally ended up with Panasonic DMC-ZS6.  Another thing for me was I have an old desktop and when I got new laptop for Christmas it made big difference in quality.  My desktop was too old to handle good video quality.  When I was looking many veneers gave good suggestions for what they use.  I ended up buying 3-4 different cameras, flip camcorders, camcorder and returned 🙂  Thank goodness for Costco's return policy.  I felt badly but they kept telling me that's what the return policy is for.  I even have some sample videos with some I tried and returned.  I hope you find something that works for you.

Welcome!! As mentioned, everyone is different as far as learning.  I've done the studio till our local one closed, take classes/workshops when I can cuz they are hours away.  I take veena's lessons here and love them.  Everyone is so help, supportive and fun here.  I do like when I go to classes to learn something new, someone is close by to support me and gives me confidence to try at home.  Although there are a few things I've started learning at home using veena's lessons.  I usually also have my husband close by if I'm unsure 🙂  Again, welcome.

@LoneStar, love your response for menopausal crowd!  Now that you mention it, I'm glad for it also cuz I don't get sore boobs anymore, can't imagine inverting, etc with full, sore boobs, haha  Speaking of pole pain, I remember hopping off in sheer pain between thighs when learning the Superman, then Shoulder Mount was horrible.  There were other painful sweet spots, bruises, but these two moves are most memorable 🙂

vamp, I'm not an expert, but I was in the same boat years ago.  My husband is the one who encouraged me to begin weight training to build muscle tone.  I found running and step built up my legs, but not rest of the body.  I had an awesome power flex instructor who worked EVERYTHING and mixed it up.  I put on about 4-5 lbs muscle weight and toned up.  I loved it and was SOOOO disappointed when instructor had to drop classes.  That was about three years ago and I am STILL bummed, he is an awesome power flex instructor.

Now that I'm poling, my strength has gotten better since poling involves lifting, holding, using the whole body weight, but I find I neglect working my legs, thighs, and working on toning abs.

People think because we are thin there's nothing to tone, but I do 🙁  Sometimes my vids show the mid section and it drives me nuts https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif.  A lot of people told me I was doing too much cardio years ago and for me, they were right.  Weight toning worked and glad that and poling does get my heart rate up.

I hope you find what works for you.  And that others can give you some insight here.

http://www.mikayogawear.com/products.php  The Lucia and Mikaela are popular, don't know if these are the ones you are referring to.  Amber Richard, 2009 USPDF West 1st place, loves them, as well as other competitors/polers.

http://www.sweetvixencouture.com/catalog/item/8078536/8712968.htm  I haven't tried these yet.  There are other styles.

I can't help re nutrition but understand not wanting to lose weight.  What kind of cardio are you doing?  Years ago I did a lot of cardio with Int/Adv Step Aerobics & loved it.  Finally realized I needed weight bearing to build muscle, so switched to power flex weight class and did step once a week.  It was much better for me to build muscle weight, plus the instructor was so good we still got our heart rate up.  Pole is all I do now.  What I don't want is the hormonal buldge in the mid section 🙂

I'm sure others here can help more with diet, nutrition, weight, etc.  I can benefit from healthy calories, I tend to be a junk eater, shhh don't tell anyone 🙂

I have 3 pair of pole skivvies and love them.  I do want to try her new butterfly pole shorts.  I recently bought her Gemini pole bra and love it.  I want to try some of veena's shorts here also, just haven't gotten around to it.

Is it the bottom load?  Do you have picture of it?  Just curious, I've been really considering a 45mm.  Oh, what finish is it?
