I am happy for all you getting together! Forget the fact that I will be home having a "pity party" https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif There is a studio few hours away I hope to ask if we could do something like this for veneers in the surrounding area. In fact, going to call them right now, hopefully https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_exclaim.gif

@sarahb, I thought the same thing. When I did search for 1955 (ugh!) I got a bunch of songs that were later like in early 60's. The ones in my year were awful. I barely got over getting March Challenge, don't know if my brain can take working on another one 🙂 It'll be fun watching other veneers.

Agh, another age-related one 🙂 This really puts my "menopausal" brain and body to the test. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif Like lonestardiva said, thus the challenge.

OMG, talk about mangled mess 🙂 When I was learning Superman (took me at least a year!) I'd get so mangled on the pole, my hubby would have to come and peel me off the pole, really!! One time I got so tied up, he wasn't around, I just had to plop myself to the ground, ouch! It all comes together before you know it. Still working on things and getting tangled 🙂 I still can't do the Pole Hold Spin 🙁

Welcome!! I am one of those in the 50's 🙂 I'm 55 and started at 52 "just for fun." It's been three years and I'm still going. It is so much fun, even through the difficulty, sore muschles, bruising, no flexiblity, etc. Whatever level I am and/or will reach will be good enough for me, since I never considered that I could accomplish anything at all. You will find great encouragement, support and the most fun veneers here!

Thanks for the idea, will have to start looking around my area.

Let's do it soon. Maybe in 2-3 weeks? I am not able to attend open pole, I think it's only weeknights. On Saturday Beginner class @ 12:30 pm and Intermediate @ 2:00 p.m. Let's keep in touch and see what we can work out. Honestly in next couple of weeks. In the meantime I'll contact studio and get more info. I think there are other veneers in the area.
@tinydynamics, have you taken any classes before or will this be your first time?

Those of you who use the puzzle mats…I have an xpole, did you cut anything so it will fit around the pole, or just push mats up around it? Thanks.

MemberMarch 27, 2011 at 6:30 pm in reply to: Help! Just got my new X-pole & my fat-ass can’t use it!A lot of us started out feeling like "no way" can I pull myself up or hold my body; no matter what size or weight. Even though many came from some type of exercise, weight classes, etc. dealing with one's own body weight is different than 5-8 lb weight repetitions. I started pole thinking I was "fit" uh-no 🙂 Had to start all over not even being able to hold the pole and lift feet off the ground for 1 second pole hold. Strength does come when we least expect it. I've been at it three years and just feeling like more strength to move on. Remember, some things on pole come faster than others, we are all mix and match with accomplishments. Have fun and you've come to the right place for that, as well as support and encouragement. Welcome!!!

@Peachpop…great thread. Nice way to get to know each other. I like threads like this instead of ones that are matter of opnions that can get touchy and/or hurt feelings. 🙂
Three years ago I received a course catalog in the mail from a local adult school. Much to my surprise they had a 4 wk intro pole fitness class. I'd heard of pole fitness and really wanted to try for fun & short-term. I asked a friend to go and we were SO excited. Needless to say she never showed up, everytime the door would open I'd look to see if it was her, not 🙁 Anyway I stayed and after two weeks the instructor asked if anyone planned on continuing after the intro course, up flew my hand!!! I LOVED it I was 52 yrs old at the time and thought "what the heck am I doing!" But it was so much fun, Everytime instructor would show us what we were going to learn, I'd crack up and think "yeah RIGHT" But lo and behold I'd accomplish it.
After a month I bought my first Lyl Mynx pole, went to regular class and to open pole practice another day. Unfortunately after a few months of my beginning, the studio closed down and I thought "now what." I was so disappointed. I looked up videos on youtube and tried to learn with that. I found a studio 1-2 hours away and went to workshops when I could. FINALLY found studioveena and am in heaven 🙂 I have veena's lessons, bought a new TG xpole which has made a world of difference for me.
I attend a wonderful studio few hours away when I can; attend workshops which help to improve and/or learn something new, as well as meet other polers. I've taken workshops and a private with Amber Richards and a workshop with Shelly Lamb (2nd place USPDF Nov 2010). Now this makes it sound like I'm up there in pole skills, not really, but for me I've accomplished more than I ever dreamed of (like sm, NEVER thought it was possible)
I've always been active with some sort of fitness, this is the most difficult, yet rewarding and fun. This is the only workout that I look forward to practice at home. The strength developed is different than when I did powerflex at the gym with 5-8 lbs weights or 15 lb weight bar. My husband loves that it's great strength training for me having to lift and hold my own body weight. He's very involved with my pole venture which makes it more fun.
Thanks to all the veneers who make this journey fun and rewarding. Thanks to veena and webmaster for all their hard work and support.
