Hey there HookedOnPole — New Veener (Veenite?) here. Right now, the owner of my pole studio (Sacramento Pole Dance Studio – https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif ) is coordinating a "field trip" from Sacramento to the USPDF WC Regional with a buncha ladies. I’m planning on going, maybe stay Saturday night / Sunday afternoon (11.6 – 11.7) and take a workshop with either Jenyne or Alethea on Sunday. The way the seating is set up, it looks like it’s all reserved seating ($45/2nd tier(???), $65/1st tier, $85/at the door(!!!)) but I can’t tell from the Fox Theater website how the venue’s going to be set up. Will 2nd tier have trouble seeing the stage? Is 1st tier dead center, right against the stage? And Lisa (studio owner) is leaning towards a group of 2nd tier tickets to keep costs manageable. I really don’t care — I’m just going. I’d love to meet up with you down there, even if we can’t sit together it’d be nice to meet another StudioVenutian ( https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cyclops.gif ) and talk pole. What fun!

I am hoping to take a workshop also. I am also looking at Friday with jenyne or Sunday with Amber or Jenyne. How far are you from Redwood City? I’m 3-4 hours away. I keep checking the workshops to see how they are filling up.

OMG, I can only speak for myself and how I started. I went for fun to an introductory class and knew I wanted to continue. After the introductory class, when she showed us what we were going to learn, I literally would crack up!! She said we all had the "deer caught in headlights" look. Every new thing, I felt like ‘yah-right’? But I was able to accomplish, not everything we were supposed to, but I got what worked for me. I started at 53 yrs old, by the way. After studio closed I self-taught myself from youtube, then THANKFULLY found studioveena. The help here and her online lessons have been a lifesaver for my pole experience. I also take workshops when I can.

I also felt everyone was so good and naturals when I started here, but as someone said we are all levels, etc. I am learning slowly and use pole for fitness/strength, not so much dance part of it. It’s just what works for me. So as others have said, have fun, work at your own pace and be safe. I injured myself attemtping kicking into inverts before I knew proper way as taught here. Veena’s lessons are in order, and I still skip some because I just don’t feel ready to attempt.

Enjoy and keep us posted!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumleft.gif

I’m going to go out on a limb here and mean no disrespect at all. I hope this is received in the loving way it is intended. I am "old school" as it relates to my marriage. I absolutely understand that there is nothing wrong with poling, I NEVER thought it’d be something I do. I understand the stigma that comes with it which we work hard at breaking it down.

As I said, I am old school and can understand your husband’s concern. I totally understand it’s poling with friends. I feel, we as wives, should be careful with going too far not only with poling, but with any hobby, the same for men and their hobbies. MANY years ago I played soccer, first co-ed then women’s league. I started seasonally, then a tournament here and there and before I knew it, I was engaging in it every opportunity (and I’m not even that good). All my husband said is, "How far is this going to go?" I realized I was over-doing it because it wasn’t necessary, I was playing enough to have "me" time. Same for my hubby, he was an avid fisherman and everytime I turned around, he was walking out the door, fishing poles and equipment in hand. He realized he was over doing it and cut back.

With poling, it’s absolutely so much fun and I take opportunities to participate as much as I can. However, I personally, FOR ME, would think twice if I were invited to pole at a bar or setting that would project something other than what we intend. This not only goes for pole, but any invitation by friends that would be questionable for me and my marriage. For some polers, it’s not an issue, but when it’s a concern for a husband, some thought should be taken.

Sounds like you attend a studio, and maybe able to pole with others in your area. And sounds like he supports that. I’d kindly encourage you to put love of pole aside and consider your hubby’s concern. My husband and I have a decision to build a hedge around our marriage and glad we have.

Again, I know I’m probably not the norm with this thought, however, I send with kindness and for consideration. Please no one be mad at me. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pale.gif

I’ve never experienced this, however, there are other polers who have been at it longer and more advanced, so maybe they have some insight. Out of curiousity, what kind of pole did this happen on?

I have super sweaty hands usually, and have to wipe down the pole and myself frequently during practices. When I performed, I used grip aide.. and lots of it! I recommend using a little on your hands and and maybe give the pole a light dusting, if possible. I also used a little on the backs of my knees as well. It definitely helped. Also, for me, the adrenaline of performing in front of an audience gave a little extra grip power as well.

Just curious, which grip aide did/do you use? Thanks. I’m a beg/int poler, however, struggle with sweaty hands to practice and learn new stuff.

What state do you live in? I’m in California and it took mine 2 working days. Order was placed on Thursday and I received it Monday morning. That was awesome, however had to wait till weekend to put it up due to our work schedules https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif If you live in another state more than likely few more days. You ordered chrome, huh. Let me know how you like it when you get to practice on it. Once order was placed with xpole, I received shipping notification with fedex tracking number. Mine was bday gift also which is Oct 22, hubby gave me $$ to order by TG early. Don’t we have great hubbys!!

EDIT: I believe House of Pole has to send order to xpole for shipping process to begin, once that is done it goes quickly.

I just placed an order with HOP and received pole. Fortunately, I received very good service and communication with her throughout the whole process. There was a "short" time frame where she could not be reached by me or xpole; however, she was traveling at the time and did not have reception via airport, etc. I hope you can get your order taken care of. Being nosey, did you order a pole and if so, what kind? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_question.gif
EDIT: Oops, just saw your post and what you ordered. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif

I double ditto the above. When I started couple years ago, we had 4 weeks of each "level." By level 2 we were inverting as a class. I was okay with starting from the ground, then squating, then bent knees, although still by kicking up. I was encouraged to stand straight and do it. I had my own pole by then and even though I didn’t feel ready, made many attempts; this resulted in pulling muscles in rib cage so badly I could not move/even breathe. I heard/felt a pop and just lay there. I thought I fractured a rib. I let it go for few weeks thinking it would get better, then went to doctor. I had inflamed muscle so bad and got medication. I could not pole for about 2-3 months. I realized then I would pay attention to my body, I hope I’m doing that https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif I love the progression of veena’s lessons, I still even skip some if I don’t feel ready and back track a lot.

stardust, Lil Mynx is stainless steel, which is my first pole since 2 years. I hate to be whiny about my TG, it’s just so different. I’ll give it more time, maybe I expected too much. I was going to sell my lil mynx, but think I will hang on to it. Maybe I’ll be a poler who has two poles, haha However, after using TG and then putting my ss back up to practice on it again, I need to decide keeping the TG if I don’t feel I’ll be using it as much. Time will tell https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pale.gif
