Welcome to the boards! I think you’ll really enjoy Veena’s lessons; I just purchased them recently as well and while I’ve only had the time to look at a few of them, they are very nicely set up and easy to understand.
You’re not alone in having sweaty hands; I suffer from them too, and they are a major pain. Here’s a thread that was started recently on the same problem that might give you a few ideas of where to start:

Also, if you search these boards, there are several other topics on sweaty hands. Hopefully you’ll get some good ideas from them. It’s just a matter of trial and error and finding out what works for you personally.

Thanks for the input; I’m kind of leaning toward those ones anyway. I would like some slip, just because I’d still like to be able to slide down while my hands are on the pole and still be able to spin and whatnot, I just don’t want the current Vaseline-like mess I’ve got going on. KInda’ makes it hard to get through a whole song when you’re sliding all over the place a minute or two into your dance! Also, my pole doesn’t have spinny mode, so I probably would be better off with the non-tacky ones.
Do you use any other types of gloves? Would you recommend the Mighty Grip over those, or do you feel that there’s a better option out there?

MemberMarch 30, 2010 at 7:15 pm in reply to: Tear in Tendon in Hamstring/scar tissue issueI’m sorry to hear that; I haven’t had any type of injury like that before, but my advice would be to proceed very carefully and go easy. I know it’s hard, especially when you were looking forward to competitions, but you really don’t want to push this; you could end up making it worse in the long run and then it will take you even longer to heal, which obviously you don’t want.
If you feel like you need a second opinion, then I would go get one. That way you can be confident in your diagnosis and have as much knowledge on hand as you can to heal quickly and efficiently and get back to your training.

Welcome! I’m from Washington myself, but I’m sure you’ll run into someone from AZ soon enough.

If anyone else is looking for sexy shoes, I found this site: http://www.thevividroom.com
They have a ton of Pleasers, as well as Ellie, Demonia, and several other brands, everything from boots to stripper heels, and they’ve got some really good deals.

Horsecrazy – I bought them off snaz75.com. They’re 8.5" heels, I believe they are the first ones listed under the 8" category on the site.
Thanks! I was browsing around that site just the other day–they’ve got some nice stuff.

That’s awesome! It’s definitely taking some time, but there seems to be a general turning of the tide in regards to people’s feelings about pole dancing.

Welcome! You’ll do just fine; I’ve seen several ladies that are a little on the bigger side who are beautiful pole dancers. I think most people here will probably tell you to go with X-pole, but as I don’t own one, I can’t give you a personal recommendation, so I’ll let someone else chime in with all the reasons why they love it.

Welcome! I bet you’ll do really well with pole dancing with your background.

Journey gave you a lot of good advice. I don’t have a lot of experience with gloves yet, but I’m starting to try them out because I get pretty sweaty too when I pole. That in combination with a pole that is kind of slippery on its own (stainless steel, plus the weather here is still pretty cold sometimes,) I have some major grip issues. I don’t think I actually have hydrosis, but I’ve always been really sweaty when I work out–I noticed recently when I started bringing my boyfriend to the gym with me that he and I could work out at about the same intensity for the same length of time, and he’d be a little damp while I’d have this nuclear reactor glow going on. So it’s definitely been a bump in the road along my pole dancing journey.
I would recommend trying a bunch of different grip aids first; you never know, you might find one that works really well for you. I will caution you though that I at least seem to sweat through a lot of them pretty quickly–usually before a routine is over, so within about five minutes or so. I’ve tried liquid chalk, Grrrip, Dry Hands, No Sweat, Prince, and several different spray-on anti-perspirants as well as continuously soaking my hands in rubbing alcohol, which just ends up drying out my already parched knuckles even more and eventually leads to painful splitting. So far none of them have impressed me all that much. Liquid chalk seems to be the best, but I can’t spin with it on, and it rubs/sweats off very quickly, so I have to be really careful when I’m dancing with it on–for instance, I can’t really walk much around the pole, because the friction between the pole and my palm wears it off quickly, and when I do floorwork I have to be careful not to drag my hands along the floor. But you and I are not the same person, and while I’ve gone through several grip aids, I haven’t tried every single one on the market, and there might be something out there that works for you.
I think I’m going to give the Mighty Gloves a go next, even if you can’t spin in them. There are some static holds I want to brush up on, but it’s hard to do that when I have such a hard time with my grip; I’m afraid I’ll slip and it will lead to an injury.
Anyway, good luck with whatever you try. I know what a pain in the ass sweaty hands can be, but it’s not the end of the road for you; it’s just a matter of finding what works for you.
