Anytime something like this happens to either a professional pole dancer or a stripper, there is all kinds of nastiness from the idiots who populate in droves You Tube and the internet in general. Apparently if your choice of career involves holding a metal pole between your legs and/or taking off your clothes, you are disqualified from the human race. Silly me–never realized this before.

If you can afford both, then do both, as long as the studio you have access to uses safe teaching methods. Like Veena said earlier, anyone can just open a studio and call themselves a pole instructor.
The closest pole studio to me is a three hour drive (one way) which obviously is just not doable, so I use Veena's lessons. I would like to attend to a studio for the socialization factor, but honestly, Veena's lessons are the best I have seen so far out of any DVD or other online lessons available. I've taken other online lessons that were good, but still left me struggling with a few moves. However, once watching Veena's videos on those same moves, I usually was able to do them within just a few tries. She breaks everything down extremely well, and for the amount of information you get and how profesionally everything is presented, they are almost ridiculously cheap.

I always hear good things about the tape method. I personally have not yet tried this, but I need to. When I'm practicing stuff I always dance barefoot, but I love putting on shoes when I'm doing something sexy, and carpet definitely does cause some less-than-graceful sticking occasionally.

Hope you find someone to practice with! It's always nice to have a workout buddy.

MemberFebruary 20, 2012 at 12:34 pm in reply to: Dealing With A Titanium Pole In WinterHmm–the pot of boiling water at the base of the pole is an interesting idea. Oh, the stuff we come up with to beat the cold weather!
I've heard people mention before that taking a really hot shower prior to poling helps a lot, and you know, actually back when I still had my SS, I came out after a hot bath one night and managed to get a couple of combos and spins in before the slipping started, which never would have happened before because my pole room was absolutely freezing and the SS was a slip n' slide. I didn't really make the connection until I saw it mentioned here, so I'm going to have to give that a go next time I pole.

I just love the 45, honestly. If you don't plan on competing, then really, you don't need to use a 50. If you do, it's something you'll need to adapt to because that's the standard size, but if you're just a home or studio poler, what's the harm in just going with whatever works for your tiny hands? I have long fingers but fairly small, girly hands overall, and there was a gap on the 50 for me as well. I like the added security of being able to wrap my fingers all the way around the 45.

'My legs/thighs don't have a lot of meat though…maybe that's another reason why it's taking me longer to get used to gripping the 45.'
There's actually probably something to this. I have pretty muscular thighs for a petite girl, and like I said, I didn't have a problem transitioning. And I love the 45 for hand grips; I love the butterfly, but due to a combination of sweaty hands and a slippery SS pole, it was always a move I could only do on a day when the pole was really warmed up, with gloves on, and then I'd overgrip like a terrified newb even after a year of poling. On my 45 TG, it feels like I could just stay there forever.

Yep, suddenly those little screws popped right in. I'd completely forgotten that. It was a good refresher for my brain at least, since I hadn't messed with the pole in a while.

You know what–never mind. Remembered what I needed to line it up with. D'oh!

Yup–lined them up, to no avail. Although, actually I think I mis-typed–they are the screws right above the adjuster rod.
