Comps, to me, should be more like those you find in dance, skate or gymnastics, with more formal requirements, scoring and judging.
for artistry and sheer enjoyment of the sport – showcases that are not judged.
to me, that kind of sums up the whole thing. just like in the dance world — there are many studios out there who do nothing with their companies but compete, and whose entire curriculum is devoted to tricks and technique for that purpose. then there are other studios who’s companies are focused on entertainment only.
makes sense to me !

accountable judging ! yes !!!! but before the judging can become levelled and accountable, shouldn’t there be some sort of universal points system put in place ?

Where did you buy your poles? The studio I go to also has Platinum Stages and has had nothing but problems (one of her poles actually broke in half….yeah, you heard me right). It took her over 4 months for customer service to do anything about it and they were rude during the entire process.
stories like these are exactly why we chose poledanzer. the guy is just a sweetheart ! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Where did you buy your poles?our studio has permanent brass static and spin which we ordered from http://www.poledanzer.com. reason we chose them is for their service. they custom make the poles, and are just great with customer service. the guy there isn’t a particularly smooth sales-type guy, but he makes the poles and knows his stuff. he was just terrific with service.

@jayjay125 How did you get free shipping from yoga direct?
y’know what ? i dunno ! it must have been a promo on at the time. i just went back in and looked — now to ship 2 mats it will cost me $22.00 (which is still VERY reasonable for me). maybe call them and ask if they have any promotions going on with free shipping ?

fyi, we recently got a great 5" pole mat from http://www.yogadirect.com. if you enter ‘pole mat’ in the search, it will bring you to the pole crash mats. i am very, very pleased with ours. price was $249.00 USD, plus free shipping. will be ordering another 2 shortly…

i still don’t mind the idea of online voting in certain circumstances. it is unfortunate that this event came off with appearing to have a boatload of technical trouble https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif
given that this is what happened, how can anybody REALLY know who had the most votes ? hmmmmm again https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

Where are the 12 finalists listed? I’m not finding it.
uspdf says the 12 will be listed soon…..
-
hooooooo doggies ! now this is gonna get a weeeeee bit more interesting, i think…..
not sayin i have all the details, but if i look at things as they are right now, the uspdf site shows voting closed with alicia’s video getting over 52% of the vote. however, shelly is the 12th finalist… don’t get me wrong — i don’t begrudge shelly her spot one bit !! i just don’t know how the math added up. if there were other criteria used besides the online vote, i didn’t see it published anywhere….
things that make me go hmmmmmmmmm https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

awesome ! now…. if i could just get em to print my studio’s logo…. (go to http://www.thegirlspotct.com if you are curious… )
well done, webby !!!!

so much food for thought here… personally, i kind of like the fact that uspdf chose 3 finalists from whom the public could choose the 12th. i find it fun. and you know what? even if it IS somewhat a popularity contest at this stage, so what ? all 3 of those girls have something special to offer !
and while an open discussion here about the idea of online voting is a great idea, i have to say i didn’t feel good about the tone of some of the statements. yes, let’s talk about this stuff. yes, let’s have preferences. it’s all ok so long as we’re keeping in mind that sometimes when we write something, it can come across harsh, whereas if it was spoken, the message might sound completely different.
i didn’t particularly feel anyone was being bashed, but then again, if i were reading a community forum and KNEW i was being referred to, only not by name, i might feel a bit defensive about it…
i dunno girls….. i just want us all to play nice together !
